LG aus 🇩🇪 Danke für die Info … in jedem Fall werde ich mir Chajoten anbauen … im Blumenkasten … hochranken unter dem Balkon … Wäscheleine spannen und los gehts wenn man keinen Garten hat ❤😊
50 yrs ago a friend's wife in S Miami grew these like crazy in a chain link fence. I now am finally getting around to doing it myself in N Central Florida. Wish me luck - I don't have a green thumb ,-\
As someone who is completely new to gardening but full of excitement, your tips, and the information you share with us is so beneficial for me. Thank you so much for all this and I will try to keep up to make this world a better place, sharing mind experiences and ups and downs. Wishing you all the best and take care. :)
I started mine this way in March (it was still getting down to 32 - 38 degrees (F) some nights) inside. It is May 3 and they have all sprouted well. Temps are much much warmer now, so next step is to put them in soil...so far, so good. We should be able to have a decent harvest in the Fall.
wow amazing sayote..great sharing tips.. hope i can also plan this. but we only had short weather they dont survive in the cold climate// injoy fully watched..
I am using this method, and am having similar results. I have kept my chayote on a thermostatically controlled heat mat set to 80°F since I first put it in the plastic bag.
As a 4th generation farmer here's a basic characteristic of the chayote fruit.one obvious is that the more mature the fruit is the lighter the color is.its never dark green or green.you cannot store it in an immature state in a water filled container because it will rot.we keep the mature fruit in a dark airy area.the mature fruit has moved it seeds to the edge and opens it's mouth.we wait till it forms a seminal plant which dries and eventually shrinks it's other end.we then plant it as a whole plant.this fruit is sensitive to water because it easily rots not like tubers like sweet potatoes

La fruta madura ha movido sus semillas hasta el borde y abre la boca. the Choko.. lol throw enough in the ground and some will grow like weeds :D For a Choko plant that lasts longer than a few years you need a much larger pot.. they can Grow huge!! And can last many years getting larger and larger....
Hi, thank you for sharing your video. Do you have to water it everyday while they are in the container because I notice they get rotten when watered too much.
I got some as a gift from a friend to had a huge plant on her fence. I left them on the kitchen counter in a basket, covered with a kitchen towel. I ate two but their taste was so bland so I waited and waited. Today I looked and saw they are sprouting. I am really surprised. Winter is here but I will put them in a pot. It would be great to harvest the leaves like spinach. The only problem is that the kind I got has spikes. It is not easy to handle it but I will do my best.
Why would the sellers wrap the chayote in those styrofoam net things. Chayotes are really tough. I wish we could reduce all unnecessary single use plastics. 😢
In New Orleans we use to just put em in a Schwegmanns bag after Christmas and in a month or so planted the sprouted mirlaton or alligator pear and after the last frost and they would take off and cover our back shed and we’d get loads of em by mid summer dawlin.🎭🐊🍐🤤

You will do alright, plant it with care and it will flourish.
Wrap your thumb lovingly in a salad leaf n you'll have a green thumb. All the very best. Love from India
