    Hi don me and my boyfriend love your videos
    The pub one was so interesting any chance you could do a lost pubs 2 with all the others please i love learning the history of stowmarket i get sad when i look at all the old buildings demolished and replaced by not so characteristic ones

      Jannine Carter Thanks that’s very kind. The problem with the ones I missed out is that it’s unclear where they were. They are mentioned in old records but not there location. I can recommend the book I mention at the start of the video. Also I stuck to Stowmarket. A couple in the book were in Combs. For example, there were 2 more pubs near The Magpie & Gladstone at Combs Ford. One is now the newsagents next to chippy. The other was next to Cracknells. But most others were unknown location. Thanks for watching and your comment though. Much appreciated.

    Hello from America! I spent four years in the UK (1976-1980) while in the USAF. I lived in Stowmarket on Malsters Walk and played darts for The Magpie Pub as well as The Rampat Horse Pub in Nedham Market. I loved living there! The town has changed some but I have fond memories of the people there. Thank you for your video! I look forward to watching some of your other projects.

    I remember several of these from my 49 years in Stowmarket. My uncle used to drink in the Greyhound, my Mum's family in the Pot of Flowers, and my grandma worked in the Fox Hotel. The town was quite a different place in those days.

    Very interesting. My great great Grandparents ran The Little Welly and my Granddad was born there. I remember quite a few of the now missing ones drinking in a few growing up there in the 70’s & 80’s before leaving.

    Hello, Great Video Brings a lot of it back. Just out of interest opposite to the Railway Tavern at what used to be the junction of Prentice Road and Station Road as it was then, there was a pub there. It was open when I was a child in Stowmarket around the 1950's and 60's, But alas I can't help with the name . Thank you for your efforts !

      @@wilfredsmith The Kings Head, I think. It reopened some years back before the pandemic. Ran for a few years. Closed down again now.

    Just come across your channel and love your videos! Keep up the good work. Didn’t know that some of these old buildings round town were pubs at one point - and so many of them!
    All the best,

      @Walksandwanders  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! Great comment. Strangely, I don’t drink. Gave up alcohol and caffeine over 2 years ago. Only frequent pubs for meals these days. Quite a few more videos on this channel, quite a few about Stowmarket. Thanks for watching. 😀👍

      suffolkngood Wow! Top fan! You’re right about there not being much about Stowmarket on TH-cam. One of the reasons I’ve done quite a few on Stowmarket. Don’t know about the house on Takers Lane but I know a man who might do! I’ll ask him. Do you know the number or anything about the house? May just help us find out more if you do.

    if I remember right and old chap told me that next to the kingshead where the united church now is...it was bombed in WW2 which is why it looks "modern" in that little section

    • @Walksandwanders
      @Walksandwanders  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ict Schools It was the United Reformed Church that was bombed. The Kings Head survived till the local council demolished it in the 1960/70s
