Thank you for the info! I’m about to order my first set of supplies and really wanted to try Soy wax but saw a bunch of negative videos about it. Yours is the first one I’d say is actually helpful
Thank you for making such a clear and informative video. I’ve been making candles for years and never thought of using the inside of a pen to press down the wicks. That is such a great idea😊
You have been such an amazing help!!! I started making candles and it was just horrid, after I started watching your videos we got so much better results!! But we are still struggling a bit. 😔 But we will get there. So thank you, thank you!!
👍thank you, good info. So that’s why our soy candles don’t give off much scent. We need to burn them hotter with dif wicks. We make them just for us & we burn them only in the kitchen sink for safety. We’ve reheated the leftover wax so many times it gets dirty looking so we add a few coffee beans & it looks like it’s on purpose plus smells good.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing all this information. I am so happy that I came across your TH-cam. I've learned so much and can't not wait to see how my candles come out.
as someone who is about start making candles again after not having much time to do so in recent years, I gotta say that this video is very helpful…and obviously kitty approves 😋😎
Very informative. I won't even begin to say how much 💰I've spent buying candles at the store. I am going to make my own from now on. You rock !!😆 Thank you🌿🌻
SUPER DUPER helpful. I will be purchasing the GB 464 and some MANLY' fragrances for myself. Ironically I already have the thermometer and other main kitchen stuff.
@@taniamontufar7809 my FO didn't bind fully. Throw was definitely better though. Ended up having trouble with the wood wicks I was trying to use. Ended up moving and starting a new job so I haven't had a chance to test with the HTP wicks I picked up.
Thank you for such a great video. I believe Ive been adding my FO and pouring at a high temperature, I will try your temperature and see if that makes a difference to my candles.
thank-you so much for making these videos!😀i’ve been making candles for a little while now & i wish i’d had these as a guide when i started out🙏🏽there are so many videos out there that show methods that really don’t work in practice and/or are unsafe, but yours are fantastic! your steps are very informative & easy to follow, thanks😊
Thanks for the video! I tried making candles a couple of years ago and it didnt work out so well. I have now done more research and hoping to succeed. I'm looking forward to trying exactly what youve suggested.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.. I'll be making my first batch in a week or so following your tutorial.. fingers crossed! 🤞 Hugs from Argentina! ❤️
I've been watching for awhile now. You explain things so clearly and complicated. I really enjoy watching your ideas over and over again. I have to ask a lot of people say to warm up the containers first. Will that name a big difference if I do or do not warm the containers.
Thank you for this video. I'm new to working with wax and I suck at it so far. I'm working with the GB 416 wax, because I'm making melts. Everything you don't want to happen has been happening. The hot throw is almost nonexistent, the tops are lumpy, it frosts horribly and it doesn't release from the clamshells without a struggle. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm adding my fragrance (10%) at about 183, stirring for 2 or 3 minutes and pouring between 135 and 165. I started pouring at 145 and I've adjusted up and down trying to find the right temp.My room temperature is always right around 72ish. I want so badly to figure this out, but man its a lot harder than I anticipated. Also I had no clue about the fragrance oil eating through things. I measured out and separated my oil into small dixie cups earlier and within just a couple minutes it was all over my counter. I was so confused, lol.
On the jelly jar you used from CS they have 3 types of these jars two with a 2.5 diameter and a new straight side jelly jar 2.35 using the 464 wax would with HTO 204/93 still be a good starting point for this new jar ?
Hello @standley; I am beginer in the bussines, anda i am so glad to find you; But, i have a doubt; in GB 464 fos CS, they recomend maximun 10% of fragance oil and they says no more than 10%. DO you was have any trouble with 12% I want a big smell in my candles so this 12% it´s music to my ears :). I wait your response and thanks.
I just started watching your videos, great videos!! I have watched many videos and they suggest heating your containers before adding your wax. I am not happy with the appearance of the sides of my containers, i do add color. Could you please share your thoughts on this much frustrating subject?? I am using GB 444.
I am not a fan of heating containers, I just pour at a lower temperature. The main reason people do this is to reduce wet spots (the air bubbles on the sides) in the candles once they're done. You can reduce and sometimes eliminate wet spots by pouring at the lowest possible temperature. They form from the wax shrinking or contracting when cooling. They're tough to get rid of completely and most candle makers just accept them as part of the process. For your next batch, I would pour at a lower temperature and see if that helps at all.
Hi sir very informative video! I have a question for you. My surface is uneven and I know heat gun will solve this issue. Do I use the heat gun 4-6 hours into the curing process or it is advisable to wait a week when the candle is harden and then use the heat gun? Thanks!
I too love your videos, they are filled with such great information. However, I am so confused on the temperature in which to add the FO...so many say add at 185 or the FO wont bind with your wax. Please help! Thanks so much for sharing.
Will adding fo at such low temperatures work with nature wax c-3. Could you do some experimenting with c-3 as so many people use it. I'm using c-3 and i'm verry hapoy with looks but can't get a strong throw. Thanks and love your videos
Absolutely love your channel. Very informative. I was wondering how many fragrance selections are good for a beginner and also do you just use a day of the week to make and replenish your stock or do you continually make candles? A little bit overwhelmed with orders and I’m trying to streamline my process a little bit....Thanks !
Great video! So you’re doing 12% fragrance with your 464? I was always kind of confused about that because each site that sells 464 says something different about fragrance load. I know candle science says 12% but others say anywhere from 7-10. I usually do 9 but I’d like to try higher for a better throw if it works well for you.
J Q I always do 12 or even 13. With soy you can get away with a little more because some will be burned off as it cools. Soy takes forever to cool so I add just a touch more to compensate.
Hi, I have been watching a lot of your videos. Your my go-to video when it comes to candle making .... what’s the difference between Soy 464 and 415.... thank you for your anticipated response ....
Thanks so much for this video and listing all of your supplies! I'm making themed candles for my friends this christmas and now I can plan it out so much easier!
Thank you so very much for this video! It helped me a lot - very specific and clear info - and I can't wait to make my very first soy candles tomorrow, yay!!!
New Sub!!! I'm doing this for a hobby and I love how your kitty came in and helped ya@@@...:) i'm a crazy cat lady!!! how do I know how much fragrance to add???
Lol welcome!! I typically use 8% oil to wax. So around 1.2oz of oil to 1lb of wax. Some waxes you can add more and some require less. It’s personal preference on some. Typically between 6-12-%
I'm just getting into candle making and I have the actual making process down to the T. It's the scents. I started with essential oils aromatherapy (BIG MISTAKE) I brought some strong scents which left my sinuses all messed up making my room feel stuffy as I couldn't breathe. I'm about to switch over to regular fragrance with a more softer smell.
Hi! I watched another video of yours and thought you had to add fragrance at higher temperatures (180 F) so the fragrance molecules can bond with the wax molecules. Is that not generally the case?
Im going thru same thing. I just started making candles. Every test I have done is great but I have had 1 customers complain about the scent. I been doing it the same as you. I can't wait till my shipment of wax comes this week so I can try it this way.
Hi There thanks for your video, I have been and advance user for 5 years - but see more and more us 464 - I have tested off and on and so far hate how the candle resets after burning, they set like the surface of Mars lumpy, I have been using 10%FO initial pour setting is fine. Any suggestions please.
Ted Boyce I get the same thing with 464. The candle pours nice and flat and after you burn it it has holes everywhere. I haven’t found a good way to prevent it after burning either. I see it more with heavier oils, love spell, cinnamon, spices.
Hi.. I am new to candle making and i use 464, for my canles. I have learned plenty watching your videos. I love your lids can you please tell me where you get them from, please?
Love your videos! But I didn't catch the name of those little metal thingies that you put on top of the glasses to keep the wick in place. You do call them "wick tabs", but I find something entirely different when I search for wick tabs on google ... Help?
Hi 👋🏽 What size wooden wick did you use in that particular jar? Looks like they have small, medium and large. I have very similar jars 9oz and not sure which size I should get. Thank you in advance! 😇
Out of all the parasoy waxes you have used this far, which one seems to give off the best hot throw in your trials? I would like to use straight soy wax but they seem to melt a bit while out at farmers markets in the southern heat. The parasoy was a good compromise for me.
I’m having low HT using 464 wax and i reached out to CS and they said to try using 8% but to mix at 185 I’m definitely going to try this method and compare the two
Thank you for showing this. One of my favorite things to do is to make candles. I learned some new things in this video like certain fragrance oils do better in soy. One question though. I find it hard to clean out the container. Any easy tricks? Thanks so much. Loved this video!
Hi, I have a quick question! I have watched most of your videos on different wax’s you have used and your reviews. You were right about the 100% soy wax. I have spent a lot of money and can’t see much progress in terms of hot throw. Since I live in England it difficult to get hold of paraffin coconut blend. The only ones that are available are 100% soy, soy coconut blend and soy paraffin blend. Which one can I use for best hot throw?
Hi Jeff, thank you so much for your videos, they are great! I have a question, I am testing my jars to see how much exactly wax & FO to put in each jar. I did all the formula, and I came out for a 6 oz jar that hols 5.8oz of wax with 10%FO=15 gr of FO and 158gr of wax, but the jar doesn't get full. So, I keep trying to add a little bit of wax and now I just did 160 gr of wax but still not full at the line. What should I do? I am using the same jar you have in the video with the wooden wick ( I think it's the same, Candlescience,Medium Straight Jar. Thank you!!
Hi Jeff. What brand thermometer do you use? Amazon reviews are scary as to the inaccuracies and I'm not trusting the digital laser one I just purchased. Something is a bit off with that one. I need one like yours. Help!
This video was so great! Thanks for all the tips. I am new to candle making, and I cant seem to get my soy candles to have any hot throw! I have been using C-3 soy wax from the flaming candle company which seems to handle great. I also have been using fragrance oils from new directions aromatics, which say they are good for candle use but don''t say soy specifically. I am unsure if it is the fragrance oil I am using or if I am not using the right ratio, I was wondering what your wax to fragrance ratio is typically, and if you have any tips for me?Thanks so so much in advance!!!
Is it necessary to weigh the wax for the large pitcher? I don’t add my fragrance to the large pitcher. I usually melt the wax in that large pitcher and then i weigh the wax I need for a specific scent in a small pitcher. I am new and still testing the wicks so I’m doing it that way
This is such a great video n appreciate your detailed information. I have been afraid to make candles for years even tho I have made tarts for years. I’m. Not intimidated anymore. Thank you. Have you found that some fragrance oils are watered down? Some of the companies I’ve tried have terrible fragrance throw n seem very watered down but others are thicker n more like oil. Any company recommendations for scents? God bless
Thanks for the tips! Really helpful. I found out soft fragrances don't burn well as you mentioned👍 Now I need to try the wick you've mentioned. Thanks again!!
Very glad I found your super informative video! This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for! I am wanting to start my own candle making business and am about to order different wicks to test with my GB 464 Soy Wax in 8oz apothecary jars all from Candle Science. I do have a question though - When testing out different wicks in the same size jar with the same wax, will different fragrances & liquid dyes change the way the candle burns? Thanks so much for you're incredibly helpful tutorial!
Hi, your videos are so informative Does it matter if you add your fragrances at a low temperature? Lets say at 130f? Will the fragrance blend in well with the wax? Also whenever i have made soy wax candles When they burn for 3 hours, the wax has all become liquidy and it doesnt really look nice when its in a clear jar. Is this supposed to happen with soy wax?
thank you so much for sharing, I am a new sub to your channel, you are so clear on your instructions. I have the wooden wicks from Lone star, its definitly hit and miss when it cimes to the burn, love the crackle, but sometimes when just dont want to stay lit, have upsized and even douvble wicked, any suggestions? I also purchased wodden wicks from the wooden wick company and thought of trying the tube wick over the HTP.
mamber1974 I really want to try the tube wicks. I haven’t had any issues with all of the wood wicks I buy from Lone Star. I did get those issues with wood wicks from Aztec. I found cutting them down more they tend to light easier.
I got lucky finding you! You are straight to the point!

The low temp adds are test methods. Oils bind much easier at higher temps for sure.
Does 464 have paraffin in it and can it be use in a silicone molder? Sorry very new in candle making, appreciate the help and info 😊
Omg 😮 I’ve been making candles with GB 464 you 2 years. I add FO at 185 degrees 🤦🏽♀️my cold is great but it's a hit or miss with my hot throw.
Thanks
Hi.. I am new to candle making and i use 464, for my canles. I have learned plenty watching your videos. I love your lids can you please tell me where you get them from, please?
chantell Johnson Candle Science 🙂
Love your videos! But I didn't catch the name of those little metal thingies that you put on top of the glasses to keep the wick in place. You do call them "wick tabs", but I find something entirely different when I search for wick tabs on google ... Help?
Love the cat...what a cutie
Hi 👋🏽 What size wooden wick did you use in that particular jar? Looks like they have small, medium and large. I have very similar jars 9oz and not sure which size I should get. Thank you in advance! 😇
Out of all the parasoy waxes you have used this far, which one seems to give off the best hot throw in your trials? I would like to use straight soy wax but they seem to melt a bit while out at farmers markets in the southern heat. The parasoy was a good compromise for me.
I’m having low HT using 464 wax and i reached out to CS and they said to try using 8% but to mix at 185 I’m definitely going to try this method and compare the two
Hi, how did that work for you?
@@beyoutifullyunique03 I tried low temp method and it was GREAT
@@stacyrichardson4997 thank you! Do you still make candles?
Thank you for showing this. One of my favorite things to do is to make candles. I learned some new things in this video like certain fragrance oils do better in soy. One question though. I find it hard to clean out the container. Any easy tricks? Thanks so much. Loved this video!
The best way I have found is to pour a little hotter so the wax can be wiped out immediately with a paper towel then washed with hot soapy water.
Thank you, Great video, lots of good information.💕
Please teach more on coloring. Thank you. You teach well.
It's the best tutorial! But if I want to use jars several times, what should I use insted of hot glue?
Яна Галайчук I use RedRTV adhesive. It works great!
Help!
My sister was asking me how I was going to manage making candles with cats in my house. I guess I'll have to tell her "however this fellow does" LOL!
The Kit Tinsley Lol they’re really helpful 😂
I am new and still testing the wicks so I’m doing it that way
Super helpful! Just ordered materials to start candle making this weekend. Can I use this wax to make pillar candles?
Bianca Almedina No this does not make good pillar wax. It’s too soft. 🙂
Standley Handcrafted Thanks! Would you recommend EcoSoya 320 or any other?
This is such a great video n appreciate your detailed information. I have been afraid to make candles for years even tho I have made tarts for years. I’m. Not intimidated anymore. Thank you. Have you found that some fragrance oils are watered down? Some of the companies I’ve tried have terrible fragrance throw n seem very watered down but others are thicker n more like oil. Any company recommendations for scents? God bless
do you clean jars before pouring wax? if so with what?
Pam Kirk I don’t, I pour directly out of the box the ship in. 🙂
Thanks for the tips! Really helpful. I found out soft fragrances don't burn well as you mentioned👍 Now I need to try the wick you've mentioned. Thanks again!!
Mary K Tha k you for watching. I hope the new wick helps. 🙂
Awesome keep video coming. You explained everything well. I'm a beginner.
Newbie here thank you!!
Pretty kitty ☺️
Hi, great video...What percentage of fragrance oil you suggest for this wax for a strong hot throw?
12% is the highest...he mentioned that in the video
Hi, your videos are so informative
Does it matter if you add your fragrances at a low temperature? Lets say at 130f? Will the fragrance blend in well with the wax?
Also whenever i have made soy wax candles
When they burn for 3 hours, the wax has all become liquidy and it doesnt really look nice when its in a clear jar.
Stanley, cab you please reccomend the best soy wax for pillar candles? Something with a good cold and hot throw
Hello, I have a question about wodden wicks. Do they have to be soaked first? Some sites say yes and some say no. Thank You
