  • This Machine Greens, presented by Swan Bitcoin, is a documentary that explores Bitcoin’s complex and nuanced relationship with energy. The film is produced by Enrique Posner and directed by award-winning British filmmaker Jamie King whose Steal This Film series (2006-2010) was one of the most downloaded documentaries of all time.
    Featuring Swan’s Lead Economic Advisor Lyn Alden, along with Alex Gladstein, Nic Carter and many others, This Machine Greens dispels many of the misconceptions about Bitcoin mining and makes a compelling case for Bitcoin as a net positive for the environment.

    OMG! You guys did an amazing job! This was on point, succinct, and packaged short enough to make a true argument without subjecting people to hours of documentary watching. I've been looking for ways to share the beauty of Bitcoin to people who really listen to the media FUD and have no frame of reference of what is actually going on in the Bitcoin world. This video will be one of my biggest shares and selling points. It is the perfect amount of exposure to get the uninformed interested. Great Work!

    This is the Bitcoin documentary everyone needs to see. The story telling makes it all easy to understand - I think this could win over a lot of sceptics for sure. Information like this is so important. Hope the film gets all the attention it deserves. I wish our politicians would watch it and take it seriously. We need to start investing and facilitate Bitcoin mining with renewable surplus energy now.

    Some constructive criticism.
    The point is that generating electricity instead of burning associated gas does not reduce CO2 emissions. Obviously, the authors are weak in chemistry or physics. CO2 and H2O (water) are the end products of gas combustion, which also come out with exhaust and do not disappear anywhere. The generator uses the heat of combustion to generate useful electricity instead of aimlessly heating the atmosphere, that's the point. This is an annoying trifle against the backdrop of the film's brilliant content, but there are sure to be shitcoiners who will poke this misconception, transferring it to everything else.

    A well thought out review of how energy is harnessed for advancing civilisation. The last 2 minutes really speak to the fork in the road that we see today. Like anything in nature, evolution takes the path of least resistance, everything moving to balance. Energy consumption in nature is to maintain balance, to have a renewable sustainable ecosystem. The fact that proof of work and economics is headed that way is not surprising. Ecosystems that are sustainable should be the goal of humans, including their governments.

    Solar still has a cost overhead of $0,20 kw/hr. Renewables, solar, wind, etc. are still not economically viable. That is still higher than most residential electricity rates. Commercial and Industrial rates are far cheaper. So let's be honest here.

    • @jasonhoman6525

      I’m not sure how everyone failed to notice this pretty important fact

    • @wolfactual9190
      @wolfactual9190 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure where you are getting your numbers. My whole state (Washington State) relies on 93% renewables, Hydro and wind. I pay 0.08 kw/hr for a residential rate. Industry and commercial obviously being far better. Places such as West Texas produce such an abundance of Wind and Solar that they are paying some costumers and industries to use more. Unlike fossil fuels renewables do not fluctuate in price as dramatically based on the price of the particular commodities it uses as its fuel source, just like we are seeing now with fuel prices. Commodities are at the mercy of the fluctuating prices. Prices that only seem to go up over time due to inflation.

    • @TheOnlyRealGreyGhost
      @TheOnlyRealGreyGhost ปีที่แล้ว

      Your 93% renewables comes from Hydro Power, NOT SOLAR or WIND. Do you homework.

    • @wolfactual9190
      @wolfactual9190 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheOnlyRealGreyGhost No need to get upset but Ok, West Texas produces the 5th most renewable energy in the world if it was considered a country. That power is all from Wind and Solar. They produce so much that they pay for customers to take some of that excess energy from them, such as the Bitcoin miners. This symbiotic relationship allows for wind and solar generators to set up and maintain more because the miners help them profit during peak energy production. More generators mean more power for the grid there by making them more efficient even on the less sunny or windy days.
      Speaking of homework, where are you getting your numbers for Kwh?

    • @HidingFromFate
      @HidingFromFate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Valid question. My understanding that miners will still need to exist in order to keep validating transactions. They will collect fees from doing so, and will still require energy to do this. Whether this energy needed is still substantial enough to keep making a dent in excess or wasted energy, I don't know.

    This vastly oversilplifies money. Wompum was not 100% art or money. It was the value of respect you got from an entire tribe if you had something special the chief gave you and his people took the time and energy to make. That retained its value as the tribe was still strong and old traditions and relationships were respected. Theres far more variables than one. People love to oversimplify a complex world.
