I attended University of South Dakota and my biggest regret was that I was never into backpacking at that time to check out the Badlands. One day I hope to change that.
It's a wild place like no other. I don't take it for granted that I live so close!

About the critter on the trail, are you supposed stay on trail and not walk on the grassland? So you can't just take a wide berth and walk around the bison?
You are allowed to off trail hike here. I assure you I would break that rule any day to avoid these big boys!
