- Carving these handmade saltwater fishing lures is very satisfying. In this video I make two wooden lures: a clownfish and a pacific mackerel. I use several techniques including through wire for strength, foiling for a realistic scale pattern and balancing or ballasting to weight the lures.

Great tip, thanks for watching!
Ever tried using aswivel for the bottom eye
I haven't tried it yet but I have seen the technique.
Amazing skill....
Thank you!
Hi
As usual adorable post, love it.
Could you please share how you are thinning your colors if at all required. What reducer you are using for shooting colors .
Thanks
You bet, I'll try to go over that a little better. I can tell you that I sometimes use the Createx thinner on the regular paints. I haven't ever had to do anything to the wicked colors. Thanks for watching!
@@zimmtex thanks for prompt reply, appreciated.
I find it difficult to shoot createx colors with reducers, basically home made. By the way what psi you keep for shooting createx without reducers.
Frankly, whenever I feel down I simply open youtube and watch your previous post.
All of them are just amazing !!
Thanks
@@raghubirjsudan8865 I have a really basic setup and am set at 50psi. Thank you your interest!
Amazing content 👌🏼
Thank you very much!
That mackerel pattern would definitely catch striper in the North East. Is that 3/4 inch bass wood? Looks incredibly clear....,I can not get nice woods like that locally.
Sorry for the late reply. These were made out of 3/4" poplar which I can get here. I have to order most everything else too. Thanks for watching!
So sick, what wood is recommended for lures? Thanks
You can make a lure out of almost any wood, but I really like basswood because it is pretty bouyant and easy to carve.
Sweet sounds good! Also wondering what you used at the start there to cover the wood ? Cheers
So amazing..good job bro..from malaysia..😚
Thank you for your support!
Hey Mate, great video and channel it has helped me heaps and my builds are so much better for it. Can I ask, the automotive primer you use is oil-based right? why does it not interfere with the water-based spray paint and lead to cracking or non bonding??
Hello! I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the channel! I don't know if this primer is oil based. It dries really fast and leaves a very matte finish. No problems with adhesion or cracking. Cheers!
Beautiful
Thanks!
Niiioce looks good!
Thanks!
Hey. Love your channel. How did you make those lure holders. Really interested in those
I cut some clips out of wood and drilled through so I could tighten them with wing nuts. Then I epoxied the clip into a piece of PVC pipe so that it would fit into the PVC caps on my drying wheel. I might make a video on how to build a drying wheel if there is enough interest. Thanks for watching!
Been loving your videos. But one question: do you scuff your baits after you do a clearcoat in between painting to ensure bonding of the paint and next epoxy layers?
Thanks! I do not scuff the lure; it seems to bond well without it and I haven't had any problems.
Thank you for watching! I did not make the epoxy mixer. I bought it online. I put a link to it in the description for you.
@@zimmtex Ok obrigado pela informação, abraços!!!
Where did u get the wire bending pliers
I've got the concave pliers linked in my website under the hardware tab:

Thanks for watching!
I made one clown fish bait just a while ago same like this one except for the shape... Also has single hooks
Awesome! I really like this style of bait because they are simple and swim well. Thanks for watching!
If you want to get your wire straight... put one end in the wise and the other end in your drill.... turn slowly.....
Thanks for the tip! I know there are wire straighteners out there, but your method sounds much simpler.
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
Nice work love those single hooks ..... I'm not feelin the action of that lure to be honest ... I feel that the position of the weights and the amount that you installed is really stopping the lure to move correctly. The man over there at Solar baits did videos on these types of stick baits about 8 years ago... and his information on it is unsurpassed. I'm not trying to be a ass I'm just trying to make some constructive suggestions. Keep the videos coming.
Hi James, I appreciate and welcome your comments. These lures have a pretty wide gait. If I had thought about it, I would have weighted them differently so I would have a variety of actions to work with. I will definately be making more of these and look forward to making them better. Thanks for watching and for commenting!
