It rewards one of the special dresses.
As far as I can tell it's a purely time-based challenge - it doesn't penalize you for missing, or reward for hitting a streak. Previous failed attempts, going by video timestamps, were at 3:20 so I just barely squeaked in (as of Apr 23, the new max is 3:35). I think part of the trick is using the momentum and continuing in a given direction, rather than trying to go back and forth a lot, since there's momentum loss associated with that. When close to the water, it seems more effective to gain speed by bouncing off the water rather than trying to fly directly upwards, since the former has a slight momentum boost. My time could definitely be improved upon, would expect to see pro manage sub 3-min.

I'm really enjoying this game to wind down with. The environment are quite nice, and the music is great. It has a doujin feel to it, in that the controls are a bit floaty, story is barebones, gameplay simplistic. The basic gameplay relaxing, but it's also quite challenging to 100% as the 'advanced' content requires a decent amount of precision. Comfy on controller too.
