I’m 39 and I ran 20 miles on Jan 1st listening to Goggins. I smoked a pack a day and drank myself to sleep every night 6 months ago. Quit everything. Started running in October. Once you change your mindset it really changes how you see your possibilities. Like I just don’t care now I’m doing it. Nothing bothers me.

David Goggins is motivating not because he was a Navy Seal, ultra athlete, pull-up world record holder, etc. He is motivating because he did not let his circumstances of verbal and physical abuse control him and be a victim. When people say he is crazy or a masichist they do not understand the power that abuse has over a person. So when you hear Goggins speak you are listening to a man that is no longer a victim and is living life in freedom. #stayhard
Goggins is motivating because he tells the truth. Comfort is the enemy of growth and the secret to getting to be the real you is exercising the mind and body and there is nothing at all easy about it. Life is suffering and through the struggle we will find the true worth of who we were meant to be.
Total devastation in my life. Every day is painful and I can't let up for a moment. What a gift! Up early, cold showers, breathing exercises, meditation, workouts, full time job, building a new career and maintaining my daughter as my top priority. No one can hurt you when you're on a mission! Don't even know why I wrote this but if you're reading it . . . YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!
I’m right here with you bro my daughter is my mission still tho everyone wants to play mind games , take you out the game , like real life setting me up in situations life or death idk bout y’all but I stick to my principles and no doubt all this hard work is paying off
Everyone could defo benefit from listening Goggins, and as a female as well i reckon a boat of females could do with listening to this, and not just listening, but actually taking it in, without saying 'is he not a bit harsh' xxx ;)
Goggins saved my life, when I first heard a youtube vid with him I weighed 420bs at 6 foot and 42yrs old !! 7 months later id lost 170 of those !! and turned the rest into muscle. Still running weekly , wont ever stop, but even more importantly than motivating me to change my body he helped me fix my head !!! I own my past now and no one can hurt me ever again with what I WAS, I just stand there now as what I AM Today , and that matters more.
@@Ericrawnsley 5 pounds a week for 28 weeks on a person losing less than 1% of their bodyweight a week isn't that crazy unhealthy. If it were a 200 pound man losing 3 pounds every week for weeks....yeah I'm going to have to agree with you there but an very obese person losing weight over the course of half a year, that's far easier and less damaging because of all the stored bodyfat. I agree about extending it to double that time to be healthier
I hate running. But once I began to enjoy the pain of running, I started to crave it. Eventually my mind started to clear and while I'm running, I'm at my most peaceful. My thoughts are coherent and logical. They are productive. It's the only solace I get before I go to work and deal with chaos day in and day out. When my legs and abs are sore while at rest, I know I did something great. When I leave my house to run and it's dark, and then when I get back to my house and the sun is just coming up, I know I've earned that sunrise and now I can actually start the rest of the day. I still hate running but I like who I am while I'm running.
I completely relate. I was never a "runner" and never considered myself athletic. I always loved how I felt after a run - it was my high, it really was. Hope you are still running and taking care of #1!
I am a shitty runner but I can walk pretty good so I downloaded the audiobook and decided I’d walk the distance of a Marathon in 35+ degree weather in AUS and after approx 9 hours I did all while listening to Goggins. I’d never walked more then 5klm and I did 42klm with no training. It really is the mind that controls the body and I tested it on this walk and I won. I’m now training for a Charity event in 2019 to walk/run 24 hours non stop to see how far you can go. I want 100+ kilometres. Thanks Goggins you really have changed my mentality on what’s possible
My father was the hardest man on earth . No publicity and unknown. A man of God , kind and hard working . Provided for his family. Never swore . Never bragged . Selfless and giving . Always giving . Always giving selflessly . No ticker tape parade for my pop. Not needed. That is the person that has influenced me the most . David Goggins is up there on the list of my heroes also but he isn’t alone.

At 49y old I was 220lbs and an alcoholic,2 pack a day, overeater. At 53y-173lbs now I'm cycling to work 16mi rnd trip, valet for a job run 6-8mi a day plus stairs and stop at the gym on the way home. I burn about 3000 calories a day. I now listen to Goggins during my ride to sustain me when I'm lagging. Hes like the training buddy I never had. Thanks David for showing me that I'm not alone! Aloha and mahalo, Rich and Goggins!
Every morning at 4:15 when my alarm goes off, I literally hear Goggins in my head. Once you adopt his mindset something clicks in your head and you’re forever changed. Nobody else compares to Goggins.
David, doubt you'll read this, but I'm a just turned 61 year old white truck driver. I stop everyday at the Brazil exit on 70 to log in on my computer. I think of you every day I do this. I'm also a Navy veteran. I've never witnessed the racism that you've experienced, but I fully believe it exists. If I ever do, you can bet I'll stand against it... that sir, I promise you.
Rich Roll is the BEST interviewer I have heard. It's not just a pingpong question and answer session..the way he connects, and guides and reflects...he gets so much more out of this interaction for us. And as a result we get 1000% of Goggins.
Shelia C. You're so right. Rich Roll was the first interviewer who really got my attention. I think the key is that he really listens, instead of thinking about what he was going to say next.
I fell into a really dark pit with depression and anxiety. I got the audiobook late spring this year and I've been running 4 miles every other day and body weight workout every other since then. I dropped all my medication. It's still dark some days but the hell of a lot better. Getting that audiobook was the best investment I've done.
Challenging physical exercise, I believe, is the first defense against our demons. :-) Congratulations. Darkness won't entirely disappear but it's at bay! Amen. Recommend Jordan Peterson--anything.
@@WLynn-su2fs Thank you. I agree. Taking physical action takes your mind with it even if it doesn't initially want to :) the power of taking action and physicality is tremendous state changer. @Sheila Camacho. Rich Roll, David Goggins and Wim Hoff. The mentors I never had. As real as it can get. Legendary pioneers. Humble and down to Earth. A-star celebs can only dream of having one percent of their authenticity talent and influence. These 3 are doing Gods work if there is any. I try to support them as much as possible so they can keep on making the Earth a better place. True 21st century heroes.
The thing I love about Goggins is that he never paints himself as a God, impervious to pain and how shitty everything is. Its helped me put a lot more of my shit in perspective than any other motivational speaker for me
Yes!!! Wim is the fucking man, too. Think, if Goggins did the Wim Hoff method for a couple years. I wanna see the end result of that! Holy shitballs, batman.
Amazing that he said “Look into his eyes.” - I look into Goggins’ eyes, and I see clarity. I see honesty. I see authenticity. And I see eyes unburdened by the regret of what might have been.
Yess, that's right. I did some dumb stuff, but that stayed in past. But things i did not done and i had oportunity, that hurts. We need to be able to lern from that and take some motivation from it not to repeat mistakes
I see someone who is running away. It feels to me like he has beaten himself into submission just like his father did. God bless him. He is trying his best but he is not my role model.
Gary V got me 'thinking', Tony Robbins got me 'doing'.....Goggins got me 'doing' far beyond my previous limits. These 3 men have changed the course of my life. Thanks gentlemen!!! Can't wait to pay it forward.
Gary V is just porn for entrepreneurs ;) I don't really know how to categorize Robbins to be honest, but what we can say for sure is that Goggins is the real deal, without all the money-grabbing bling self-promotion BS, love him xxx!
He changed mine. Forever. So good to see him laughing and smiling at the beggining of the video. He sure deserves all the happiness possible in this world. I have this dude in my heart and mind everyday. God bless you David. Long life to you
Do you have bad habits? Do you feel stagnant or stuck on where you at? Do you really wanna transform and enhance your life like he did? What are your hinders/obstacles? In what part of your life are you struggling?
As a woman who has been chronically ill most of my life, this man has continually inspired me to push harder in spite of my illness. Getting back to endurance sports has been so gratifying - even through all the suffering.
I'm so happy for you, Alexa. If you're ever in the market for a doctor that will address your illnesses in a natural way, please look up Doctor Alan Goldhamer. The man's advice saved me, 100%. I'm 36 and I feel better than I did at 18. The ailments and surgery I was told I needed by 25? Gone. I want this for everyone. Take care, Alexa.
This man's drive is infections. You know the content is powerful when you stop watching halfway through and get down to actual work to advance in life. Thank you
I can't think of a better way to start the new year than to listen to Goggins. He reminds us that as a member of the human race, we can push through our limitations because we were designed to do so.
I spent 11 years in the military and LIVED this mindset. Goggins and I have very similar childhoods. Now, years later, I lost that mindset as a civilian and struggled with PTSD. Thank you David for helping me to find that old fire again...
Do you have bad habits? Do you feel stagnant or stuck on where you at? Do you really wanna transform and enhance your life like he did? What are your hinders/obstacles? In what part of your life are you struggling?
The best Goggins conversation I've heard yet! So nice to see the personal development. * Get clear about who you are to find peace. * There’s no clarity when there’s noise. You gotta stop and reflect. * Stay in constant pursuit of your 100%. * “I have to be very present in everything I do. If I put my 100% into what’s in front of me I will destroy it." * People have to be willing to break themselves down and stop hiding. * "Once I found out who I really was, that’s when I started growing." * “It’s all about mindset. You have to change the dialogue within your head.”
@Howie Nordstrom, it’s quite interesting to see someone’s synopsis of Goggins. What you took out of it are different parts to me, but very good none the less. That goes to Goggins strength. He makes you think of finding the real you and the greatness you were destined to achieve and that is what he does for me too but I receive it through other parts of his message. *Life is not fair, being abused is really the breeding ground for being stronger, not weaker. *Comfort is the enemy of growth. Happiness does not always deliver results, but discomfort and removing the governors of our mind, that cause us to choose comfort and happiness, need to be removed to achieve greatness. *Don’t float at 40%. *Be accountable and face the truth of your failures. Accountability mirror. Take down every one of those failures one by one. *Own the morning. The man who lands the first punch wins, mostly. Thanks, it was cool reading your comment
I love listening to this man, I love looking at his face and seeing his intensity, sometimes his sad eyes. You just listen to him and want to up your game straightaway. And I'm a 51 year old woman :-) struggling to do just yoga every day! He is inspirational across age, gender, race and capability
I'm 36 and in the best shape of my life due to diet change and yoga! It's not "just yoga", Suzy and Joanna. ;) It's hard, transformational work. It's the martial art you perform against the Self. I avoided surgery and healed my spine with diet and Ashtanga yoga alone; it's a heavy duty healing modality. Even if you manage to get on your mat for 5 minutes a day; it counts, and I've made some huge strides physically simply devoting 5 minutes to a pose in my practice. Don't underestimate yourself; you deserve credit. You're taking steps to change and improve your own life. We exist in a world where most of us have been trained to be apathetic, externalize our power and happiness, and expect instant gratification. Taking the necessary steps to combat that is a big deal. Every time you step on that mat, do what David does and see yourself at the end of your journey; allow that the image to propel you forward! Keep going!!
I was a depressed piece of shit after my fiancé left me. I was smoking a pack a day, drinking like a fish, taking pills, eating garbage food, drinking sodas and shit I was falling the fuck apart. and then I came across GOGGINS. The best part of David’s speaking is the comments are always so positive and everyone wants to see everyone else winning, u don’t find that a lot on the internet nowadays, Always great energy with David.
This isn't just an interview, it's a life changing experience! David Goggins is showing what a human is truly capable of. I love how he acknowledges how God helped to train him through his struggles. He was never alone in that sense. And I understand the importance of creating a challenge for yourself if life isn't providing them! Thank you Rich Roll for creating a space where thoughts, feelings and ideas flowed equally between you both. Thank you David Goggins for sharing your amazing on-going story of triumph over adversity. Angel blessings from Precious Sweetheart 🙂🙏
I've bought the book and listed to it during the christmas holidays. Listing to him tell his story I was drawing up in my mind the similar hells I've been through as a kid grown up. lots of foster homes due to my mom mental illness, an abusive step father in high school and so on. I wanted to go into the military after high school but was talked out of it by my uncle. In all I found David Goggins story very inspiring. I'm working on shifting my mind like I've never done before. 2019 is here, new tactics, new mission. Roger that.
Great interview. I get the sense in the presence of David Goggins you can’t bullshit he has hawk eyes that can see you at your core no chose but to be real authentic. He has a very intense presence.
Every time I listen to or read something from David Goggins, I fight back the tears. His words have touched my soul and inspire me on a level I didn't know existed. Although we come from different families, different races, and different backgrounds, many of his experiences, feelings, and emotions are almost identical to mine! My wife, my son, and I go out for a family walk every evening. About a week ago, we were out walking, and I was listening to "Goggins." Without realizing it, my adrenaline starting pumping, my feet started moving faster, and my speed picked up to almost a slow jog. The next thing I knew, I looked around and realized my wife and son were about 200 yards behind me! 😅 Thanks, Goggins!
Goggins proves that SELF CONFIDENCE is brilliant and necessary.... the internet is making us hide back in our shelves and not be bold and brilliant. STAND UP AND GET WHATS YOURS
The truth will set you free, but it will ruin your life. Taking a hard internal look at yourself can be one of the most hurtful journeys a person can take. Goggins is an inspiration.

I learned of David Goggins on the Rich Roll Podcast the first time he was on. I then listened to other podcasts David went on and I have to say that Rich Roll has a gift when it comes to interviewing. I feel like Rich digs deeper and takes any conversation to another level whereas other podcasters just scratch the surface. Thank you Rich for introducing your audience to David Goggins. I have since read his book and he is just one of the most inspirational people I look up to.
My only complaint about this podcast is that it has to end, I could listen to these two amazing human beings talk for way longer than 2 plus hours. Rich + Goggins = Fucking Epic.

Can’t hurt me is the most meaningful book I’ve ever read. I’m on my 5th read through in 3 years each time I take my time and try my best to get something new out of it. The last 3 years I’ve ran a half marathon went skydiving climbed pikes peak and have quit all substance abuse however I dove head first right back into a life of drugs and fornication and laziness and have picked myself back up out of it once again and am back where I was mentally 3 years ago because of David. Part of the reason this interview is so great is Rich Roll's knowledge and understanding of his dazzling guest, David Goggins. He is caring, compassionate and so respectful of Goggins. I'm touched by it. Thanks, Rich Roll.
I got into endurance sports because of you Rich and Goggins, Your influence is very profound and impactful. I recently put a poster up at the end of my bed of Seneca with a quote of his " the life we recieve is not short but we make it so, we are not Ill provided but use what we have wastefully". Its the first thing I see when I wake up and pushes me out of bed to train. Not takin this life for granted and using It wastefully, enjoying the process and embracing the pains and joys of training as a reminder that youre alive.
1:45:54 I remember getting so pissed hearing how bad electronics are and how they’re rotting people’s brains and shit, but now that I see myself and many other people in my life on the screens for over a 1/3 of their day, people like Goggins have a point. This is an addiction, one that I’ll start to break
This is one of the best interviews with David Goggins, maybe the best overall. You can feel that they respect each other for their Ultra-Achievements so they can talk eye-to-eye. And Rich is perfectly prepared. The knows the book, he has real questions about the stuff and Davids way of thinking, not that promotion blabla. So David reveals some things he doesn´t reveal in any other interview, the point on self-reward is gold for it really comes short in his book and in most of his other interviews. Really great stuff.
I've struggled with my inner thoughts and my mind all of my life. When I found out about David goggins I researched more about him and then found the audio book can't hurt me. This book has changed my life and it has changed the way I think about everything that happens in day to day life. I too am obsessed and driven to find out what I am made of in this life. Who am I and what am I here for. Finally someone so real and raw as David is has outlined his experience and the ways to break yourself down to find inner peace with ones self. I've also watched countless interviews with him and this one has been the best. Thankyou for taking the time to record this and thankyou to David for putting his life on record for people like myself to learn and take note of what's required to become more and a better person. You have changed my fucking life man. God bless you
I took more than a week to watch this through. Every day absorving a little, learning a little, putting some reflection from his words. It's a very complex man. Worth it. I just bought his book, gonna learn some worthy things from him and his life history.
This is my favorite Goggins interview I listen to it on repeat at work and it's been helping me through one of my darkest moments in life. Thank you for sharing.
Great podcast! It’s weird that people say David Goggins is not happy. That’s all I saw was a happy guy. He’s intense as hell, but I don’t see unhappy. Will finish the book today. It’s great.
His point is two fold. When you’ve had the happiness beat out of you, mentally, emotionally and physically at a young or developmental age, it’s extremely hard to wire your brain later for happiness. Secondly, It isn’t necessarily a bad thing as happiness is a worthless desired state for some people. You can give a kid candy and ice cream everyday and they will be happy. And die of cancer and obesity at 40. You can be a bumbling idiot happy as all heck and that’s fine but is it the energy for growth? No. Discomfort is the energy for growth.
Goggins' words rang through my ears while on the stairs. Went from 15 minutes to 65 minutes on level 19, 20 and burning 1200 calories a days, after lifting for an hour. Did this 6 days/week and went from 235 lbs to 190 lbs. I told myself: I have to go through hell everyday so that I can slay the dragon and bathe in its blood while holding its head. Thank you for the inspiration Dave.
The combo of Goggins' advice on mental callusing and Rich's advice on enjoying the moment has helped me mentally train and ENJOY the endurance events I've done and continue to do. Awesome to see these two get together, and really great to see Goggins talk about finding peace and joy.
Bed at 2am up at 5, stretch about 1/2 hour. What to watch on TH-cam for the first day of the year? I stubble across this and thank God. Rich, Goggins two great people to hear from, thanks guys for sharing.

I can relate very deeply to Goggins early life story, so whenever I hear him speak, listen to his words, read his book, I feel like I'm reading into my own story, and it drives me to take control of my own story. Many males commenting here. I'm a 65 year old female. Love Goggins. He speaks to me.
Everyone could defo benefit from listening Goggins, and as a female as well i reckon a boat of females could do with listening to this, and not just listening, but actually taking it in, without saying 'is he not a bit harsh' xxx ;)
He speaks to me too. But I'm coming from a soft and gentle life and want to do more.
I like him too, his message is very powerful.
Not juste for you..😛
I am a female also and I listen to Goggins once awhile and I have got up and learning .
You MUST get the Audiobook.

Awesome suggestion, will do. Thanks!

The audio book does rock. Words can’t describe it
Copy that
Definitely it's awesome
Goggins saved my life, when I first heard a youtube vid with him I weighed 420bs at 6 foot and 42yrs old !! 7 months later id lost 170 of those !! and turned the rest into muscle. Still running weekly , wont ever stop, but even more importantly than motivating me to change my body he helped me fix my head !!! I own my past now and no one can hurt me ever again with what I WAS, I just stand there now as what I AM Today , and that matters more.
Wow amazing
Wooooo
Lost 170 pounds in 7 months? Im sorry that's not healthy any way you spin it.
Great. Keep grinding!
Couldn't have explained this better.
I completely relate. I was never a "runner" and never considered myself athletic. I always loved how I felt after a run - it was my high, it really was. Hope you are still running and taking care of #1!
Beautifully stated!👍❣️
Try the Wim Hof method too bro, sounds like you got it figured out though so kudos to you!
Love that thought, thanks for sharing!
Great story. Congratulations.

Everybody is a shitty runner, until they start running.
Well done Bradley!!! I live in Adelaide and used to love running but I can’t run anymore due to a crushed spine.

If I put my 100% into what’s in front of me I will destroy it."
* People have to be willing to break themselves down and stop hiding.
* "Once I found out who I really was, that’s when I started growing."
* “It’s all about mindset.

Don’t worry I’m 33 and struggle to do yoga every day too!

Great to hear brother!❤💪
Part of the reason this interview is so great is Rich Roll's knowledge and understanding of his dazzling guest, David Goggins. He is caring, compassionate and so respectful of Goggins. I'm touched by it. Thanks, Rich Roll.
Unless someone can inform me but there is no one like Goggins. He never lets up, he truly always sets the example day after day, 365.....
Roll is no slacker, have you read his book? Two titans sitting there.
Rich, it's time to check-in again. Get Goggins back on!
Well put thanks
I love how he took charge of his life. His focus is extraordinary.
1:45:54 I remember getting so pissed hearing how bad electronics are and how they’re rotting people’s brains and shit, but now that I see myself and many other people in my life on the screens for over a 1/3 of their day, people like Goggins have a point. This is an addiction, one that I’ll start to break
When Forest Gump ran all those miles he was listening to David Goggins
Someone needs to set him up with Sylvester Stallone. It'd be cool to see Goggins meet his childhood hero
😁👍
Jajaja
@adamwoodhead made me lol
Running from him...
David Goggins is the reservoir of inspiration , discipline and "get it done" kind of hard work , he defines "going beyond possibilities".
Rich Roll did a fantastic job as a facilitator here. Thanks so much, Rich.
God bless you
Freak Division hey buddy ..Whatsup hope you’re better noe
God bless you brother
I took more than a week to watch this through. Every day absorving a little, learning a little, putting some reflection from his words. It's a very complex man. Worth it. I just bought his book, gonna learn some worthy things from him and his life history.
This is my favorite Goggins interview I listen to it on repeat at work and it's been helping me through one of my darkest moments in life. Thank you for sharing.
Great podcast! It’s weird that people say David Goggins is not happy. That’s all I saw was a happy guy. He’s intense as hell, but I don’t see unhappy. Will finish the book today. It’s great.
The people that say it are the unhappy ones
more grateful than happy... because he escaped his lesser self...
I agree.
I see happiness in him. He just became structure and focus.
Goggins’s interviews should be required viewing in all high schools globally
This is the best interview Goggins gave since the book came out.
Because Rich Roll is the interviewer.
"MAAAAANNNN!... FUCKING GOGGINS! " - every man, woman and child around the world, after reading You Can't Hurt Me 😂😂😂
The combo of Goggins' advice on mental callusing and Rich's advice on enjoying the moment has helped me mentally train and ENJOY the endurance events I've done and continue to do.
Watch the Matthew Walker episode of Rogan's podcast. Sleeping less than 6 hours a night can eventually lower testosterone to the levels of a man 10 years older.
@@HarryManback0 military standard is 4 hours, that's the sweet spot because that's the minimum time for regular man, or woman, to cycle through all those stages of sleep
Let me guess, right now you didn't do 2am to 5am anymore. I don't think I should analyze why, hopefully you know why!
Thought id stop by 5 years later to say thanks. It did. Went from being a sloppy bartender to a firefighter and Dad.
Thanks for sharing! ❤
Congratulations man. Same here. Piece of shit to just finished my Frist ultra 50k last weekend. Thanks goggins
No need to fear meeting God, brother. He’s our loving father, and you are committed to growth, love, and service. Thank you!
Uhmmmm....no
I’m 21, I was struggling with trying to better my mindset and mental strength and work on self confidence. this video is making me challenge myself to feel uncomfortable and think only positive. Thank you.
I JUST GOT DONE WITH THE AUDIO BOOK AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY AT 51 YEARS OF AGE THIS BOOK IS KEY TO WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. AFTER BEING SO LOST, I CANT WAIT TO LUVE AGAIN.
I can relate very deeply to Goggins early life story, so whenever I hear him speak, listen to his words, read his book, I feel like I'm reading into my own story, and it drives me to take control of my own story. I've taken two steps so far. I've started training for a marathon, and im on my 3rd week of training, it is in 15 weeks, and I've decided to make amends with some of the things from my past that I never properly resolved. Thank you David Goggins, your suffering and dedication has sparked the fire in thousands of people to face ourselves, including me.
Awesome man!
God bless you!
I Am a Marine combat vet and seriously feel Goggins life.
Thank you sir! We appreciate you brother...
The audiobook is way better than just reading the book.
"I'm making payments on my own shit". That knocked me sideways. Life goals. Thank you so much for your podcasts. Always amazing.
I couldn't even run half a mile.. now wake up and run easily 6 miles. Made press ups an addiction.. Now like david googins I run for charities to raise money
I just bought the book, put it off for the last couple of years. I read 115 pages the first day. I ran 13.5 miles in 4 days. I am back i want to get my wrestling body back. Thank you Goggins.
Be proud of yourself, Goggins gave the motivation. But you put the work in.
I do push ups every day in my office now. It’s simple and boosts my energy. #nomoresiestas
User37495936 lol as I’m reading this comment I’m in the office in between sets
My upbringing was similar to David's. It's nice to hear someone who recovered
We’re not alone.
You MUST get the Audiobook.
Nothing compares to it.
Period.
