Good review! Very informative. Seems like the revised geometry of the arena and platform solve the back and forth situations you mentioned, which were very anticlimactic in the original. The inclusion of the champion's belt for 2p also seems like a very nice idea. The only concerns I have so far are balance (that bat arm seems RIDICULOUS), construction (how does the whole thing stay together? Are the pillars glued?) and storage (will it come in a box where you can store all content so far?).
Great question! My copy being a prototype is glued, and even in its prototype state it held up pretty marvelously. The platform is on 4 pillars you can't see and then the red pillars also slot in providing additional support. I'm not entirely sure what the final construction will be, but I imagine that it'll be fairly solid.
This really helped, I don't have Kabuto Sumo and I can see how this would sort out the 'to me, to you' of the circular board. Think I'll back this and try and pick up expansions later (hopefully there won't be the supply issues some Kabuto products have occasionally had).
looks like so much fun - i think we'd like both versions, but if I was just getting one, I might lean to the new one - thanks for the great review! In your opinion is the higher backer level that includes real wood/lazy susan platforms, kabuto sumo sakura slam, and the swarm expansion worth it? I guess it's just a matter of how much we think we'll get out of it, but thought I'd ask what you think - thanks!
You're very welcome! There is going to be a kickstarter for it very soon. Here's a link: www.kickstarter.com/projects/boardgametables/kabuto-sumo-sakura-slam
I have been eyeing this as an entry point to the Kabuto Sumoverse. Mostly because it seems to address a lot of the quibbles people have with the OG. Would you agree with that? Or is the OG still a better entry point? (Experienced gamer)
For an experienced gamer, I think this is the better standalone. I love the original and though I recognize the occasional stalemates (largely addressed in the expansion), Sakura Slam just does more to prohibit the biggest "faults" of the game.
@@TheCardboardHerald Thanks so much for the honest opinion! I backed Sakura Slam. If it goes over well, I'll very likely grab the original game and Total Mayhem. Thanks again for all your great videos on this game and others!

When does it release? Can you provide a link to their site? Looks like a game my family would also love. Thanks for the review!
