All I care about now is LOTR and One Piece. Rings of Power blows, but it’s not like they’re going after every single fan favorite male legacy character and committing character assassination like what Disney and Kennedy are doing to Star Wars. Mando Season 3 and Ahsoka were it for me. Star Wars is finished. Sold a few of my vintage Star Wars autograph cards for over $1,500 this past week. The hype, lore, and excitement is gone.

As heretical as it sounds, I don't care if someone passes some kinda fandom litmus test, I just want them to have the right attitude, because God knows Dave Filoni is a huge fan, and he's always had a bad attitude that I don't like. And ofc, I'm not saying Kennedy has the right attitude either. But that's what I want. Someone to have the right attitude, and we don't get that from Disney-owned Lucasfilm.

I won't be seeing this new Rey movie either barring a shocking turn of events in which the reviews from people I trust come back raving! I have never seen anything she's ever done and probably never will because she's one of those people who love to pat themselves on the back and preach to people who agree with her.... Given the fact they aren't going to be using any of the OG cast, its going to bomb for sure, even if they do put say Luke in as a force ghost, people will likely still give it the middle finger by not going to see it, we seen that happen back in the Summer, where people collectively gave Indi 5, the middle finger and never showed up, resulting in the film being a MAJOR bomb as apart of a string of failures that the Walt Disney company on the whole is suffering from, because they decided to get into politics and leaned heavily to one side and began hiring nut jobs or people who simply have no experience in making multi million dollar films, everything is falling apart, as Nelson Peltz has put it, their fly wheel is broken and Disney is meant to have multiable fly wheels and all of them are pretty much broken at this point, they wrecked Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, Disney animation, Fox is going the same way, they plan to turn Hulu, AKA the profitable stearming service, into Disney plus by merging the two and having Disney plus be the primary service, when its not even generating a profit currently, so Disney is a company pretty much ready for collapse and if Peltz is prevented from getting on, this company will likely crash and burn within the next couple of years as they got NOTHING, Universal has beaten them at the box office, they got a major theme park coming and they plan to build one in the UK, what does Disney have in the works, a poorly planned retheming of what was considered the most popular theme park ride of all time, they cannot even get their lighting to work in a brand new piece of a park that just openned resently, so this company is rippe for collapse and hostile takeover!

Whenever i hear any artist talk about what they personally want to inject into the project they are in charge of, i rarely ever take concern. As artists, they get to explore themes that are close to them. The key issue at hand with the argument regarding adding anything political to Star Wars is not that someone wants to use it as a vehicle to get their point across, its more a matter of how well written and executed that point is. I always think of Jaws when it comes to this. Jaws is incredibly effective at introducing multiple themes that audiences can identify with without sacrificing all of the qualities that make it a brilliant movie. The island community, Amity, is a close minded xenophobic town where the permanent residents of the island are suspicious of outsiders unless they are summer tourists who are feeding into the local economy. The 3 main character's in the movie are all outsiders. Brody is the police chief who landed in the community months before the events of the movie occur. We see him being bullied by the Mayor and his entourage for not understanding the way the community operates. We overhear his wife on the beach asking when she gets to become an islander only to be informed never. If she's not born here, she's not an islander. A permanent outsider. Hooper is bullied by local fisherman because he knows what a tiger shark looks like. He is bullied by the Mayor because he is an educated man who has an understanding of the situation and knows there is still a shark out there. Quint appears to be a permanent resident of Amity who hates the locals as much as they hate him. Nonetheless, these 3 outsiders band together to fight an even bigger outsider threat for a town that could care less about any of them except for how they can be utilized to support the town. All of this is presented in a movie that has a primary goal of scaring you. These additional themes and character developments are not in place to overshadow the goal of the movie, but instead are subtly introduced to make audiences identify with, understand and care about the characters on screen. Spielberg has introduced themes of xenophobia into many of his movies without having those personal points derail his movie. If someone you know who has never seen Jaws asks you what its about, no one is ever going to say its about a xenophobic community, but those themes are there and they are important to how the story progresses and they are important to why we learn to love these characters. They are also themes that the artist who directed the movie holds close to his heart. For all of the recognition Jaws gets for being the grandaddy of blockbusters, i wish studios would look at it and realize one of the reasons it was a gigantic bottle of lightning was how well thought out it was.

Everything that Andor, Mandalorian and Bad Batch has added to the Star Wars universe and basically anything of quality that has come out the last few years has been undercut by the fact that it all leads to Rey standing over the ruins of the Death Star holding a dagger that somehow had a map etched to it that required her standing in that exact spot.
No amount of worldbuilding can expunge that from my head sadly.

I think these directors need to avoid the social and political posturing that has been common place in Hollywood lately. Lucas’s first wife did a lot to shape the original trilogy. With her input with the dialog. All this grandstanding feminism and empowerment talk is getting old and is in instant turn off for the fan. We just want great movies. No matter if your male female black white gay or straight. Doesn’t matter, just make great content that everyone can enjoy.

I'll wait till the trailers drop to really judge it but gotta say the attitude of the director doesn't give me a lot of confidence that this franchise is getting better or give any more focus to the quality of the story over the socio-political content they can put into it.

The tragic thing (okay, *one* of the tragic things) about this is that if they just made something good, if they brought us interesting, compelling, multi-faceted characters, if they told us a *good story*, no one (or almost no one) would care about any of this. Spin us a yarn, give us a reason to care about the people on screen, give them something nearly impossible to overcome and we’ll be there to cheer for them when they defy the odds and finally do. If you have a message you want to deliver, take a page from George’s book and imbed it in a tale as old as humanity and watch the world eat it up. But alas, that all seems to be a lost art.

    1) People won't be shamed into watching this movie. People don't like to be told how they think. And if they think a certain way, a movie is not going to win them over.
    2) Given Obaid-Chinoy's inexperience (in terms of Live-Action she only did two Episodes of _Ms.Marvel_ so far), I can already see how this is gonna go: Bad test screenings, massive reshoots and recuts, a ballooning budget. Unless Kennedy gives her complete creative control and has her back thorough the entire process no matter what, I don't think the finished product will feature much of the director's individual influence. Rather, this will probably feel and look like a Movie made by comittee.

At what point does sexism shift from women being oppressed to _men_ being oppressed? Cause I'm kind of concerned that we are starting to reach that threshold. Men shouldn't be shamed on or "made uncomfortable" just because of their gender. Its not right... Just because some men make stupid decisions doesn't mean all men are awful people. :(

Again Thor you so beautifully expressed what I feel are all the points within this subject. It's really hard to find anything more that needs saying as you covered it all so well.
I think the worst element of this latest generation of femmanism is this whole notion that men are wrong and need fixing, that we are a problem, even THE problem, in society and these women have the solution. I believe that makes it pretty clear that they, and their movement, are the problem and it is they that are full of hate and desire to control and manipulate everyone else. I don't know if their goal is to actually convert men into queers, trans, or just serfs to serve their lesbian Amazonian fantasy world. It is only clear that we have no place in their world. This agenda isn't just being driven by her, KK, or even Iger, that whole company is nominated by these people as is almost all of the entertainment industry. The only answer I can see is a parallel one of basic, decent, and natural human sensibilities. It would be great if someone bought Star Wars back from them, but short of that it will take a regime change, followed by a massive purging of the woke, of Disney to save Star Wars.
