    I'm able to comment on it now that I've bought the X-E3 with the 18-55 mm lens kit. The pros are that it's smaller & lighter than the others - there's 325 focus points that perform extremely well even in challenging lighting conditions. I've used it during concerts in very low lights/extremely fast erratic moving subjects and it locks on that perfectly well. I've been very impressed. People seem to be worried about the battery life compared to DSLRs, but if anything else, I'm finding this camera last longer than my previous Canon DSLR. I've taken over 900 shots by sometimes minus 1 degree C celsius, and the battery has not let me down. I don't really care about the moving screen because my previous cameras never had one, so I'm not finding this a hindrance. I do tend to accidentally knock the front wheel out of place (the one at the top right of the camera, below the shutter) quite a bit though but other than that, brilliant handling. Also worth pointing out for those wanting to do video work: although it does shoot 4K and has a Mic port, there's no quick video button or on the dials. It's hidden inside the "Drive" mode that you have to scroll down to and remember to reset to stills afterwards. Useful to have Wifi on that camera, great addition. The lens quality of Fujinon is absolutely outstanding. I'm loving this camera, I don't regret switching to this mirrorless system. I'm now a Fuji fan!

    you should definitely tell fuji (if you can contact them) that the upcoming focus algorithm upgrade (which is present on the x-e3 and is 100% coming to the x-pro2 and x-t2) must come to the x-t20 as well!!! fuji hasn't said a word about it (regarding the x-t20), hopefully they won't leave the x-t20 to die while the ~more expensive~models of the same generation keep getting more and more love.

    I'm really struggling to choose between the X-T20 and X-e3 for all the reasons you state. I much prefer the form factor of the smaller X-e3, viewfinder placement, the joystick, bluetooth, more touchscreen controls and improved CAF. However, I really want a flippy screen! And Fujifilm has chosen not to update the X-T20 with the improved CAF. What to do...

  • @kornenator

    Okay, i do agree it would be super nice to have the tilting screen. But here's the thing... I was playing with a T20 recently, and it just feels so clumsy in the hand. It's a small camera definitely, but i can't really find a good position on it, have to hold it with two hands all the time, if i don't want to be dropping it accidentally. The E3 on the other hand looks very clean and minimalist, without the crammed D-pad it surely has a better grip out of the box. And while you can put a grip on the T20 too, it doesn't work well with slightly wider lenses like a 35/1.4 or even the 18-55 kit lens), since there is no room between the grip and the lens to put your fingers.
    So fat i'm loving the E3 design, but yes, i really wish it had a flip screen...

    I have both the x-e2 (got it for $200 mint condition on ebay). I also have the x-t20. I love the feel and weight of the x-t20 but the x-e2 is better to grab and go with a pancake lens attached. I love both cameras. I agree with you on the swipe on the x-e3 and that is a turn off for me as well. I love your videos btw...You are doing an awesome job!

    I used to shoot a lot of film in almost all formats. For 11x11 to 16x20 i used a 6x6 Yashica and 4x5 large format. I haven't shot film in years and digital is an old 6mp dslr that I take picture for online. I am looking to get into digital for fine art. Have you printed 16x20 with the Fuji X-T20? Would you hang it in an exhibit? My work is primarily landscape/seascape.

  • @cameraman655

    Great rigs both but the "deal killers" for both models for me were the fact that neither is weather sealed. As I often find myself out in the elements, cameras that can take the elements are important. I went for their bigger brothers, the XT-2 and XPro 2. I am slowly selling off my Canon setup (been a Canon shooter since '79'), Fuji has simply won me over. Not a perfect system to be sure but the seemingly have the momentum and are bending over backwards to keep their base happy and the seemingly constant firmware updates, even for discontinued models is frankly very impressive and says a lot about Fuji's commitment to their customer. Thats said I can see adding with one or both bodies into the system.

    Omar, as you may know I do watch a lot of your videos and comment, this is an older one so I hope you see this. I finally got my xt20 after a month or so of waiting and it is amazing! A tip you may want to mention on your videos, I used my visa to buy it, and with visa the camera comes with an additional year of warranty, beyond the 1 year fuji gives you. I was debating buying a warranty program through the store I bought the camera with but I never use extended warranties in the past and usually when people try and use them, there are loopholes and some things are not covered etc.. So this is a way to get basically a free year warranty just by using your credit card to purchase the camera. Anyhoo, as always, love your channel and I cannot believe your only at 11k subs, you deserve more, I am always mentioning your channel in live chats and comments on youtube.

    • @ogonzilla

    I have the X-E3 and my partner has the X-T20.
    I have bigger hands and the empty space on the back of the X-E3 is excellent for me. I’m always hitting buttons on hers. I also like not getting greasy nose marks on my screen thanks to the rangefinder placement of the EVF.
    My partner came from a Canon so she much prefers the drive dial and DSLR styling.
    The best part is being able to share lenses!

    X-E3. Like you mentioned, I also kept accidentally pressing the d-pad buttons (top and right) as I hold the camera - it was super frustrating. I had to disable the 2 d-pad buttons. So at the end I sold the X-T20.

      Josh T YES!! Thank you brother. I looked into it a little but nothing seemed amazing like how Sony/metabones adaptors work. Only some manual focus options. In the end I want to rock this kit lens!!!

    • @josht4183
      @josht4183 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Omar Gonzalez Photography I've been thinking about a switch recently due to the weight and portability for traveling and casual use. Not a professional like you :) Never thought I'd consider a Fujifilm until I saw your clips! You totally convinced me that the kit lens is great! The size, the image quality, the controls... Just look so good! But I have few Prime lens for Canon and I love them. Such a waste to change them. Apparently the adapters have no autofocus and aperture control. I can make do with manual focus, though a lazy person prefers autofocus. Hmm still in dilemma if I should switch from my 750D.

    Much appreciated, this video! I don't think swipe gestures are the right way to go with cameras... Maybe on consumer models for the young or uninvolved enthusiast (meaning someone who doesn't want to take advantage of manual controls). I love and depend on the tactile feel of the XT-2. I absolutely depend on it.

  • @PeterMKent
    @PeterMKent 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Other than EVF placement the only real differences are Tilt-Screen & Drive Dial vs Joystick & Bluetooth.
    Personally I don't think the lack of a Dive Dial should ever be a deal-breaker,
    lack of Joysticks (or D-Pad) have a good workaround with touch screen features and
    lack of Tilt-Screens requires a phone with remote view app as the only work around but
    if you need remote shooting and immediate wireless image transfers to your phone or PC than I believe the X-E3's new Bluetooth feature is the only Fuji-X choice for you.
    So it boils down to, do you want to use your phone while shooting photos or not? If the answer is no then get the X-T20, If you said yes or "I don't mind that" then the X-E3 is for you :D

    The one reason I would pick the X-e3 over the X-t20 is that the X-e3 can have shutter speeds up to 15 minutes in T mode. For star trails i would prefer to stack a series of 3 minute exposures. With the X-t20 you are limited to 30 seconds or bulb.

    As a video-centric person, I'm hoping a tilty flippy uppy/sidey version of the X series with post X-T2 video quality pops up soon. I hear there's gonna be an X80 to replace the X70 which has a flippy uppy screen, but that lineup is not lens interchangeable

    I'm heavily debating in between Fuji XT-20 and XE-3 or XT-1 with a prime lens or two. I currently have Canon Rebel xsi 450D(10year old camera), so at this point anything is a huge upgrade. I'm hoping to get better by putting a lot of time to practice and studying. I love street photography, street portrait of strangers and landscape, because I love hiking. I just love the XT1 or 2 because of the dial system and a large viewfinder. Any suggestion? I thought to get a cheaper body now and get a second camera(XT-2) when XT-3 comes out in a year which will be my primary camera. Any suggestion or what you would you do in my situation, Omar? My budget is under $1500. Thank you for all your enthusiasm, you are funny and helpful!

    fabulous comparison ; you like the X-T20 over the the X-T2 because of the Small Size, Drive-Dial ; and you will continue with it, over the X-E3, because of Flippy-Screen, Pop-up Flash, Drive-Dial, D-Pad / Tactile-Button. The XE-3 has Flat-Top (RF look), VF on the side, Touch-Swipe, Joy-Stick / Focus-Lever (like xt2 & xpro2), and most importantly, Pocketability. Thanks.

    I just bought a x-t20 for many of the same reasons. I am a semi-pro Nikon guy. One major problem , every time I pick up the camera the palm of my activates the menu usually from the weight of the lens giving enough pressure activate it or the direction buttons. Any comment or setting?

      @ogonzilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      terrym45 I originally had white balance set to the right d-pad button but removed it since it was changing WB. It’s now focus mode. Change the buttons to something harmless. Lol

      Omar Gonzalez Photography Good idea IMHO that “thing “ would be better on the left side. Would have to juggle grip to use and no in the way. Tell Nikon too 🤔 like the cheaper Nikons there is no lock on this, should be. I am learning to pick up the camera with my thumb pad more on the screen and changing my grip a little. It’s still in the way. Since I BBF I have a little more leway BTW really enjoy your videos on the camera. I got the 18-135 lens. Wanted the most versatile but that Rokinon is probably the solution to my wide-angle dilemma. I don’t see manual focus as a problem

    My professional deal breakers for video:
    Unlimited recording time = GH5, Blackmagic, phones
    No overheating = GH5, Blackmagic, phones
    Inbuilt stabiliser = GH5, Olympus
    Good enough Dynamic range = lots of brands
    Good (enough) out of camera video colours in unpredicted scenarios = Fuji? Most brands are struggling here imo..
    Good lenses = not phones ;-)
    My personal dealbreakers for photo:
    Beautiful JPEG colours = Fuji, (Sony A9?)
    Left placement of EVF = X-E3, X-Pro2 ("digital rangefinder" is my preferred shooting style.)
    Light weight = X-E3, X-T20
    Bottom line. As long as Fuji doesn't provide a camera that shoots unlimited video, I'm gonna need two cameras. I know this, so I won't be too upset about it.

    • @hausner8584
      @hausner8584 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know that they don't provide it because you need to bigger taxes on cameras that record over 30 minutes in some countries? And unlike Panasonic they don't make two versions. So it want change fast.

    Flippy flip - yep. Deal breaker for me and its why I went XT20 over something similar like an X100. If they re introduce the X70 with Xtrans 3 Id probably buy that too as I use both the X70 and XT20.

    Single shot and video are next to each other on X-E3. Drive button then opposite way since video at end. Enjoying new X-E3. X-T2 not intimidated.. X-E1 gets playtime with the kids.

    Both cameras are extremely cool, I wouldn't mind owning any of the mirrorless Fuji range. I thought long and hard before making a choice and went with the X-E3 because I don't need a moveable screen, and I wanted something as small as possible (I tend to put the lens in my pocket & put it on when I want to use it). There's a dial wheel at the front to change any feature that you like (you can customise it in the menu), so it's not a problem. I never ever use a flash, partly because most of my photography is at gigs and flash use is strictly forbidden. All of the Fujis are amazing cameras, hands down. I work in a camera store, I tried a lot of them, they all have their strengths and weaknesses, and like you say, it's a matter of what's best for you. Happy 2018!

  • @youngalwyn1124
    @youngalwyn1124 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    My problem with the X-E3 is that, compared to its predecessor the X-E2s, the new model compromises (or diminishes) accessibility and it removes an existing feature entirely. I am speaking of the electronic viewfinder (EVF) eyepoint specification: it is 17.5mm on the X-E3 compared to 23mm on the X-E2s. This makes the corners of the image depicted by the new model's EVF less readily visible compared to the EVF of the X-E2s unless one's eye is positioned immediately behind the viewfinder eyepiece. This is not possible for eyeglass werarers, hence it may be described as less *accessible*. What is the published viewfinder eyepoint specification for the X-T2, X-T20, and X-Pro2? Answer: 23mm, 17.5mm, 16.0mm(!) . As for the feature that was removed, I am of course speaking of the electronic flash. The output of built-in flash of the X-E2s was miniscule, and the X-E3 accessory electronic flash output is slightly higher, but nonetheless it was convenient to have that tiny built-in flash available at all times. The accessory flash will likely be one of the first things to be lost, misplaced, or left behind on a picture-taking outing.

      Trouble with flippy screens is it is another movable part that can break.It only takes a nudge against something solid to snap or break it.Coming from old school film cameras ,flippy has never been a thing I need,same with touch,you can get lag,it doesn't always work if wet or from continuous use with grease from your hands,it is not always accurate,specially if you have fat fingers like me :) The joy stick can be used in the same way as the D pad so that is no real issue to me either

    • @DmitryBrodsky007
      @DmitryBrodsky007 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The idea I suppose is that it is a Rangefinder camera like XPro2. So you must use it as rangefinder which means only use your RIGHT EYE so you can see with Left Eye what is coming into the frame. And if you are using it in this exact way, the camera will be pressed to your Right eye at all times and you won't need to flip the screen. If God forbid you use left eye to viewfinder (like I do for example), this camera is not for you.

    I love your videos. One thing. I actually just upgraded my XT20 to an XT2, and I am selling the XT20. Why? Because I got caught in the rain. I was doing street photography with my girlfriend in Philly and it rained. I got some great photos anyway but I was internally pooping my pants the whole time, trying to hide the camera under my armpit, under my shirt, wherever I could stash it to keep it dry. I ordered the XT2 immediately after that. I still love the XT20, but everything I loved about the XT20 is better on the XT2. Plus I found the graphite silver model for the same price as the black one so double score! I get the joystick, I get the weather sealing and since the screen is not touch, I don't get my nose changing the focus points on me when I'm shooting anymore.

    All I really want is a digital version of the Nikon FM/FM2, which Nikon isn't interested in building. (Nikon FM3? Are you kidding? It's an FE3 with too much "gingerbread" for this country boy. Plus, it's priced for Investors NOT users.) I have a Nikon D7000, though I'm leaning toward my Fuji X30, instead.Fuji X-E3? Hmm...

    Got the T20 and for me it feels a bit narrow and after 5 Month still uncomfortable to shoot with. Came from a Sony Nex6 which basically has a rangefinder set up. I realise as a left eye dominant shooter I want the EVF on the far left side of the camera body. With the T20 I'm alway poking around my right eye with my right thumb when adjusting things. I also miss the smoother body of the Sony which the E3 also has, this is much more comfortable to carry around during travels. A pop up flash that cannot be pointed upwards to the sealing is also pretty useless. I did use it quite regularly on the Sony but never on the T20. If the E3 had a tilting screen I would have ordered it already. With Fuji you get beautiful Jpegs SOOC but with the bodies there is always some compromise to make it seems.
