@@BCLighthouseKeeper That whole year you were gone was boring But now that your back It’s time for Boat Bluff Lighthouse to be the centre of attention across all lighthouses!
Hey! My name is Elena, I am the producer of the travel program "Incredibly Interesting Stories" on the Russian Ren TV channel. We are preparing an interesting story on the topic of voluntary life at the lighthouse, we learned that you are a lighthouse keeper, this inspired us a lot! You are a brave person. Could you please give us an interview? You can record a Q&A video for us about your life. I'll be waiting for your response! Thanks!
Not a dumb question, no worries. In BC keepers stay on site 365 days a year (well except for vacations) and so there is no need to own or maintain a home anywhere else. Still some keepers do and there are a few stations that are rotational meaning you work for 28 days and then are off for 28 days and so they would need somewhere to live on their 28 days off. For me, I would not want to own a home or rent. It just does not make financial sense to me. I am able to put 85% of my paycheck into savings or investments meaning I can grow my personal wealth quickly and easily. If you do it right, you can retire early with good savings, and still have your pension after you are 65. It is a perfect financial strategy as long as you don't mind the isolation.

how did you become a lighthouse keeper?
I knew of the department though someone I know and so I just applied when I found the time was right for me to do this job.
you could use around 3 times more tractor...
LOL, yeah it does have some difficulties when the snow is really heavy. We have gotten a really good snow blower now so that really helps.
❄️☃️🎄
nice to see you here!
Dumb question. As a lighthouse keeper do you actually have a home? If so how do you manage to take care of it if you’re always gone? Just curious.

Can you have a girlfriend or a wife and kids at a lighthouse?
You sure can! It is even better if you are working as a husband and wife team! Then you are both being paid and you have next to no expenses!
