Someone else decided to copy and paste my comment below, hence this is a duplicate. Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Erin Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990; he eventually moved to Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue; subsequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada, for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition.
Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel; if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Ren's YT channel has less than 1 million subscribers, while his videos have garnered millions and millions of views. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available.

Ren has contemplated suicide before, he wrote a song which tells about his thoughts as he went through it. At the end, he switches to what happens to those left behind as he describes his feelings after one of his best friends commited suicide. The name of the song is “Suic*de” here on youtube.

Beautiful reaction and welcome to the RENaissance. Ren is different in all ways good. It is difficult to near impossible to put him in any one genre. Ren does not block his videos, he actually encourages reactors to share in the monetization on YT. He has done multiple interviews with other Reactors as he is 100% independent and trying to make a go of it. As I am sure you will learn from many comments that Ren's life has been a hard road, he really was, and still is quite ill. His music touches the soul. This video, and many of his others was a "1 take", start to finish, the only cut being between the song and the spoken word poetry at the end. It is stated it took him four tries to get this take. New Sub and I look forward to many more Ren reactions. New sub ... much love!

This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet.
The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

No words necessary, your eyes said it all. Welcome to the Renaissance; you're among friends who understand the shocked silence of listening to Ren's performances all too well. I highly recommend Chalk Outlines (live), The Tale of Jenny and Screech (FULL), and I Shot the Sherriff / Road to Zion / Hip Hop (there are multiple versions of I Shot the Sheriff out there, but trust be: the "correct version" is the one with Ren in bright red suspenders). P.S. If you do the Tale of Jenny and Screech, it's important to do the FULL version (~13min) not only because the fans look for it, but for you and others that haven't seen it, there are some important subtleties that are often lost when splitting up the trilogy intho multiple videos.

Ren Gill is a modern day poet, artist, musician, and even more - a savior. How many people with mental illness has he connected with and given hope? 1 in 5 people in America are reported to have mental illness (how many self medicate?). 1 BILLION people worldwide. I have been blessed to have met tens of thousands of people over the years. I am here to tell you that number is double or triple. Our society and government creates chaos and poverty. The struggle is real, and we have a new voice of hope for those lost in the darkness.

This is live and is a one take a lot of Ren music is done live and are one takes he play piano drums write his own song and he does his own beats ere is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition.
Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition.
Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel, if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Ren's YT channel has less than 1 million subscribers while his videos have garnered millions and millions of views.
Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. Ren has exceeded his initial goal. However, his goal was very conservative and did not reflect the added costs of unforeseen surgical procedures, and treatment for additional health issues such as MCAD. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity

I notice that you shared my comment, or rather "copied and pasted" it verbatim. All I ask is that you remove the claim that you did the research by simply replacing "I gathered" with "someone gathered;" no need to credit me. I just don’t want people to think that I am the one who simply copied and pasted someone else's work. Thanks for your understanding. Btw, Ren has asked people to stop contributing to his GFM page because he has already surpassed his goal. Instead, Ren posted a link to an organization he supports and asked that people contribute there rather than to him.

I think my favorite thing about this reaction is in the beginning it feels like you're very aware that you're filming a reaction and making sure to emote to the camera your feelings. A great reaction Kathryn, you have had a similar reaction to most of us as we have discovered Ren. With his music, his lyrics, the story behind much of his work to date with his illnesses and the passing of a very dear friend of his by their own hand. That was a great genuine reaction. Thank you! You were visibly engrossed in the performance, and like many of us, blindsided by the visceral truth of the message, and the passion with which it was delivered. It is inadequate to say that Ren is a once in a lifetime personality, and yet i can find no other way to classify his effect on me. This performance was recorded live, in one continuous take, with multiple cameras set up in the room, and it's so impactful and meaningful, that i can't imagine a better production method for it. He bares his soul for all to see, and it is beautiful, and courageous, and strong, and persistent, and i am here for it.

The whole song makes me react very viscerally. I can never control the tears that come when he hits the crescendo, "So cower at the man I have become when I sing at the top of my lungs..." I anticipate it and it knocks me on my ass every time I hear it!

@KathrynLayneReacts, I saw someone else already mention it but just to make sure you notice the comments that you don't need to change the original video. The effect that you put on the video changes the aesthetic and Ren is an independent artist so he wants his videos shared because he appreciates the exposure he gets from content creators providing their thoughts on his art. Also, when you change it, it's something different. Is Shakespeare still the same in Mandarin Chinese? Probably not.

We as consumers and fans of his music and his message need to push his channel he should have millions of subs on his channel this is a crime he's saves people with his music or at least helps them by them opening up and talking. Whenever I'm a little bit tipsy with a few drinks in me, I often end up listening to music and then watching people react to my favorites. What has raised your reaction above maaany others, is how you've actually placed the camera close so we can actually see your emotions when you react.
Heh, that sounds a little bit creepy written out loud, but it's really cool to see how you actually react even without words to such a powerful song!
Thank you for the reaction :) Also find your voice (and the mic quality, that lipstick ASMR was quite nice even if I hate ASMR lol) a very pleasant bonus.
    Edit:
    As for the song,
I think the chorus of hope he ends on and the speech at the end are pure gold. I have now suffered from anxiety and depression for near 20 years and I just surpassed 10 years being single and my 40th birthday. The last decade I have talked to my parents (dad passed of cancer 7 years ago), my sisters and therapists... but what Ren says at the end that the "dance" gets softer and therefor easier once you accept your mental health struggles the older you get, that it does get easier to live with. That is SUCH an incredibly important thing for any young person to hear. It won't stay as difficult to bear if you bite your tooth and keep going.
Even if I am alone and miss the person I used to be, without friends or a relationship, I have found an immeasurable amount of things in life that I enjoy all by myself that are absolutely worth it. Life is such a beautiful thing and it should never be wasted for a single minute. We live, by an absolute miracle, somewhere in the void on this planet at a time seemingly being the golden hour of humanity after atrocities committed and before resources depleted. We have nothing here but to appreciate every single breath, scent, sound and sight and we can all make our experience valuable in the way we wish, even if no one else supported it. (Given it comes with not doing it with anyone elses expense.)
I hope this comment reaches at least someone and I'd be really appreciative if you said hi, especially if you're dealing with similar issues.
(I hope YT doesn't autoremove due to the many problematic words... often happens these days......)

This piece of art should be used and shown in psychiatric treatment and mental health clinics all over the world.
The therapeutic message this can and Will have on millions of people is the greatest legacy Ren will leave behind.
The way Ren portray and deliver this inner struggle visually, sonically and lyrically are so good that no matter what walk of life we come from or how severe our struggles may be, every single human being on the planet can relate to this on some level.
His ability to transform the personal inner struggle and show with a biblical archetype how it is part of the human condition across all of time really cuts straight into the soul.
I'm not a religious person by any standard, but the message is so undeniably accurate and true that you can't but tear up when you realize the scope of the tragedy that is our human condition.
It's a hard thing to accept, but when we do life becomes easier.

When Ren's video popped up on my recommended list, I saw that it was fairly popular, I saw a guy with a guitar, wearing a patient's gown, and I thought it would be something interesting. I didn't know that this song would full on kick me in my being. I felt every word. I don't have issues with autoimmunity, but I've always had that inner doubt, that inner self-loathing. While I'm not a religious person by any means, I truly felt these words, these notes, and these chords deep, deep down. I was born in 1982, but I can't think of a single song that makes me feel more seen, called out... or more recognized and hopeful that all the pain, all the confusion and suffering... it might have been FOR something. I don't mean in some cosmic or religious sense. I mean that the things I've felt, that I've endured.. Maybe I went through all that to make my life better, and that maybe I could use it to make someone else's better as well.

Next Ren song: “Chalk Outlines” - live Ren & Chinchilla using the acoustics of what appears to be a basement of a hospital.
Utterly amazing! He is a true bardaugh (bard in Anglo-Saxon influenced English we now use) He’s Cymry or Welsh. It’s all of it with his music: lyrics, music, performance/video shots, etc. His willingness to be so open about his struggles may just make a HUGE impact on how mental health is perceived. He contracted Lyme disease from a tick and was misdiagnosed for years. I’m not sure if the psychosis is from the disease or separate. (I have a serious autoimmune disorder that I have to take steroids for. I have had steroidal psychosis twice in the 15 years since they diagnosed it 15 yrs ago)
CHALK Outline or his whole album “Sick Boi” is mind blowing! I’m 56 and I still listen to alternative music. Teaching history at a university keeps me in touch with new music/trends etc..
