I think it’s way more complicated than that. For example, currently dc is killing it in comics/video games. Marvels moviea are better. Fare supiorior; however, dc has the potential to tell some really great stories. Marvel tries to keep it pg by going the pg-13 route, while dc should embrace a rated r approach, since their best stories tend to be grittier. This could change with the introduction of the X-men into the marvel universe but idk if Disney will let marvel display darker movies (I know this isn’t 100% true, marvel movies due tackle a few darker topics, but by in large marvel shoots for the bright colors and interludes of comedy far more than dcs current movies. Thus appealing to children.). Dc also needs to get its shit together, fire Zach Snyder (he makes horrible movies but it’s great at making scenes. See 300 and Batman v Superman), slow down its story telling (I under stand the impulse, but there is no need to catch up to marvel. Before making movies like “the justice league” you need to flesh out the dc universe. Essentially world building.),, and not be afraid to make one shots and more weird stories. I.e. similar to wonder woman and characters of the dark justice league. Idk why audiences want one or another to fail. They both have a potential to make great stories and show great films (disclaimer: I do have bias towards dc).
