Here in Philippines,my hometown, we just leave in the soil and it grow itself. Or plant directly into the ground or even in a pot.just pick the matured chayote, Its very easy to grow just water it regularly.. sometimes it will drop on the ground .
Here in North America, our planting season is short so we need a headstart. Around March we do our seedlings indoorsor in greenhouses and transplant them outdoors sometime in May that they may be harvested before Fall or when it gets too cold and freeze the veggies. Would love to do urban gardening in the tropics just like the Phils!

I kept my outside but not directly under the sun. I always just buried the whole under dirt and it went fine.

Me I buy chayote in the market.then I leave in the soil for 1 week then it come out the seeds and roots then I planted in the pot.because I'm living in the apartment so I can put plants inside the pot only and put in the balcony
Is the water touching the tissue paper before laying chayotes in the plastic tray? If so, the tissue paper must be wet. Also, do you need to change water and do you have to keep the plastic tray in the open air to get the sun for roots and the plant to grow?

LEE WONNELL nor really. There is a lady in Vancouver Canada she has the you tube and sh grow them too. She harvest them I’m the fall. Los of fruits You have to redo the process each year. Now April she is stating to grow those roots
