I like how hyped the crowd was. At the same time it's just occurred to me that I haven't seen an interview of Lasha or the other lifters. I also think that just as we see gymnasts, track athletes swimmers, soccer players, football players and basketball players on the cover of magazines and on cereal boxes that same energy should go towards weightlifters. They put just as much effort, discipline and dedication into being the best they can be as any other athlete does. I'm not dissing any other athlete. Lasha struggled on his 267 clean and jerk (it initially got two reds before the jury gave it back to him). If he one day snatches even 230, which would be completely mind boggling, he'd need to hit 270 on the clean and jerk to get to 500. If he doesn't snatch north of 225, it'd need to be 275 or more. It's crazy how small Caucasus region got all 3 top spots, in European championship... I keep seeing Caucasus people, especially Georgians, winning this sport very often. Like, is it because of natural selection, in past 10k, caused by living in mountainous region? favoring ones that lift heavy rocks? or why are two 3M population nations better than whole European competitors? (and whole world too, from what I see, they even get top spots in world championships, again, especially Georgians)
I have asked this question many times on this channel, but still no answer. I love Lasha and what he does, but why does he have so much gut. Does it not interfere with the bar? Would he not be better if he was a little thinner in the gut area and maybe a little more cardio fit?
He wouldn't be able to carry as much muscle mass if he was concerend with losing weight. His goal is to carry as much muscle mass as possible, and if extra fat comes along with that it's ok. The cardiovascular demands of the sport are extremely low.
Awesome! Lasha is overweight, even for +109kg class. That much belly weight is very dangerous for his health. I would strongly suggest he gets blood work done immediately. I can almost guarantee there will be some serious issues when that blood lab comes back. Amazing lifter, but at this point in his life, he is literally in a lot of pain, just not worth it.
He’s literally the best in the world at his sport and likely uses large dosages of anabolics… of course he has doctors monitoring his health and bloodwork is standard for anyone on gear.
I'm pretty new to Weightlifting so forgive the stupid question, but why was Lasha so completely out of breath? I get that it's a maximal effort lift but he was panting still 3 minutes after the lift which seems really weird to me. Did he have any issues going into this with conditioning or something? And do weightlifters do any GPP? Just curious, not trying to make fun or anything here, dude's a beast.
Yes, he has confirmed that he has a minor heart issue previously and recently his condition has been worsening. His body can only support so much mass so I hope he retires soon for the sake of his health. No human should be at 180kg, even for his frame, but that's the sacrifice he's made to get to this level.
Steroids fuck up your heart, being very obese is hard on your heart, combine these two things with the absolutely enormous amount of energy it takes to move the weight he does, and this is where you land. Makes me concerned that his heavier lifts come from higher doses compared to the other athletes though. I'm not concerned with use if every one is on similar amounts, but if one athlete finds a way to skate by with heavier usage it's bad for the sport.
