She was part of the "Native Tongues" crew which also consisted of De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Tribe Called Quest, and the Jungle Bros. Monie released 2 albums "Down to Earth" and "In a Word or 2." She was nominated for 2 Grammy's one for "Monie in the Middle" and one for "It's A Shame." She hosted MTV's Lip Service and appeared in 2 movies "Strapped" (HBO) and "Who's the Man." She's like 46 years old and can still can pass for a 20 something old female! I see a lot of people tripping about her accent. Idris Elba is British but he trained himself to talk in an American accent. Same thing with Thandie Newton. When they act, they sound American. But when they talk, they sound like their nationality. I guess it's like when a person stutters. Most people who stutter can sing without stuttering at all. Look up Mel Tillis. When he talked, he stuttered constantly. But when he sang, it was flawless.

She's lived in the States for decades, be grateful she has any trace of a London accent at all!

i have friends who moved from brazil to portugal and they lost their brazilian accent in 1 year
but sometimes it comes back and its a mix just like with monie i think its normal

I have a English friend who been residing in Japan for 5 years and speaks fluent Japanese. so is it normal for him to now have a Japanese accent?? it only normal if he was raised Japan.
I think as long as a person has a clear and neutral voice then one's accent should not matter.

When they're rappng it's easy to forget that Monie Love and Slick Rick are both from the UK and not the US, because you don't hear the accent, but try holding a regular conversation with them and the accent is clearly there. LOL!

Thats what happens when you move to another country and spend most of your adult life there. Its no big deal, she's basically half british and half american at this point. Her talent speaks for itself.
