People like to talk about gerrard, and rightly so as he’s a legend, but xabi alonso was the real midfield general in that team.

@@AceGotHits no midfielder is more complete than Gerrard take it or not, he did everything player can do in midfield shoot, pass long or short with 100% precision, tackle, score goals with right or left feet and header

That is perfect but you didn't mention that after liverpool scored 3 goal later gerrard moved to right back postion to man mark serginho and he did it greatly

Man, that Milan team was something special then, but that Liverpool team (despite being outclassed at every position) didn't know when to quit. People often forget how good Smicer was too, really underrated player.
Outclassed in every position? What planet are you on? Nobody comes close to Steven Gerrard. Although the defence was terrible.
@@neilpa Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka are some of the most decorated players to ever play the game. Yes, Gerrard was fantastic (and I'm a Liverpool fan), but to say none of those 3 come close to him? Take off the rose tinted glasses, mate. And you're forgetting that Xabi Alonso was also in that team too...
@@StriderDSC I'm not saying those players were not great. Kaka was overrated anyway, however Gerrard was unique in his position. Nobody in that Milan side would be his equivalent. Yes I know Xabi Alonso was great. Take off your rose tinted specs, how were Liverpool outclassed in every position? Even with a sub standard squad that was not the case.
Ancelotti and Pirlo both wanted Gerrard at Milan. I'd say that Alonso and Gerrard were world Class and to be honest Hamman was a really solid player. The defence and up front is where Liverpool were really lacking they actually had a decent midfield.

I would like to watch Tactical analysis of Porto-Manchester United match in 2004 UCL. I have heard a lot of about that match. First Sir Alex Ferguson vs Jose Mourinho show down.
I think Milan should brought Rui Costa or Serginho on for Crespo as soon as Gerrard scored, if Rui Costa they could've packed the midfield and pinned either Alonso or Gerrard back with Rui Costa and not let them have so much impact on the game and regaining control of the midfield, or if Serginho had come on they could've used him to draw Smicer out of midfield and then play Maldini as a centre back but, his job would've almost specifically been to mark Gerrard out of the game. I personally would've gone with the latter as Gerrard was the key man in that final, scoring a goal and winning the penalty, I imagine Maldini to be an almost impossible man to shake and could've almost completely nullified that threat and allowed Pirlo, Gattuso and Seedorf to focus on Alonso, Didi and the dropping Garcia.Then again Ancelotti has won 3 Champions Leagues so what do I know? lol

I remember that night. In the half time, everybody was like wow so easy win for Milan. And I said, chill, this is Liverpool. If there is one team in the world that is capable of coming back, it's 'pool. So it's not over yet. No one belived me.
