    2:08 OMG! Pork Belly…. When I started Keto a decade ago it was never really heard in the general public… I was buying HUGE packs of pork belly for pennies/lb…. Now a pack that cost me $8 then costs over $30 now…
    5:34 I also do intermittent fasting. It just naturally happened when I went keto. I found 3 keto meals a day too filling so I cut out breakfast, then eventually lunch too… makes so much more time in the day and I do eat less without feeling hungry.
    8:33 I agree… and so many ‘keto’ friendly products are not really that keto. I find it’s easier to stay keto making things home made. Learn to accept that deserts are not a necessary part of daily life… they are more appreciated as an occasional treat.

    If the frozen veggies are flash frozen, they're more nutritious than "fresh" veggies because the nutrients haven't had a chance to oxidize and be destroyed.

    Yes to intermittent fasting! I’ve saved so much on groceries since my husband and I started our keto journey last year and incorporated IF. There are so many health benefits as well.
    I’ve also stopped buying all the keto products and gone very simple with my meals. The keto products made my weight loss stall, they are expensive, and to me they don’t taste that great. I go very simple for most of my meals with a delicious piece of fatty meat, some non-starchy vegetables, and occasionally will have some cheese, eggs, and maybe a handful of nuts or olives.

    Aldi puts all their meat sales on from Wed-Sat. Don't go there on Monday or Sunday. It won't be on sale. Look at the dates that it is on sale, it says on their website. You have to click on the item and then it will say the actual dates it is that price. I learned my lesson. I spent so much gasoline money on going there on a different day and it was twice the price. Also check their discontinued or sale section as that is where you fill find what was leftover from the previous week that were last weeks sale items. Even cheaper if there are any remaining. They have some interesting keto items that no one else sells. Their ingredients are way cleaner too.

    So many steaks, ground beef, eye of round etc… it saves us so much money than buying it at the grocery store.

    Yes, to the frozen veggies, “fresh” produce is not as fresh as you think. It’s picked in a unripe state, shipped to a auction house where it sits for bidding, then is shipped to the different packers/distributors who then ship it to the stores, then it sits in the back cooler until it goes on the sales floor.

    My biggest expense for keto is buying Bubly sparkling waters. I was severely addicted to soda and still get crazy cravings for them even after 5 months of being keto. Those help me to not drink sodas. I wish I could buy the less expensive ones but they are all "sweetened" with aspartame. And, aside from it being disgusting to me, it gives me a migraine, too.

    I marinate my meat in a little oil,balsamic vinegar,baking powder and water. Soak the meat for hour or so,rinse in cold water then cook as desired. You can add whatever spices you want in the liquid as well as a little soy sauce. This softens and keep meat moist.

    I buy from Butcher Box every 2 months and am still saving money and getting a better quality product. Since there are only 3 people in the house (and I practice IF), that one box lasts us a long time. I make a lot of casseroles and soups to stretch my food dollar. Yes, you are right on the frozen veggies (keto friendly berries too) being less expensive! And last, I make my own snacks or sweet treats and that saves me $$$ as well. Great suggestions, gals!

    If anyone is having trouble getting their organ meat portion in, consider drying it like jerky.
    I picked up some inexpensive beef and calves liver, already sliced and portioned. While still frozen, I'll take a VERY sharp knife and cut slivers off of the frozen slice. They are about the width of pencil shavings and 2-3 inches long.
    They thaw REALLY quickly, so work fast to slice the entire portion, or put it back into the freezer to firm up. Cutting it thawed is messy and imprecise.
    So you now have a bunch of slippery liver slivers , and you gotta season them: Simply salt & pepper, Asian inspired soy sauce and sesame oil, Umami rich mushroom powder and nutritional yeast, whatever flavor combo sounds good. Worcestershire sauce and onion powder?... hmm, I should try that last one...
    Lay the seasoned worms, I mean liver slivers, on parchment paper and dehydrate in your dryer or oven on 145 for about 8 hours.
    Now the internet will say , they should be slight pliable.... thats for DOGS! You want these to become dry and CRISP. ( Not potato chip crisp, but crunch snap crisp) Warning, you space will smell like liver is cooking, it has a very metallic tinge to the air. If this bothers you, keep a window open. I didn't care, but It drove my cats to distraction.
    Now you have a healthful, crunchy treat that is portionable, portable, tastes like gourmet pate, and will make you the envy of all the cats. Store these in a cool dry place , where they cannot reach. I'm not kidding...

    • @Metqa
      @Metqa ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They suggest you eat one portion of liver each week. Dried into jerky like this, you can snack on just a handful each day and by the end of the week, you have consumed your entire vitamin rich portion in daily increments which seems more accessible than trying to stuff it down as a meal.
      Some folks grind it into their hamburger, you can do that too, but I don't eat hamburger daily, and this satisfies the intermittent urge for something crunchy.

  • @immgrntsrus

    My money-saving tip is to make your own drinks. I make “ketorade” with salt, ACV, and sweetener drops. I almost never buy coffee outside, and most of the time for dinner I make iced green tea with hibiscus flowers (they’re cheap in UAE where I live) and add some sweetener to that as well. If I bought all of these drinks and electrolyte powders I’d be paying a fortune, and let’s be honest, I’d be buying Coke Zero more often than something cleaner.
    I remember Laura Spath did a Q&A at an event where someone asked how she can afford to buy so much meat, and she said it well: Because she’s not buying drinks, chips, sweets, and all the other junk we mindlessly put in our carts but doesn’t actually count as food if you think about it.

    I purchase chicken thighs (with bones and skins) when they are on sale (just this weekend they were 99¢ per pound!!) I peel off the skins and bake those for absolutely delicious chicken chips! I cut up the thighs with my kitchen scissors into bite-sized chunks then freeze on wax paper-covered cookie sheets. Once frozen, they go into zip lock baggies. I marinate the thigh bones in teriyaki marinade then bake.
    I can take out a handful of frozen thigh nuggets and defrost in the microwave. Pan fry and then season to my heart's delight.

I don't usually mind but when I need the chicken meat that can stand up to a curry, etc I'll get out my kitchen scissors. You don't have to be very good at it. My dog likes the bones, so he gets most of them, but I've also saved them, chucked it in the slow cooker, and made stock, too.

    As my freezer compartment in my 16 cubic foot fridge is quite small fitting my tiny kitchen, I got a small "garage-ready" chest freezer for my enclosed back porch. The "garage-ready" aspect means it is able to get to correct temperatures when it is sitting in 0-100 degrees Fahrenheit here in the cold northeast, which means right now it isn't for it is -6 at the moment. I can then take advantage of when chicken thighs go on sale for $0.99/lb, get that extra turkey at Thanksgiving when its $0.69/lb, freeze the nut flours and seed meals, etc. I also bought a Pur water filter for my tap. One way to save money on expensive keto condiments is to make them yourself after getting the ingredients on sale - most are quite easy to blend, stir up or simmer while you are doing other things in the kitchen.

Mainly I buy Almond flour, coconut flour and egg white protein powder to make PSMF bread for my husband. I also buy powdered butter and beef gelatin. • @learntocookketo
    @learntocookketo ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My suggestion may not be popular but it is money saving. DONT GO TO ALL THE EXPENSE OF BUYING A HUGE FREEZER!! They are very expensive plus the electricity cost makes it less worth it. Unless you only keep what you will use for the week in the freezer part of your refrigerator, it could all end up with freezer burn. Try your hand at canning. There are lots of canning channels here on TH-cam. You can keep meat canned for a long time if you do it right. Veggies too. Then when the power goes out, you won’t be worried about food spoilage. Use glass canning jars for your spice storage too! It is incredibly handy and air tight. Make sure to label and date everything. I buy sticking labels for my jars. Labels go bad after being in the freezer for a while.

    • @Metqa
      @Metqa ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a great suggestion. I wanted to start canning but all the canning recipes were for high carb beans, rice, potatoes, garden surplus, but I wondered about meat. Apparently you can can ground beef and chicken raw. That is a game changer. I need to make the investment in a pressure canner because I don't think my pressure cooker will suffice. I'm jealous cuz my mum, who ignored my "wild ideas" for years, suddenly took up fermenting and canning when she retired so she's got a head start LOL.

      I wait for the large bag of frozen wing flats to go on sale once a year or so. Its cheaper to buy the flats and drums together, but that just my preference. IMO, wing tips are a waste to cook as part of the meal, very little meat, all skin and bone. I save them to make gelatinous broth.

    Great ideas ladies. I am so excited about this video. My sister is considering keto and this is a perfect video to send to her and get her started. I've also recommended your TH-cam channel and recipes. Y'all are the best.

    All asian recipes call for chix thigh as they are more flavorful. I used to use breast as I was a fat gram obsessed chubby gal🤣. Oh, and let's not ev n discuss the pork belly I eat while wearing a size 2 jean 🤫.LOVE you both💗🎊❤️👍

    I am bad but....When buying fresh broccoli I snap off all the excessive stalks that I wont eat and really adds to the cost.

      No, no, no! Keep the stalks and eat them raw. They are better tasting than carrot sticks!

    • @Metqa
      @Metqa ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stalk is great to add to stir-fry. If you veggie peel the tough skin, the inside is So tender, and crisp. Slice it thinly like baboo shoots.
      Yknow, if they sold just broccoli stalks, at a discounted price, I'd buy 'em up!

    Oh and a question on your indoor grow system - are the veggies and herbs you harvest flavorful? I've had some hydroponically grown herbs before that had no flavor to them. I'm interested in the systen you have (just looked at the link you provided, thank you!) but wonder about the taste of items grown in it!

    • @technicallyketo
      @technicallyketo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! everything we've tried has been delicious so far, but this is our first time growing hydroponically so we have nothing to compare it to! -Em

    Ugh, the Brownberry Keto bread is awful. It won't brown when toasted, and turns into a crouton. Found so many good Keto bread and other recipes on YT, and got all the ingredients locally at my grocery store (Not Amazon, yea!)
