    I have been making my own lures since the mid 70s. We fished for Walleyes and Yellow Perch. Now I have moved to Florida and it's a different game. I will have to learn how to make Bass lures. I have found the right teacher. Great job.....Bill

    I found a nice little trick for placing the eyes. Clip the cotton off the end of a q-tip and glue a small piece of masking tape to it and trim the excess tape around the tip. It holds the eye pretty well so it can be placed accurately.

    • @zimmtex
      @zimmtex  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I've fished the Conejos my whole life and there are plenty of trips I caught nothing. From what we were told, whirling disease got pretty bad there so they stopped stocking it. I saw plenty of fish on that last trip we took which was encouraging.

    What type of wood do you prefer to make your lures out of? I’m thinking about attempting to make my own lipless crank bait…

      Right now, my favorite wood is basswood because it's easy to carve & holds detail well.

    Hi there love the carving skills. I have just got into making some lures myself, only started a few months ago and really enjoying it. One thing i noticed was your hands are scar free. Mine after a few weeks look like i been ten rounds with Freddy Krueger. Anyhow practice makes perfect as they say. Going to give this one a try for sure. Great video.

      Thank you for watching! I've been carving since I was a kid and have cut myself plenty of times. These days I try to be more careful. I'm happy to hear you are giving this a try. Good luck on your lure making journey!

    Very informative, You really stressed out with the glue ,IDK if this will help but if you put a smidge of glue on a toothpick then toothpick the backing of the eye you just have to drop the eye in place and you'll use much less glue. Also a louva might be easier to manage instead of wrapping with screen. You make an awesome lure.. ps if you wet area on lure before applying decal it will slide easier to desired spot

      What do you print the Decals with, Lazer or Inject? At what DPI?
      Have you used the UV/Blacklight paints on your lures yet, I've just bought the green... Not seen anything like it before, ordering more colour's now I know they really light up. Not like the stuff that lasts for a few seconds after charging them with a torch!!! It dries clear so can be used on top of any colour, I've only tried on white and light colours... But it GLOWS unbelievably.
      During research they have found out that fish are really sensitive to the UV, that's why CHARTREUSE works so well! I've not seen anyone on TH-cam use it on lures! I just thought that you of all people would make an excellent video of the UV paints.

    • @zimmtex
      @zimmtex  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, I am just now seeing your message. I print my decals with an inkjet printer at 300dpi, but they do have laser paper as well. You are right, I have not seen a lot of blacklight paints on lures. That's interesting, I did not know that fish were that sensitive to UV. Thank your for the suggestion, I will add that to my list!
