- During our last song of our performance at Belgium's Pukkelpop a massive storm starts and rips through the festival. 3 people so far were reported dead and almost 70 people injured. It was a madhouse. Check out my pics of the devastation at www.djbonics.com
I would imagine this is not something you want to experience on psychedelics.
11years later still watching this event time to time..don't ask me why, maybe just to remind me how lucky we are to to this. but cheering everytime you see camera on stage filming you... Not knowing what happend to 5 other people that evening or day, you could not tell

i was on a vacation in Belguim at the time that happened, like, 2 kilometers from the festival terrain, and i was so pissed my parents didn't let me go there! well, at least until i watched the news the next day ...

I'm glad they said 'Please exit the tent'. If that tent had collapsed, it would have been hell worse. This is horrible to see. Pukkelpop is in my eyes the coolest festival in Belgium. It hurts to see that people run around as if their life depends on it. Pukkelpop, or any festival for that matter, will never be the same in Belgium.
@ohowklofrau The fact that everything remained in place just make me give credits to the riggers: the guy in this video that calm though urgently speaks to leave the tent did a great job.
i was there , at dancehall , when the storm destroyed everything. i saw discoballs falling down on people. 20 meters further , i saw a tent collapsing. Unbelievable what happened. RIP Pukkelpop 2011

3 festivals have just been cancelled in the UK due to forecast of severe weather...Respect to those at this festival, but authorities say no now
fairports cropready convention was the only festival running during the storm. they spent a whole night just securing the stage and sound tower down with massive concrete blocks and steel cables, it was still epic though
Good they cancel for severe weather. These things can go wrong really quickly. Just look at the Indianapolis stage collapse.
the Indianapolis incident happened yes due to the storm, but also due to the poor quality of the stage. it may not have happened had there been proper diagonal supports.
i was there, in the beginning it was very awesome and a great festival til the stormweather came and we all had to abbandon the festival

The tent was moving like hell , very dangerous , smartest move was to go outside en cover your head... I was there , it was crazy.
@AliceTheUnicorn Exactly. It was just the way it had to be, and no human being could have changed that the storm striked exactly at the festival area of pukkelpop. Nature can be hard sometimes, and not every time people can do something about that. R.I.P.
@JiS01 I was there myself, it wasn't possbile to go outside! There was hail, like 5cm balls of it, and the wind was way too heavy.
@TehAWAL: Outside was safer than inside, that's why it was better to evacuate.
@JiS01 Do you know how much hail it was outside lol? everyone of the inside was trying to get out while everyone outside was trying to get in.. I was at the back of the tent and never heared anybody say "please exit the tent" because of all the chaos and the noise of people screaming..
Those fools inside the tent who kept waving their arms and yelling every time they saw the cameraman on stage were damn lucky the entire thing didn't collapse on them - but of course they didn't realize the danger they were in, or that people were being killed nearby.

@Djeemiee Er was veel verwarring en onzekerheid, ook over het aantal doden, maar uiteindelijk blijkt dat er 5 doden zijn, 3 zwaargewonden vechten nog voor hun leven en verdere 6 mensen zijn zwaargewond buiten levensgevaar.

I had a same kind of an experience (not as Extreme) at the Danish Music festival, Langelands festivalen, on the last day. The storm just raged through the big stage, and i dont remember anything further because i Was Like, fuck I’m outta here.
@JiS01 Footage wrong edited. What you first see is the end, i presume. And eventualy he is a good cameraman because when the crowd cheers (seeing his camera) he evoid contact knowing the seriousness of the drama. (Oh and if you know what LOL means... perhaps don't use it here.)
on the scene 4 ppl were killed. but i'm also counting the ones that died of their injuries in the following weeks. i am not saying exactly 30 people got their limbs severd, but defenitly more then "a handfull". i have heard this from a friend of mine who was on an internship in the hospital at that time. she said that people with severed limbs were catagorized as "lightly injurd" as their injuries were not life-threating. i will believe her rather then you, no offence.
they got lucky it was only a microburst, a lot of people arent aware that in europe, the country with most tornados by number is the uk, but those are mostly very weak, but the areas with better conditions to spawn f2 or f3 violent tornados are a small portion of northern italy and all the coastal land from where the allies landed on d-day, going up up up until pretty much denmark, ive read somewhere that the historical data shows that in all of europe, those 2 areas get nasty tornados more often than other places. It could have been a lot worse, these summer festivals i dont think are equipped to deal with an emergency like that

@TehAWAL because other tents started collapsing , those tents aren't build for that kind of weather , and whe nthose heavy structures hit your head , your gone . 5 people already lost there lives , some are stil in intensive care ..

It was definately a big fault of the organisation. It was obvious that those storms were relatively strong. Each one of them in the surrounding area! You could clearly see on the radar, that a right moving storm with bow-echo signatures was heading right towards Hasselt area! That was about 15-20 min. before the downburst hit the festival! So they surely had seen it coming but they were ignorant enough to ignore it. 15-20 min would've been enough to secure most of the people
One how did they sleep if all the tents where blown away and they had nowhere to sleep unless they had a huge tent that everyone had to sleep in and two in 2011 before the festival was gonna start up 2011s pukklepop I asked to go but my parents said no so now I'm glad I didnt

And yeah, maybe the testet on "stormweather" or whatever you may call it. Nah, I don't think they did. Cause THIS was a storm, a violent one to say at least. I wanna know how they "tested" it. It is likely that violent T-Storms cause heavy winds. This downburst in Hasselt had windspeeds of about ~160km/h which is F1/T3 intensity. And it was forecasted that T-Storms in this area had the potential of such significant dimensions! They should've evacuated the place! Seriously....

It's safer to be out in the open than under a collapsing tent when something like that happens its best to go outside be in the open make yourself as small as possible cover your head and stay still was there and hey I'm still alive

this is dance hall, fuck this shit, we were so lucky that this didn't fell apart because it would have taken a lot of lives ;s at this moment i was in dance hall, i ass really freaking, everybody was running outside and they were pushing scrathing and punching to get out :s

@VoiceCollector2012 misschien een beetje overrreactie ? hier bij ons , slechts 100 km verder heeft het slechts geregend , je kan windstoten echt niet voorzien waar die gaan opsteken ! de organisatie treft geen schuld aangezien er geen schuldige kan zijn voor een natuurramp ? de evacuatie etc verliep moeiteloos , hulpverlening arriveerde tijdig , en al bij al is de menselijke schade beperkt gebleven , het had veel erger kunnen zijn. ( kijk naar duisburg en massahysterie)

Dude, you weren't there, people died and got injured. My friends got injured verry badly, one of them almost died. When 50 year old trees are falling down, then you can be sure the festivalstructures were falling down to, and those are heavy, so keep your stupid coments to you...

Dude, don't you know that they got hit by a severe storm and like, 800 people died, of which at least 60 had fatal injuries!! The guy next to me exploded, ok!! Some heads were torn off, a cow lost an utter and at least 5000 chickens didn't make it to the other side of the road. A television was also lost in the event. A total of 80 people shat their pants. So be respectful ok, cause when shit happens to us it matters, ok! When it happens elsewhere, we don't really care that much, ok dude!
