  • This video is Part I of our 8-day trip from Chattanooga up to Lake Tellico and back. We go through 2 locks each way, Watts Bar Lock and Ft. Loudoun Lock. We went through many locks up the rivers and back to Michigan last year and feel pretty confident we have worked out a good plan for us and our boat. Things still go wrong as you can see in this video. I had the rope threaded through the railing and had to recover with the help of the captain. We try to point out our mistakes and give suggestions to help others that are new to locking. We keep the boat in Chattanooga and love boating the Tennessee River. It is more beautiful than you can imagine, so if you get the chance to boat up the river, please do. We would be happy to help any other boaters so feel free to ask any questions by commenting on this video. #tennesseeriver #rivercruising #lock #greatloop

Great video! Tennessee River has some of the best cruising in the country. Great job of putting music to the beautiful scenery.

Be careful around this bridge. Back in 2016 my family did a day trip from spring city area up to ft louden dam to eat at Calhouns on the other side and on the way back, 2 out of 3 of our boats didn't pay attention to channel markers and wrecked their motors on the island's boulery sandbar.

Thanks for the warning. With Freebird's 5 ft draft we try very hard to keep in the channel.😀

Ok, I can't tell if you are aware that the commentary can not be heard. It's fine when you dub over what you are showing us, otherwise it's impossible to hear you. Please address this issue. I'm sure other people have the same issue.

Thank you for pointing that out and I do I realize there are parts of the videos my voice is low. I searched everywhere to find a way to raise the volume after the fact but no luck. The only solution I have found so far is to put text in those areas. Some I have recorded new voice but you lose the sound of the water. It's been a challenge making these videos.

How tall is your boat, 19 foot bridge in Chicago, thoughts ?

Our air draft is 20'8" with antennas folded down. We have to remove the anchor light mast to get under the 19'6" bridge.

Does your radar pick up any off the debris in the river, the logs I mean.

Can your radar pick up any debris coming down the river ?

@@rogerbaker-vo1cd Good question! The radar probably does, but watching the radar, you might miss some of the smaller or submerged logs. I think you are better off keeping your eyes glued to the water ahead of you.
