First saw Simple Minds in 1981 at the Odeon New Street in Brum. I had gone along with uni mates who liked them, but I thought they were great and saw them many times myself over the next few years, buying up and devouring the back catalogue. Sadly I think Brian must have just left by then, but Derek and Michael were still obviously the main drivers behind the sound at that time and for the next couple of years. The bass lines in particular were incredible and original and the brilliance of the keyboards still stands out a mile forty plus years later. Fantastic to see you involved with this, looking forward to seeing the results!
Good luck to the 3 of you. As a long term Minds purist, I'm really looking forward to what you put out this year. Those albums that you were a part of were just amazing. Such a tragedy that it didn't last. That line up from 78-81 had the combined talent and musical chemistry to be the greatest British band OF ALL TIME!
So what’s next? A reunion with Jim and Charlie coz we are all getting older. I’m 60 in march next year. Simple Minds opened my mind to music. I have never heard anything since that comes close, not even U2. I still get a buzz from Sons and fascination and Reel to Reel. They don’t age unlike me. Thanks guys. Remember it took all of you guys to make that sound. That can’t be changed.
It’s about time the real story came out and I’m happy the guys are ready to talk about this. I’m not a Simple Minds fan. I’m a Mick MacNeil , Derek Forbes and Brian McGee fan. Gaun yersels boys. You know it makes sense. New music please. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Glad to see these 3 back together as a unit again, they really did produce some outstanding work. Age never allowed me to see all of them in the same line up but, well, there's no time like the present. Looking forward to what's in store .....
Flipped over the original lineup, Brian left right after. I warmed up to Mel very quick and then saw that other guy when Live Aid aired. That other guy happened to be one of the finest bass players and helped shape two amazing albums. Things change, you accept this as you realize it is out of your control. Can't have everything the way we want. Been a Simple Minds fan for 42 years, finding much to love in every album. Very interested to see what these three have in store for us as they were part of something very special.
This is very exciting guys! I got to see the band with Mick & Derek in their pomp but never Brian. Listened to him on those early albums & live bootlegs. Immense contribution to those early years. You're all sorely missed and are all legends to us fans out here. All the best to all 3 of you! ✌️👍🙏
I went to see the Jim and Charlie show earlier this year and I've honestly not been able to listen to the band since - it just wasn't SM anymore. I hope The Minds tour Australia in the future, just listening to this has already reignited my enthusiasm for early SM and the years The Minds were the engine room of the once brilliant SM.
To me this is the true sound of the band, Last time I went see the Jim and Charlie show in Edinburgh , and they done the Complete NGD album, I thought this is dire, This isn’t the band that I listened to and went to see, back in the 80’s
SM at Princes Street Gardens in August 2023 were woeful. It was supposed to be New Gold Dream start to finish but the sound was shocking, and I walked out. They were a shadow of the former band. I would love to see these three playing the songs as they were supposed to sound. Subscribed.
Fantastic..the real heart and soul of Simple Minds right there... everything from NEW GOLD DREAM and prior to that was always their best and most cutting edges songs
I can't wait for this to see what happens. I'm more than excited that you guys have finally got together and finally having your say . Let's have some new music from you guys .I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting this to happen.
I am sooo looking forward to this Mick,Brian and Derek my absolute heroes especially Mick who influenced me in a big way to take to the piano and the synthesiser
That is the exact point. They have 30 years to come up with some crackers I'm sure. I am all ears. When Charlie played these guys a demo of "this is it" the trio were dismissive so I am expecting an album of gems... Brian and Mick left. Derek didn't get sacked on a whim. The main reason the band made it out of Glasgow is Jim's force of nature. Jim and Charlie have kept this thing alive and deserve respect. As for the credits, all albums after the first are credited to the band. No one who listens to them is in any doubt of the talent of all five contributors.
'Braw as' ,. . . as an auld 'Holyrood' punter, caught on to you guys early days, was at Glescga School of Art gig/Life in a Day promotion etc which were by far the best, and to be honest it was the music that hooked me in more than anything else. So excitin to see this and wishin you all the very best 😎👊☘💚
I was told by a well known music journalist years ago who championed Simple Minds in the early 80s (if you're a SM fan you'll know who I'm talking about) he said Jim Kerr called Simple Minds HIS band and always wanted his own way. I don't if it's true but I have heard other people talk about Kerr's ego. I hope Mick, Derek and Brian tell us the real story about Kerr, Burchill and Simple Minds.
THANK YOU !!!!!! There will be far more Simple Minds in this iteration than there is in the absolutely embarrassing Vegas nostalgia touring cabaret that is the "official" Simple Minds duo.
Original band was always great music, you cant recreate a sound four young guys hungry for success can create, of course the rest is history, sad the originals couldnt get together and see together what could be created now given you are all very talented musicians, not so sure JK would agree to it none the less. Look forward to a listen to the documentary none less i would hope theres nothing in it that could put an end to any thought of a reunion even if it were a 1 album and tour deal, positive that enough fans still out there who would snap up the tickets.
Oh brilliant... you are 95% of what is missing from Simple Minds... massive drop in interest and quality after you all left... you each took large pieces away with you...
Fantastic! The best keyboard player, drummer and bass player in any Minds lineup.
Go get 'em guys, long overdue. You were the engine room that created the sounds to my teenage years.
At last the REAL SIMPLE MINDS are back, this is absolutely brillant news !!! YES!
1:49 car reg plates are the Virgin Records catalogue numbers for SFC and S&F albums.

I am sooo looking forward to this Mick,Brian and Derek my absolute heroes especially Mick who influenced me in a big way to take to the piano and the synthesiser
Any new songs coming.
Or just reworking old simple minds tracks.
The Jim and Charlie show.
Continue to write new material and regenerate themselves.

By the way Sister Feelings Call is the most underrated album ever. I think even you guys that made it don’t get it. It started my journey on bass.
Finally back to the roots. Looking forward to releasing more songs
This means so much to me to be able to hear you guys perform together. Yesss!
Fantastic, absolutely brilliant to see you all together

Herr Kerr. Jim was the director but without the music of Mick, Derek, Brian & Charlie would be still be in Glasgow, not Sicily.
Ooooo nice. I loved you then....bangers
I'm beyond excited to see where this goes...we've all been screaming for this.
East coast gigs and new vinyl for me please
This is amazing!!!
Fantastic news...THE BEST are back!!!

Derek Forbes and Mick McNeil are so bloody cool

I would kill to see you guys in Australia. I caught Jim and his loyal gimp back in February and all it did was turn me off.
