I love this house! It's so Southern on the outside, at least what I call Southern anyway, kitchen was amazing looking, a lot of design went into that. The stairs are so cool too.
You may have figured it out by now, but those jacks upstairs in the sitting room appear to be part of a Home Theatre set-up. Possibly plugs for the different speakers, front, back, right, left tweeter, sub and so on. That was a big thing a few years ago, don't hear much about it anymore with all inclusive Surround Bar systems, but this was a way to connect it all and hide the wires. Just a guess, but that's my first and quick thought from what you've shown. Maybe the cable or satellite system hook up also, or could be both. I wouldn't be surprised to know that that room was once a home theatre room. Bigger TV, the theatre type chairs.... But once again, just a guess.
Okay Julie is correct the closet was set-up for the stacking washer and dryer, just had to move and install one from my mothers to my sisters home a few months ago. But WOW!! A two in one washer dryer?? I had no idea those even existed! But what if you have multiple loads to wash? Wouldn't it take twice as long? Very interesting!!
Love the master bath, those are my favorite types of showers, although it's missing the handheld Shower head which I have to have...😁 and it's so big too!! Not a fan of the Bowl Basins, but I know a lot of people like and request those, I've never actually used them, so maybe they are better. The height difference, water level to countertop, is what I don't think I'd like. LOL But it does fit and look good in your bathroom though.
The little door at the end, at first was really creepy, I wondered if this was a "Timeout" room for kids maybe???? And that is a fly trap by the way. I saw that same door on the other side of the room too didn't I? Maybe it's just simple attic storage and they put extra chairs in there? Guessing attic but ???? Okay, yeah attic storage, thanks for both views. LOL Fly traps in there as well.
Can't say we have much experience with Airbnb's, yeah we've stayed in them for several years, but always the same home. LOL But you'd think they'd have some sort of cleaning service that cleans before someone moves in. That happens at the home we stay in. We arrived while they were cleaning last year due to a miscommunication from the owner to the cleaners. We just waited, was no big deal, we arrived on the correct day the cleaners were given the wrong day. Just surprised you need to clean your new "home" after you move in. Wishing you both luck there and of course let us know about the downstairs whenever you find out. LOL

Hi Mustang!! It's a cute house, isn't it? We have been saying every day since we moved in that we love it so much, we wish we could buy it! It's around 90 years old, I just love the charm & smell of an older house! Michael's more into the modern conveniences though, so we definitely won't be buying this one HAHA! It's also not for sale, even if it was, the Charlotte housing market is insanely expensive. I just love it though. It's so spacious and open, which is rare for a house this old. The stairs are just beautiful!
You're probably right about the upstairs being a theater room once upon a time. That's such a big area of space that's essentially wasted now. We didn't even consider that possibility. I know Mustang would come to the rescue!!! hehe. Kind of surprised now that I think about it that we didn't figure that out, although neither one of us have ever had anything that fancy in our home TV set up, and we aren't really big enough movie buffs to need something that fancy. We're more TH-cam people, and more often than not just watch our own TH-cam with headphones haha. GOOD GUESS though, I knew you would know what that was for! Kind of a tacky eyesore now adays though, right?
Now that we've had a few days to mess with this 2-in-1 washer/dryer combo, we can report back to you that this is a TERRIBLE idea. I've been saying all my life, someone needs to invent a washer/dryer combo to save the work of having to throw clothes over and reset everything, so you can just go off and leave your laundry washing and not worry about it mildewing, etc. Neither one of us knew this thing had already been invented!! But wow do we really hate it though LOL. Maybe we just haven't figured out how to use it, but number 1, it takes literal HOURS to get just one load washed and dried, so we are almost handicapped here to only doing one load per day, which is fine if we plan ahead for that! Also sometimes the dryer function doesn't come anywhere near getting the clothes dry, yesterday I left them on a dry cycle while I was out of the house for hours, and came home to water standing in the machine! It's very complicated, Michael doesn't care for it either. I will take a regular washer/dryer whenever we settle down somewhere any day over this HAHA.
We say every day, if we did buy this house, the upstairs bathroom/washer/dryer system would be the first thing we would Reno. Our upstairs bathroom is probably bigger than our whole bedroom was in Colombia, so it's senseless not to have a tub in there! I agree with you about the sinks. They are beautiful to look at, but stuff gets lost all around the nooks & crannies behind them. I'd prefer a more traditional porcelain sink.
We were so creeped out by the attic, we've never opened that door again! We try to forget it exists LOL.
We should not have had to clean as per Airbnb guidelines, because the previous people would have paid a cleaning fee on their check out day just like we will have to pay when we check out. However, this isn't something that Airbnb monitors, and is kind of up to the landlord, he can more or less pocket that money and skip cleaning altogether, or give it a lick & a promise, etc. Ours happened to say he hires his MOTHER to clean his Airbnb's, and he said she is a little ditzy/spacey sometimes, and she must have forgotten to clean "half the house." We had a good laugh about that because it seemed like she hadn't cleaned anything. The floors weren't vacuumed, there were dust bunnies everywhere, and both bathrooms were not fit to be used. But we just bought the stuff and cleaned it ourselves. We might mention that in the review, but I mean, life happens, who knows what his situation is/was. We had the time to do it so we just did it ourselves. It didn't make me love this house any less! :)

Hi Julie!!! Wow we're writing books again aren't we? LOVE it! 🥰 I'm kind of like a mixture of the two of you when it comes to homes, I really like the modern look and feel of the new places, especially since that's my back ground designing new places, but really appreciate the older type homes and the "smell" of them as well. While the exterior of your home isn't exactly "old" looking, it isn't new looking either, the inside is more of the modern look though. Kind of like the mixture that I like.
That was just a guess about the outlet and that room. Back in the day we called those little rooms off of the master bedroom, sitting rooms. The age of the home could mean that's what it was originally. Not really something you could turn into an office or den, but home theatre, I could see that. if you were to buy the place would be very easy to cover up and make it disappear too. I'd guess there is no power in those "plugs", very easy to check, so take off cover, stuff them all inside the wall and cover with a blank or even drywall patch, paint and it's gone. 🙂
Yeah I agree about the washer combo. Interesting when you first said it I thought, but then I started really thinking about it. Reminded me of the front loading washer and dryer when they became popular years ago. Kinda cool but what if??? I know a few people that now hate their front loading washers. We replaced our washer and dryer last year I think, didn't see anything like this back then, I can see advantages, but far more disadvantages as you're already finding out. Hope it doesn't cause you too many problems.
To me it just seems like cleaning of these airbnb homes would be a priority much like housekeeping is in hotels. I mean in today world, reviews, ratings, and the Internet plays a very big part in people decisions on where they want to stay. If you're looking for a place to stay and see dirty, needed cleaned, we had to clean it, you're going to move on pretty quickly. If I had a home and "rented/leased" it on the apps, I'd for sure sure nobody is going to leave that kind of review of my place. The home owner of the house we stay in was heartbroken last year when I contacted her when we arrived. It was a simple mistake, they just got the dates wrong. And we appreciated that she cared enough that she made sure the home was cleaned just before her guests arrived. She did that all the time, for all of her guests. We left her a great review, didn't mention the mistake at all. She even called later to apologize again. That meant more to me than having to wait a little while. I'm sure she would have let us stay after check out time if we had wanted.
But I guess I can see your owners point of view too, make as much money as you can. 🤭

I agree, cleaning Airbnb's should be an absolute priority! My best friend had an airbnb that she operated for a few years and she always cleaned within hours of one guest checking out. We will definitely be leaving this airbnb much much cleaner than we found it, which is a shame since we'll probably also have to pay a cleaning fee! Unfortunately we will probably leave something to that effect in the review we'll leave....

And wouldn't blame you at all for just being honest in your review. I'm sure a lot of owners do their best to get good reviews. Hopefully bad or neutral reviews encourages them to do better.
