Myproana deserves a mention too. An entire forum dedicated to people with eating disorders, it's been renamed to "eating disorder support forum" and it seems to have gotten better over time but the anorexia section; seeing people talk about how their body is basically failing them because of how little they have eaten over the past months, if not years honestly disturbs me more than actual gore. Then again it's partly because I've struggled with anorexia myself (and tbf I still get ED thoughts, anorexia nervosa is a door that once you open you can never fully close) so it hits a bit too close to home.

Some fanfics are fine, and some are pretty decently done, but the lack of censorship rules means people's...darker impulses come to light. Then again, the site creators intentions was to create a platform with little, if any, restrictions so honestly, it is little surprising. If you're gonna read fanfic on that site, please be mindful of the tags, warnings, and the descriptions. They'll save your brain the trauma/desensitization. If you know anyone who is into that sort of stuff, they've got some issues they need working through. I know I do. I mean, I'm into a good chunk of weird stuff, but I've got my limits. *Edit from the future: Other than me inadvertently clicking on an old anthology fic I used to read, leaving after the first chapter due to snuff content, AND seeing the tags it had afterwards, I do my best to avoid reading anything that could qualify under that label. Sometimes, if I find myself reading a fic that contains snuff by mistake, I'm bailing. As an ao3 user, i can understand your point- but i disagree, although i have seen some fanfiction which is pretty disturbing, most of the writing you can find on there consists of relatively soft things compared to what was listed in the video. It all depends on where you look in ao3 tbh.

Myproana deserves a mention too. An entire forum dedicated to people with eating disorders, it's been renamed to "eating disorder support forum" and it seems to have gotten better over time but the anorexia section; seeing people talk about how their body is basically failing them because of how little they have eaten over the past months, if not years honestly disturbs me more than actual gore. Then again it's partly because I've struggled with anorexia myself (and tbf I still get ED thoughts, anorexia nervosa is a door that once you open you can never fully close) so it hits a bit too close to home.

As someone who use to frequent the site for certain (fictional) snuff of the worst variety and the worst kind of R34 as part of a certain addiction, yeah, I can see your point. Some fanfics are fine, and some are pretty decently done, but the lack of censorship rules means people's...darker impulses come to light. Then again, the site creators intentions was to create a platform with little, if any, restrictions so honestly, it is little surprising. If you're gonna read fanfic on that site, please be mindful of the tags, warnings, and the descriptions. They'll save your brain the trauma/desensitization.
If you know anyone who is into that sort of stuff, they've got some issues they need working through. I know I do. I mean, I'm into a good chunk of weird stuff, but I've got my limits.
*Edit from the future: Other than me inadvertently clicking on an old anthology fic I used to read, leaving after the first chapter due to snuff content, AND seeing the tags it had afterwards, I do my best to avoid reading anything that could qualify under that label. Sometimes, if I find myself reading a fic that contains snuff by mistake, I'm bailing. Any other time I click on fics out of curiosity/mistake, even ones I had forgotten about, and DON'T want to read again, I check the tags/author notes before reading and if they're ones that have snuff or...certain other tags such as lolisho, it doesn't matter how horned up I am; I'm bolting out of there.*

Before you start anger typing, know that I didn't read said chapter and just NOPED right out of there after reading the pre-chapter that explained the warning AND seeing the pics of people that the author used for reference which made me feel sick. Certain types of fictional characters being used in this is already pretty disgusting and questionable of the persons mind (I've been avoiding...certain types of characters such as lolisho, and certain fics for that matter, from my messed up past because I'm or was the kind of guy who'd look up A LOT kind of R34 back in the day AKA a "coomer"; not so much now for reasons that I've made pretty clear...), but real young people, or characters modeled after real ones, are wrong on so many levels, no matter if the scenario is faked or not. Needlesstosay, this is EXACTLY what I mean when I say to take warnings like this with caution. After that, I've never read ANY RPF since and I never, ever want to again. Real people R34 is already kinda...odd, but when it gets to that, it becomes disgusting.
Heck, there was an artist I regrettably used to (KEY WORDS: "USED TO" FOR OBVIOUS REASONS) be a fan of who did that kind of thing for his..."art". If you've been around R34 or been in the "Red Light" districts of the internet, you know EXACTLY who I'm talking about. To cut a long story short, I try to stay away from his work nowadays.
As an ao3 user, i can understand your point- but i disagree, although i have seen some fanfiction which is pretty disturbing, most of the writing you can find on there consists of relatively soft things compared to what was listed in the video. It all depends on where you look in ao3 tbh.

Some double takes and two checks of the description/profile later, mainly because my mind couldn't comprehend what it was seeing, I blocked and reported the user out of disgust.
