    Very Classy Bob with the black and white. I have that album and it's great, I have a ton of Grant Green and Kenny Burrell. I'm a Blue Note collector as well as Impulse. Are you getting out for "Record Store Day"?

      Thanks! I thought it looked good in B&W! TBH I cocked up the lighting a bit and it was more of a rescue job than a considered artistic decision. Lol! Yeah - great album, and this must be one of the most laid back tracks of all time!

    I just got Audio Technica Turntable and I was wondering do you record the sound separate for these videos or not?

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I record the sound direct into my computer from the phono amp then synchronise this with the video clips, and then deleting the sound captured by the camera's built in mic.

      Hi Luca. The Nagaoka is a really good listen - doesn't do anything wrong as far as I can see. It's definitely one of the best high output cartridges I own.

    Is the difference between the Mp300 and Mp500 big, or what`s the difference in sound?
    I want super sound in my Dire Straits albums

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never heard an MP500, but based on the fact that the 500 has a line contact stylus over the 300's elliptical, I'd say the 500 should sound slightly more detailed. How big a difference is something I can't answer however. Tonally, I would expect the two to sound very similar.

      I've always thought of this as (very) late night music - accompanied by a glass or two of your favourite tipple with the lights down low! I love the way Joe Henderson's solo sneaks in - on headphones it's like your right ear's being tickled ;o)

    Hi Bob, I can't help but notice that many of your albums have quite pronounced warps.

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sadly, yes. It's not like I don't store them correctly. I always play (and record) albums with a centre weight (which I leave off for the video so you can see the label), and sometimes I use an outer ring for the very worst cases. But if they play ok, well, I just get on with the listening ;o)

      @@chrisguygeezer I do my best Chris! Often it's newer records that are less than flat. Whether it's quality control at the time of pressing or storage before delivery I don't know. Also, I always wonder how people listen to my videos. Good hifi is always recommended ;o) Apple earbuds less so. Lol!

    • @GiantRock62
      @GiantRock62 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MusicAndVinyl Easy fix actually, all you need is a pair of half inch thick glass plates, let's say 12"x12" about the size of the LP disc then place the warped vinyl disc in between the glass plates and put it in oven, heat about at 100-150C for a few minutes, take it out and let cool down in room temperature with some weight placed on top glass, and once it's cooled vallaa now you have dead flat vinyl disc, repeat the process for your other warped discs. 👻

  • @indy749

    Good music but Nagaoka is not the best cartridge for a jazz music. It's too soft and mellow/mudded sounding, not hear the shimmering of hi-hats at all... But the highs is too important here.

  • @yippie6862
    @yippie6862 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bob, you've tried way more carts. than I. What is your favorite(s) under $1000 USD? I been thinking of a few possibilities for my next one. Nagaoka MP-300, MP-200, MP-500 - Ortofon Quintet Blue or Bronze - Hana EL or SL - ZYX Bloom? Any suggestions? Thanks much in advance.

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Recommending cartridges is very hard because everyone has different expectations and different turntables/phono amps etc; and also likes different music. But . . . ;o) You sound like you haven't ruled out either MM/MI or MC. In the high output field the top end Nagaoka's are very good - though I'm not sure the MP-500 is worth £100 more than the 300. I was also very, very pleasantly surprised with the Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III. Sumiko have just announced some new models, too, which would be worth looking at (don't know prices on these, though). The Hana's are exceptional value for money and though I have the EL I wish I'd gone straight for the SL really. My Zyx R100 has probably been equalled or bettered by the Bloom v2; the R100 never fails to give a beautifully balanced, involving performance. I've never heard a Quintet. I have an old Vivo Red, and I sold a Rondo Blue a while back - it just wasn't getting used. I get my Ortofon fix with a Synergy GM SPU! Bottom line - high output: Sumiko EVO III, low output Hana SL (based on my EL experience). I don't know if any of this helps?

      @yippie6862 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank Bob, yes it helped to clarify some things. I guess I just have to make a decision. I probably can't really go wrong with any of them. Maybe I need to buy a couple of them :).

      @@MusicAndVinyl I have a SME 3009 Series 1, would you go with the Ortofon SPU, and if so, which? McIntosh 4100 and Thorens TD 124, listen to an eclectic mix going from Ragtime to musicals to Swing Jazz to 60's garage psych. Lots of different speakers to play around with.

    • @MusicAndVinyl
      @MusicAndVinyl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tribalypredisposed Well, I've only heard my own SPU - a Synergy GM, so I'm not really qualified to give an opinion on other SPU models. Any would work well with your 3009, and I guess choices could come down to how much you want to pay, and what playing weight you want to use.
