thanks for bring back my childhood memories, grew up in gowle road which was the last road that side of town, we used to climb the trees in the field shown which are garden backed onto and we could see the cars turning for haughley on the A45 as it was back in the day. Hill House we used to explore and play for hours at the back was the dump, now all covered over
Wow! Great memories. I’m a relative newcomer - only lived here for 34 years. 🙂👍 Thanks for stopping by. There’s quite a few more Stowmarket history ones on this channel. 😀
hi I just found this channel.....I went up to the old hospital site in 1988 and as you walk in it used to have a concrete base, and the bottom end where it looks over grown now used to have what looked like and orchard with some fruit bushes and apple trees, I went up there in the winter so it was much more easy to make it all out....great video
The old photo at 5:54 hit me so hard yet the photo at 6:28 could be another building? Chilton Hall didn't look like that when I was there! My memorie perhaps? 7:53 - that's Chilton Hall though you say the 'out buildings' at 8:19 have been converted. I'm recalling from 58 odd years back & on the one hand it looks like the old barn but I could only confirm that by the position in relation to Chilton Hall... I've a nagging feeling that barn was built long after I was there. This video has really stirred up old memories, thank you!
As I posted on Facebook some time back, I was in the Isolation Hospital around 1941 with Scarlet Fever. As said, we were not allowed to have our parents visit and talked to them over the fence. I was in for several weeks and my only visitor was the Methodist Minister, I think the Re. Savage. He had to be gowned up and wear a mask. On discharge, I was ducked in a bath of disinfectant and water.
Hi Don, you should have talked to me about this search - my parents bought Chilton Farm in late 60’s and renamed it Chilton Court. We lived there until late 70’s. I worked for Ken Woodward of Chilton Hall Farm in my school holidays. Got photos. Guy
Guy James Well I never did!! Often find out more AFTER I upload a video! No probs, can always do a follow up video. Do you have any old photos of it back then?
Hi Don, have you ever explored the history of 34 and 36 violet hill road? I believe my house is built where the entrance gates used to be and the house has always really intrigued me. I’ve tried to search online but can’t find anything. x
Mason Seymour Great idea! Actually the channel was supposed to be about going for an explore in various place around UK. I did this and a few other local history walks. And then we are in lockdown so obviously at the moment I’m limited to Stowmarket. But there’s a lot of great history in Ipswich and Bury too. Once the apocalypse ends I can branch out a bit more again. Thanks for watching. 👍

Guy James Ok. We can do coffee next week.

My friend went the next day and collected them all. 🙂
