You don’t stick with a group like that for five years without participating AND believing that what you’re doing is necessary. Blake is not innocent.

Especially given how surprised she was in this episode to find them working with humans. We know certain branches of the fang aren't above lying to their fellows and superiors

The way Roman defended against Sun and Blake easily made him my favorite character.
Strangely enough, when I see an awesome fight with good choreography, I look to the defender. To see someone defend against an awesome attack is almost more interesting to me than the attack itself.
@@arcadius2569 Same honestly 😅. Sun's style with the gunchucks puts on a lot of pressure all at once but Roman wasn't really fazed by it. Makes me wonder what his upper limits are as a fighter.
Sun is based off of Sun Wukong of the Chinese story: Journey to the West. Goku from Dragon Ball is also based on Sun Wukong.

@@drakuse7702 I mean, that's a big one to forget, but a lot of the things people get mad about them missing tend to be things you either realise later or when you're re-watching. Everyone has missed details in shows they've watched, they're usually blanks we fill in later if the show is worth the effort.

Yah they do this a few times, so if you see anyone new and don't hear a name they will always show up on the credits.
So this is kinda a spoiler 🙁. Because even though its said in the credits they wouldn't know the exact character the name belongs to...

I appreciate you guys learning the particularities of this kind of show for reactions. This is the kind of show that has lots of info and foreshadowing in dialogues so paying attention is very important, specially since they didn't have a lot of time to do it back then because of production. Thank you so much for giving it a chance, it's a very good series, can't wait to see more from you watching these :)

Gun-chucks! Sun is an allusion to Sun Wukong from Journey to the West (Are both monkeys, fights with a staff named Ruyi Bang and Jingu Bang, similar to the original Sun Wukong's staff, Ruyi Jingu Bang, His Semblance allows him to produce clones of himself. The original Sun Wukong could create clones of himself from strands of his hair, In Volume 1, Sun identifies Blake as a Faunus right away. This may be a reference to the original Sun Wukong's ability named "huǒyǎn-jīnjīng"), which enabled him to see through disguises and illusions.

It's crazy how much better in terms of production this gets from season to season. Looking forward to Volume 8 in a few days!
11:07 to 11:25 still remains one of my favorite fight choreographies of RWBY. Something about the constant sword clashing and the movement just is great to this day.
The majority of characters are based on characters of literature. Some characters are based on more than one inspiration. For example, Roman Torchwick is based off of the villain and thief Lampwick from Pinocchio while aesthetically he is based off of Alex from A Clockwork Orange.
With the exception of JNPR, who are based around heroes who cross dressed, apparently, half of which were real people.

@@watsondillon1997 Ren and Jaune, actually. JNPR were inspired by, in order, Jeanne d'Arc/Joan of Arc, Thor, Achilles, and Fa Mulan. Obviously, Thor and Achilles are mythological, but Mulan and Joan were real people.

Because he is a skilled fighter, weapons doesnt need to be complicated for you to hold off on your own
The fun thing about this fight scene being basically a single animator's effort was that Monty got a little bit carried away, especially with Penny. [At least according to what the other people on the show expected.] Which personally I think is all for the better, since RWBY is really at it's best when it is well over the top. But I don't think anyone had a more intrinsic sense of balance and momentum than Monty, which is why his fight scenes were so good. He is missed.
So glad you guys loved the first volume! Can't wait to see you react to volume 2!

Sun is obviously based on Sun Wukong from Chinese mythology.
He's from a place where it's quite lawless.
His weapons are Ruyi Bang and Jingu Bang which are Nunchaku that combines into a Bo Staff. The Nunchaku form are the only form were he's seen shooting the shotguns.
Penny is Based on Pinocchio. Her weapons are the Floating Array. They are able to form different formations to shoot lasers of various size & strength.
And I'm kinda surprised none of you put 2 & 2 together & realize that Blake & "Her male companion" from her Black Trailer were the ones responsible for that whole TRAIN of dust disappearing. That was her last day as a White Fang member.

Sun Wukong is also known as the monkey king. His most famous tale is Journey to the West.
A lot of well known characters are based off Sun Wukong, one of the most well known being Son Goku from Dragon Ball & most recently Jin Mori from God of High School.
Sun from RWBY has the characteristics & attitude of Sun Wukong, besides the monkey tail also being Mischievous, Brash, & Cocky.
Sun Wukong is also synonymous for his weapon Ruyi Jingu Bang aka Yeoui in some instances, is a Bo Staff or Cudgel that extends or grows to massive sizes. As you see Sun's (RWBY) weapons are named after the Monkey King's.
And even his Semblance Via Sun is based on Monkey King as he is able to make clones of himself. Though the Monkey King uses his hair to do so & it has multiple other uses.

@@Merilirem It's mainly because the backpack isn't present in every shot- she's not wearing it at all in Chapter 15, nor the first scene that she appears in in this episode- and in the shot where Ruby's blasted backwards by Torchwick, it's ALSO not there (before appearing a few seconds later).
So, if you've been paying attention to Penny, seen that she's not wearing anything on her back, and then suddenly there's a grey...SOMETHING there, which opens up and swords come out of...AND you've been theorizing that she's a robot, it's a pretty logical conclusion to come to that that was her back opening up.
@@kinzey2 I just find it strange because it makes more sense for it to be a backpack then for her to have a hollow cavity inside her for her swords. I mean what idiot designs a robot with such a large hollow area to keep swords in?
It may not have been there in other scenes, which is classic animation flaws, but it was there when the swords came out. I just find it strange since it wasn't until like volume 5 or 6 was airing that i first heard this conclusion was a thing. It never occurred to me because its quite frankly stupid.

Penny’s swords are intended to come out of a backpack she is wearing. It doesn’t look the greatest because of the animation budget.
Also, you should really have done Volume 1 soundtrack and Volume 2 World of Remnant reactions before starting Volume 2 - it clears up a lot of questions and things you might not have understood otherwise.
PS: don’t listen to songs for a RWBY Volume until you have actually finished the volume. I know several of you started grabbing the music for Volume 1 right away, and we can’t blame you for wanting to; but there are definitely some spoilers in the soundtrack lyrics. Do yourself a favor and restrain yourself until you’re past a volume to listen to any songs from the full soundtrack from said volume.
I don’t know everyone’s opinion on it, but I think they should watch Camp Camp. It’s a great show

In my opinion, Sun's got the coolest weapon ever. It's called the Gunchuck Staff. Also Penny based off of Pinocchio, her swords have strings attached to them so she's kind of like a marionette doll.

Cinder Fall - Cinderella (The shoes she wears with her original battle outfit are made of glass. She has been shown to fight with glass. Her emblem looks like two heels together. And then there’s the events of Dance Dance Infiltration, where Cinder goes to a ball and is advised to return by midnight.)

Thing about the white fang is that they're not a movement - they're more of a hierarchical organization/cult, meaning that whatever the leader(s) goes with is what _everyone_ is made to go with to maintain the structure

I can’t wait for you guys to see season 2. Season 3 is easily the best IMO, because of the huge tonal shift, but season 2 introduces such great characters, has some excellent music and the animation upgrade is noticeable.
If you guys are wondering where Penny weapons came from, it's her backpack. She has like a mini backpack behind her where she stored her weapons. You guys will get to know it around Volume 3

Pyrhha(female Achilles). Nora(female Thor). Ren(male Mulan). Torchwick(Alex from A Clockwork Orange). Penny(Pinnochio), etc...
Hey just a heads up, starting next Volume, there will be mini episodes showing up called "World of Remnant". These bite sized episodes are lore filler episodes that go over specific plot points or settings in great detail. You can either watch all of these (4 of them per volume) before starting the next Volume, or watch them as they naturally appear on the episode timeline. Either way, i highly suggest watching them to get more info on the show and its background.
Now Fun Facts:
Fact 1: The episode title may either refer to Blake and her history with the White Fang or to the reconciliation at the end of the episode between Blake and Weiss.
It may also refer to Blake's views regarding the fact that the White Fang were working with "scum" like Torchwick, "black and white" being an age-old adage meant to imply a clear distinction, such as between right and wrong, good and evil, or, as in this case, likely the difference between Humans and Faunus.
It may also refer to the fact that not everything is "black and white".
Fact 2: Ruby's line: "She does like tuna a lot..." was ad-libbed by her voice actress Lindsay Jones.
Fact 3: When the two Bullheads were destroyed by Penny's attack, the RWBY Rex can be seen falling along with the White Fang members.
Fact 4: In the directors' commentary on the DVD/Blu-ray, Miles sees this episode for the first time and, at first, expresses anger and exasperation that Monty had Penny cut two Bullheads in half. This is because he and Kerry had been resisting the urge to have characters cut things in half, due to feeling that they weren't strong enough to do so yet. However, he calms down and says Penny is allowed to because she is powerful.

The white fang is supposed to be a parody of groups from black civil rights era from MLK to the Black Panthers. It dances very well around the topic of racism and equality without outright “calling a spade a spade…”

My guess would be that they took what Weiss said about making her childhood difficult at face value and assumed she meant something along the lines of her father being distant / not spoiling her rather than what the actual truth of it is. The way she says it doesn't make it immediately clear that's what she's implying, and even then, all they would have to go on right now is the implication rather than actual evidence.

It wasn't made obvious before but right when the battle starts, there is supposed to be a backpack on Penny's back that carries her swords. So, no they weren't just coming out of her back; there is a weapon there.

I don't know if someone already told you, but
all RWBY characters are base on fairy tales, myths, legends etc.
For example: Ruby is base on "Red Riding Hood", Weiss on "Snow White",
Blake on Bella from "Beauty and the Beast" & Yang on "Goldilocks" (and The Three Bears).
During the course of this series you could guess all upcoming character's inspirations ^^
Well, sort of. JNPR, as far as I can tell, is based around heroes of mythological nature, half of whom were real people and all of whom were crossdressers. Which is an odd detail but one I am convinced isn't coincidental.
Someone has posted a comment about the origin of the characters in EVERY video including the trailers. Give it a rest.
