Tried doing the Topaz photo AI process workflow, but couldn't get it to save directly back to LR. Then I realised, I should probably follow ALL of Brian's instructions. Works great. I love this upgrade. As a side note, if you don't save to the original format a couple of times you don't get the "Finish" dialogue box anymore, it goes to another dialogue that asks you to select where you have saved the file to import it. To reset this you have to go to Preferences, in LR, Interface and then "Reset all warning dialogs". Just in case you were silly like me and didn't follow the instructions correctly.
That's a great point - I was going to include that, but didn't want to confuse people by taking them too far down the rabbit hole. So thank you for covering that, John!
A brilliant brief summation of 5 key improvements. I only wish they could make some form of smart album for local. Impressed with Topaz and will take a look at that now. Looking forward to associated videos to come on other updates! Thanks Brian!
Most useful session about the great updates to Lr. The round-trip settings for Topaz plugins caused me some initial confusion (Nik worked fine) but all is now clear. Thanks.
This is a great tutorial. Having this functionality will be a game-changer! I'm waiting on Photo AI 4 to launch before I purchase. If you have Photo AI do you need Gigapixel? Would love to see a comparison video. Thanks!
Excellent presentation! Are all of the photos that you processed Smart Previews? I require full resolution output. Thus I use Lr Desktop only to make albums that I can share with others for screen viewing (slide shows) only. Thanks!
That's very nice :) I still don't use so much Lightroom Mobile but I would like to integrate in my workflow, especially with the iPad I think it's a great addition. But my main issue with it was not the Smart Albums/Collections, but rather the lack of Color Labels... I use Color Labels as my Status Indicator in my library since wayyy before Lightroom Mobile existed. - Blues are memories - Purple are edited memories - Yellow are original files to be edited externally - Green are final edited files ready to export - Red are images that have a higher privacy ranking (like nudity or anything that shouldn't be shared publicly) And within those color label, my start ranking is a ranking of the best pictures. Without Color Labels, I simply cannot manage my library as I don't know what is the status of any of my pictures 🙄
Yes! Being able to continue working on something when I'm away from home would be nice. There are still certain things I won't use the cloud for (like birth stories), but travel and landscape photos I don't mind. I did pause on the filter selection to look for color labels. That doesn't seem like it would be hard to add as an enhancement, but what do I know?
I really enjoy Lr and the speed and convenience that come with it. The one and only thing that will make me jump ship from LRC is Auto-Stack by Capture Time. I do real estate photography with bracketed images. Lr doesn't have that feature, and it is cumbersome to group all photos that I've taken of a property manually. Once that gets added, I will jump ship!
Nice additions, but LR Desktop is still not on par for me to LRC. I am missing hierarchical keywords, all the plugin support and some of the management functionalities. But if these things don't bother you, LR is a good contender.
I don't know what's been holding me back from leaving LrC, but this might be a game changer. I love organization! Smart Albums are fantastic! I'm currently updating Lr and will add it to my task bar.
It's not worth the migration, Smart Albuns is locked on Local files, only works on the cloud so you need to pay your kidney to adobe to use HUGE cloud storage or it's useless for anything bigger than a hundred RAW files.
Great video! In the example of the bird image where you removed 3 different leaf areas, will that count as 3 credits or 1 credit from your monthly allotment of generative credits?
Great vid question will Lightroom AI noise reduction work on photos taken with Lightroom camera also or does the existing noise reduction that is already applied suffice or override the AI noise reduction. Thanks
Very cool features….now I am really looking forward to what changes and or improvements have been made to mobile. I just downloaded it (along with all of the other updates on my Mac).
I don’t see much of anything for iPad. I was waiting for this before udating my old 2018 iPad Pro, but don’t see anything that makes me do that upgrade. Such a shame that Apple and Adobe have neglected what is fudamentally a great tool for editing - the pen and touchscreen. Lightroom for iPad remains intentionally crippled.
@@stewartlogie Yeah, “Crippled” seems to be appropriate. I did a deep dive (honesty I should not have had to do that) but there is no iPad support and if you are not rockin’ a pro-level iPhone (I have the 13 mini), you are SOL. My flagging support for Adobe went off the cliff an hour ago. You, know, it’s not so much that there is no support for this function on the devices I currently own, it’s the fact that they mislead us into believing that this update was ready to go for all. It’s almost like Adobe is giving all of us scrubs who do not have the “latest and greatest” in tech, the big 🖕. Had they been upfront, I would not be fuming🤯🤬. Very disrespectful of Adobe, no wonder they are seeing a mass exodus.
Brian have you found any way to remove an old or unneeded link to edit in a third-party app? I have tried with no luck and adobe support had no idea and seemed unsafe that the function even existed. Thanks
Are you seeing the new quick actions in ipad? The version info says it should be there but the quick action icon is not there and there is nothing for it to turn on in Early Access
@@brianmatiash wonderful I have been doing this process, rt click, edit in PS, automate, pick photo AI, do want needs to be done, export to PS, save as a DNG, is this better or the new process, thanks
@@brianmatiash are there specific apps that work with this feature? Or is it just any photo editing app I have on my computer? And, I'm assuming this isn't available on mobile? since most apps that would be useful with this are desktop based anyways.
Looks like 8.0 removed the ability to turn lens corrections off once they are on. On photos where I have turned them off in the edit, once i turn them on, I can't turn them off again, instead having to cmd-z it. It does allow for distortion control still, but CA and Vignetting control has been removed. I don't really care about CA control, though some might, My main issue here is a vignetting control, where there is a slider but I don't have control over it, it's greyed out.
Does the authenticator (content credential) you mentioned 14:30 onwards have the same set up in Lightroom Classic, or is it a little different? I can not find any mention of it or how to set it up in Lightroom Classic.
Hi Brian, the ability to edit in 3rd party apps seems quite limited in its use or, at best, extremely awkward. While Topaz AI and Gigapixel AI allow saving to original album, other apps such as ON1 and Luminar Neo require you to select a specific folder location for saving rather than just specifying 'original'. As such, you would have to save to a local folder then open it in the Local browser in Lr and copy it to the cloud folder. Am I missing something here?
Hi again. I've found a solution to this. I created a folder on my desktop titled 'External Edits for Lightroom' and when I've finished editing in Neo or ON1 I export to that folder ( i'm doing the same for Topaz as well because I find it seems to be hit and miss). Back in Lightroom, rather that hitting save, I hit Browse and then select the file from the folder on my desktop. So far it has worked flawlessly with the different files and apps I've tried.
Nice to see these updates, although nothing big IMHO. Just sorry Denoise AI did not come to mobile, as that is the update I really want. I can’t believe it would not work on an M4 iPad Pro, as works on much less powerful laptops. I now combine Lightroom mobile with Classic to do what I want. I import on LR desktop to Adobe cloud, which then syncs to Classic (as well as my iPhone, iPad and even Vision Pro), I add GPS location data in Classic and allocate to collection, both of which then syncs back to Lightroom desktop and mobile. I then have a copy of the image on my MacBook (8TB) and in cloud to edit on any of my devices. Recently I have enjoyed editing in Vision Pro which uses the iPad app. The edits then sync back across to all devices. A setup that works for me.
I'm getting terrible banding/posterisation when applying noise reduction to HDR images. Previously I'd apply noise reduction to each bracketed image then run HDR, with great results.
Thanks Brian. Your course persuaded me to move to Lightroom from Classic, and I haven't regretted it. These new features are brilliant. Thank you for the clear demonstrations.
I just did the new update for Lightroom Classic and I'm getting the "some of your masks need updating" message. Unfortunately, I've tried using the bulk update option through LIBRARY - PHOTO - DEVELOP MODE - UPDATE AI SETTINGS, but this is not working. Do you have any information on how to resolve this so I don't have to click on each photo and hit "update all?" This issue is infuriating. Thank you!
One would imagine (hope) that smart albums will eventually be able to intelligently set the filters automatically based on the name you've given the album.
I watched your video, then tried to play with it in my copy of LR. Unfortunately it seems that the whole upgrade is only half cooked. Examples: I tried to create smart album with all photos with ISO 6400 or higher. I was unable to do it because LR does not support 'higher than' or 'less than', I had to specify exact value of ISO. Another problem is with external editors. I moved photo from LR album to Topaz Photo AI, then followed all your instructions. The resulting photo was returned to LR but not to original album?! I had to find it in all photos and then manually copy it to original album. More problems is with LR mobile. Adobe implemented excellent quick actions only to iPhone. I could not find this function on iPad. Why? iPad is much better designed for photo edition than iPhone.
Another update and this its not fixed yet: "The graphics processor has encountered an unrecoverable error". After Camera Raw 16.2 this error still presists. Camera Raw 16.2 and before works fine! Just check the adobe camera raw forums. This is so sad...
Please could you help me, I have some key words on photo's like Blue Jeans. Now i want all photo's except the blue jeans ones. How do i proceed? Because if I use the keyword tag I only see the Blue Jeans, i want the negative result of that. So 'is not' Blue jeans instead of 'is'. For the love of my life I cannot find the answer.
A fair question. Lightroom Desktop is different (but very much the same) as Lightroom Classic. I focus on helping users in the Lightroom Cloud-based ecosystem. But there are tons of great educators helping Classic users, too.
I work on the Lightroom team at Adobe and memory leaks is something I’m very interested in. Can you let me know what tasks you’re doing when performance slows down (or the app crashes)? And which machine are you using?
I was waiting for color Labels. And Denoise and Panorama/HDR on Mobile Devices 😢 okay, smart Albums, good. And this syncs to LRC smart collections if the Pics are online? Also, new LRC online Collections out of online Collection Sets should sync to Albums in Folders! This is a must. Every Time i have to sort it. Btw, and when it syncs, kick the wrong Names and set the right ones. I dont understand why this has to be different. I bet, stop LRC today and Adobe loses all Classic users. They can never stop LRC. Kill LR and set LRC as the new LR. So Adobe can concentrate on one Desktop app with the Full Desktop Team or save Money. Its that easy.
