AGREED. Love how a true professional, legendary player stresses the "for me" part without making judgemental, generic and foolish declarations using the idiot word "best". So totally unlike amateur players online who insist on preaching that their preferences are "best" for everyone and then actually fighting with people who dare to disagree with then.
Alex is an absolute gem. World class player, incredible charisma and just has so much fun. Is playing great right now. Was a blast watching him at the Derby
@@Isuc_at_poolgolf now it is … yes but he used a Schon for years.. He won the world title with it… I watched him play many many times in person with it as well… Don’t know when he switched
Terrific video, Karl. I like all your videos, but the details from Alex in this one are super interesting. The best "What's in the Bag" yet. Keep up the good work.
A couple of years ago, I attended a pro-am tournament in South Carolina with a couple of my Filipino pool playing friends. At the end of play the second night, a wealthy backer challenged Alex to play the ghost in a race to 17 for $10,000 with 13 balls racked and Alex pocketing balls in numerical order. Alex won with a score of 17-13. The fat cat then challenged Alex to go double or nothing on the flip of a coin. Amazingly, Alex accepted and lost the toin coss and the $10,000 he had won from playing the ghost. Alex just shrugged his shoulder and smiled, like winning or losing 10 grand on a coin toss was no big deal. I will never forget that night.
I was watching him play snooker a few weeks ago on TH-cam from some years back. The wee man is a player! His pool form recently has been very good also. Filling in Filler a few times.
Such a lovely fellow. Excited to see how he might improve the Taom chalk, that stuff is incredibly good and the best value for money! That Purple Heart jump cue is also pretty spectacular. Great stuff Karl!
Wow. And people dogged me for bringing a different cue for force follow shots and another cue for draw based off the weight and balance. Alex always been the man with the knowledge and spirit
Everyone is slightly different, so as Alex clearly said several times, this is what works for him. A steel joint and thicker shaft for one pocket is contrary to what so many "experts" claim. What is important is that every player should try as many different cues as possible before spending thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer pool rooms offers high end cues and most won't allow you to chalk the tip when trying out a new cue. Some online sellers have figured it out though and offer 30 or 60 day trial periods and only charge a small restock fee. That is far cheaper than spending $$$ on cue after cue searching for the one that feels best for you.
Alex is awesome. Met him once at Buffalo's in Louisiana. Would love to see him play in person again. Hoping to meet you one day too, Karl and watch you play in person.
My personal favorite all-around player. I wish much success. The video commentary sounds really interesting. Thanks for the vid, karl, great as always.
i have several queues too. playing over 30 years i haven t found the one who does it all for me. like alex said. 9 ball or a very slow cloth i play my havier and longer queue with a parcial hollow shaft. straight pool and one pocket very thin (11mm) tip ,light queue. with this one i really think i almost can control every rotation of the white ball. my friends call me crazy, so i am glad that alex gave me some kind of absolution;)))
Super interesting! Just the same day that my favorite cue maker is telling me about his brainstorming with Alex prod team this video comes out! Some great quality is just around the corner! Good luck to Alex & sincere kudos to Karl for another awesome video!
One key takeaway...Alex didn't spend 50 hours looking for a break cue. He tried his friends break cue and liked it better and the rest is history. He was already breaking well, but later found something better. Cool stuff.
I love this. Interviewer is like,” How hard is the tip?” He answers I don’t know. Then How much is the diameter of the shaft? “I have no clue. I just test it out till it feels just right. How much does your one ball pocket cue weigh? I have no clue. LOL. That’s awesome. That’s the best way to test it out. Different brands react differently regardless of specific sizes. He doesn’t set anyone one cue to any specific size or weight. He goes by feel and results.
Respect to the preferences but Efren is (was because he finished 3rd this year) the God of One-pocket but uses his normal playing cue. But again, Efren is the GOAT, the most adaptive player I’ve ever seen. I just gotta say not all people are like that, some people need different preferences, I guess Efren was born different (LUCKY!?)
Wow, thanks for this Karl. Been wondering what's Alex's arsenal since oftentimes I see him use different cues from time to time. So basically he's not affiliated with any brand. PS Maybe you could do Soufi's next...☺️☺️☺️
Great show again Karl. Next time you need to refer and mention Alex as a pass World Champion so people dont get there panties in a wad iykyk lol.. j/k on that as we all already know. Keep up the good work pal.
He seems a great guy. Though, i am confused on his logic for which cue he uses. I always thought cues with a steel joint are the hard hitting ones, better for moving the cue ball more in 9 or 10 ball???
@@Kierron85 The tip names definitely makes it confusing. Boost, Grip Hard, Hybrid Max, Premium Soft. Im pretty sure thats their Premium Line in order of hardness.
Keep in mind, those cues have beaten all the world class players at one time or another. Like what he said about the softer tip for One Pocket. Him and Efren are favorites to watch playing One Pocket. Now you know the key to easy spin.
The world needs more Alex!
Agreed, the best guy for sure

A new Taom chalk soon ? I am so intrigued. Can it be better than the V10 ?
V11 lol

Alex pagulayan just a beginner player in filipina
Sup alex miss ya buddy. Miss going on the road with ya.
Might have to rob Alex or trade him I been falling in love with the Purple Heart always been a favorite
Why
Wow we got an accidental lesson in equipment
The Zan Hybrid tip is supposed to be hard in the center and soft on the edges. That's why it only comes in one hardness.
I think its more the layers close to the ferrule are harder but not 100% sure.
@@dominickiraggi1160 the Zan Soft is great! I thought about getting the hybrid max but it just confused me so I stuck with soft.
