    You will Love that Fasturn tool set! Great sewing book haul too! I saw that last book on fitting at a sew expo & it was about $150! The CEO of Goodwill earns $1M a year. Even though they are a 501C3/not for profit, Less than one-eighth of the company's profit goes toward its charity work. Goodwill sells free goods at a profit, but less than one eighth of that profit actually goes to the job-related programs they market as their primary pillar of charity work. However, each store is independently owned and some give a lot back to their communities. On the other hand, 82 cents of every dollar donated to the Salvation Army goes toward program services (like adult rehab centers for alcohol & drugs) & remaining 18 cents/% goes toward admin cost. Their CEO earns about $125K a year. Many people I know prefer to thrift at local shops run by local hospitals, churches & pet rescues to support local charity work & because of "charities" like Goodwill. The prices have really gone up at Goodwill too.

      Well here I am dead away on the floor. Thank you so much Claire! I'm so glad you've commented here because I found your TH-cam channel. The video you did on the Jacqueline Groeg Exhibit in Palm Springs was fascinating, especially to me as I'm a huge Laura Ashley fan and it looks as if they were contemporaries. Such a pleasure. Thanks so much for watching my video about the books! I'm honored!

    Wow you hit the lottery with all the books! I remember watching sewing with Nancy as a child. It was a bit boring to me as a child and teen, but for some reason, we still watched it. Maybe because my mom liked it, I’m not sure. Maybe because future self was like you should watch this. I also thought Nancy was so proper and beautiful and calm.

      I loved Sewing with Nancy. It grew out of her Nancy's Notions store in Beaver Dam, WI. I guess some details stick with you! She was such a unique person, very North American in her countenance. I felt the same way about Jeopardy when I was a kid - my mom always watched it so I did too. Now I love it! We turn into our parents eventually - it's inescapable 😂

    Hi Jen, first you won’t regret getting the fast turn set, I have had the set for many years and love them. Also, I have two of the books you talked about, making patterns from finished clothes and The Best of Sewing with Nancy ( I have a few of her books). I believe I got several of my sewing books back when Oxmoor House would do those mail order book deals, I miss those.

    You seem to have good luck at thrift type stores. There are a few in my neighborhood and they all seem to be very overpriced for the stuff they sell. I like the old, vintage historical stuff and is more difficult to find. My experience is especially Goodwill is just too overpriced, and many times they charge more than I can find online! Yeah really. Garage sales are the best, but they have thinned out since covid. What I really like are the very old patterns and they are impossible to find. I am not a fan os sewing with sheets, they are too closely woven and don't work good for quilts, and I do make quilts much of the time. You can sometimes find Nancy Zieman's on t.v., and on you tube. You are going to be busy reading all those book--enjoy.

    Hello Jen. I enjoy your videos so much and also your thrift trips with your sewing sisters. I am also from Florida but do not have any sewing buddies. So I am learning by watching videos on TH-cam. I don't know much, but I would love to make progress in my sewing, which is my passion. I have been watching the Fitting and Pattern Alternation book since you talk about it in your video of your trip to the Sewing & Quilting Expo. On Amazon, they sell a Paperback for $237.88 and a Book Supplement for $120.00. Do you happen to know what is the difference between those books? Can you get one versus the other?

    • @TodayinJensSewingRoom
      @TodayinJensSewingRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gladys! For the Fitting & Alteration book, goodness sakes you shouldn't pay $240! Try getting a used copy on Abebooks.com. You'll pay FAR less and still get the same great information. There should be a link to it in the description box.
