Thank you, PA Game Commission! I'm a junior hunter and I went out for my first season this year, (I only do rifles, no archery) and my first deer was a SIX POINT! I can't thank you enough for allowing me and my dad to go hunting in the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania!
a crapton of new housing developments in western PA in what was once wooded hills n' valleys. could also be limiting factor for habitat / food, smaller racks, smaller dear. good show.
I’ve never heard anyone talk about opening private property you own being opened up to Sundays. I own 80 acres but can’t hunt it because an agency says I can’t. Maybe the state can table a law that if you own so much property you can hunt it any Sunday you want. I think every Sunday should be open regardless. Every state I hunt has Sunday hunting
@AEM-7_943 how do you feel about letting the deer ‘settle down’ on Wednesday instead of Sunday? Or do all predators take Sunday off so deer can just lay around and sleep all day long on Sunday….?
That last point rings true. Two seasons ago, I had a guy bragging to me about a bear he was going to harvest in archery season. His plan was to wait until it showed up and then pursue it. Needless to say, he failed.
Talking about late season.... I can't understand for the life of me why you make a fellow use a flintlock muzzleloader in the worst possible weather of the year. You up the number of doe tags available and want guys to shoot does, but the least you could do is allow the use of a percussion cap muzzleloader. I'm not saying scopes, or 209 primers, or anything like that. I'm saying just a percussion cap...so at least u have half a chance of it going off. It's kinda amazing; you'll let crossbows that shoot 100 yds able to be used, compounds that are nowhere near the skill needed for a longbow or recurve to b used, but we still have to use a flintlock? At least allow a percussion cap to be used; come on guys. If the traditionalist wants to use a flintlock, by all means do so. But not everyone gets to hunt when it's good or nice weather. And oh, the percussion cap dates back to the Civil war...just my .02.
Nice pod cast Matt! Call of the Outdoors is a Pennsylvania tradition thanks for continuing it

Great info.....thank you gentlemen!
Why don't we have more Sunday's that we can hunt deer? Wouldn't that help manage the population?

Sunday is a great day to let the deer settle down so they aren't so skittish and so there is less hunting pressure.

Great job

Would it be possible to get the number of archery ranges increased?
