i would try an extension on the pressure washer so you can stand further back. Also, try a finer nozzle. and yes, a chain saw would be useful. You could also use a wet/dry vac with a trap instead of a sump pump. There seems to be a lot of slurry in the hole. Try a smaller tree?
I used a 12 inch diablo blade with my sawsall and worked well. I also cut each end then the middle and virbration work to split the root.
Great idea, but did you consider using a finer nozzle to cut the roots with water, rather than simply expose & wash roots to be cut root with a Sawzall or chainsaw?
I was wondering if pressure washing the dirt away from a stumps tree roots would allow better access to cutting the roots

I am a little confused at your comment. The pressure washing we are demonstrating removes the dirt and rocks to expose the roots for cutting.
