Wow!!! I mean seriously mate wow!!! I knew a lot of time and effort would have gone in to this, but no idea just how much, your bleep machine must be burnt out lol. But allow me to say it one more time, thank you so much, that video has given me even more reason to love this vehicle when I look at it, it takes on yet another meaning to me, you are just a straight up amazing guy, and I'm honoured to be able to call you my friend 🙏. Thanks so much Dave
I love restoring these old toys despite all the bleeps 🤣 This was a great project to dig into and loved every minute of it. We all enjoy collecting and the hunt, but seeing this go to a good home and friend has been even more of a buzz! Thanks Luke for your kind words!! 🙏 Right must get some new batteries for the bleep machine 🤣
You are a patient man. I started disassembly on a parts Switchblade but gave up halfway through, once all the springs started flying. I shipped it off to Joseph. Mr. Hands, the engineer, will hopefully have better luck, especially your video to help. Great work!
Thanks Michael!! 🙏 I do love the challenge of restoring these items, so the patience comes naturally. It sounds like Joseph is a master at this game - plenty to learn from him 😎 Switchblade is an awesome item and I got immense satisfaction seeing this arrive in the hands of Luke 👍
Hasbro Kenner needs to reissue the small figure line and vehicles of the classic M.A.S.K. series from the 80s. This was my all time favorite action figure line growing up as a kid.
Same here. If they reissue the line again I would buy all of it. Such a great toy line, in my opinion the best action vehicles ever made. I recently got a complete Jackhammer for my collection, always wanted it as a kid but never had it. Omg I love M.A.S.K. so much!
Great to see the Switchblade back to it's former glory, there's a serious combination of skill and commitment displayed in this video. Also makes me appreciate how much talent went into designing and assembling these toys in the first place.
Thanks!! 🙏 Yeah, whenever I take any of the old stuff apart, I'm always amazed by the number of parts and the design hiding away in there, and also wonder how on earth did they assemble them quickly in the factory 😎
Amazing Video and a real kind act of generosity to gift such a wonderful vintage Mask toy to Luke. Dave you did not miss a trick in your restoration and after watching Luke's video I know he loves it!
I have no witty comments to make this week Dave, this video was simply fantastic. The work you did restoring that Switchblade is one thing but to give it to Luke, knowing how much he'll appreciate it, is another. Very enjoyable video my friend and after watch Luke's unboxing, it makes this video even more enjoyable.
Thanks Marc!! 🙏 I loved every minute of the restoration despite the bleeps 🤣 I find it very relaxing and rewarding. However, I was stressed that Luke was going find one for himself before he received it though 😎 but it all worked out perfectly as it arrived on his birthday! Thanks for watching 👍
That was stressful to watch! Well done for persevering and finding a solution. I was thinking of the workers putting these together in the factories in the '80s...ouch.
This video should've been entitled "I hate springs" ... mate, this was an amazing restoration and I could really feel the pressure and stress you were experiencing throughout this. My misses asked what was wrong (because of the face I was pulling as you put it back together) 🤣🤣🤣 and even though this was an 'edge-of-the-seat' watch, I thoroughly thoroughly enjoyed it! But wow Dave it was worth the effort, you saw Luke's face when he was running around the house! 👌

Just for the record, THANK YOU for making this video. Not only was it super cool to do all this work as a gift for your friend, but as of yesterday, you also helped me, as well. I recently got a 2nd incomplete Switchblade, because my first has a broken clip that supposed to hold the Rotor down. I had planned on using the 2nd's main body and putting all the missing parts from my 1st on it, but... Turns out, although the 2nd had a properly functioning clip that holds the Rotor down, one of the tailfin clips, that holds the wing back, was broken. I almost just tossed the 2nd one in the ol' parts bin, but I remembered this video and decided to take a chance like you did. The part where you show all the inner springs and gear placement REALLY helped and after a bit of struggle, and thanks to you, I now have a fully functional Switchblade! One bit of information you may find interesting, my first attempt was to use the top of one Switchblade (with the functioning Rotor clip) and the bottom of the other (with the unbroken Wing clip) and just screw them both together. I discovered that one had a larger center screw post and they would not go together flush in the middle tailfin section! Try as I might, the gap would not close. So, I ended up just taking the Wing clip spring section out and putting it in the other and it all worked like a charm. I was so confused why that screw section would be made so differently, but it was night and day to look at them! ;) Hope you don't mind this long message, but I wanted to thank you for helping me in my repairs. Not only did you do a good deed with the repair/restoration/gift for your friend, but your video was more than just entertaining and informative, it was inspiration and a whole lotta help, as well. I did not know that about the bombs! 👍 And the struts were probably welded together so didn't take them apart, but they worked anyway 🤘
@@VintageToyRush I think it was a choking hazard thing, but considering the masks were basically colorfull chewing gum ... EU maske also were bigger than those from the US, i.e. giving Matt's Helmet front and back support.
Yeah, those work or don't, nothing you can do unless you crack them open.
I had my release switch beak as well, but young me just crammed a paper clip in there and it did the job..
My first vehicle was Piranha and one day the holding mechanism for the sub didnT work anymore - I think I folded up some paper and crammed it in, to force the lever down.
@@bladerunner3314 yeah the early US masks were short versions - but were replaced by longer versions with holes to reduce the choking hazard!! The UK only had the longer version masks. If you can fix your stuff with clips and paper, I'm all for it 👍
whaaa wonderful ! nice tips to fix the switch. where can i find the same spring? regards
Thanks!! 👍 I'd recommend buying a box of mixed springs. Then you can pick the best one by eye and feel. I needed to cut a spring down to the correct length. Hope that helps!!
Switchbalde is like Bukaroo, unbelievable skills which just caused me to check mine working properly, thank the lord it is, I am not doing this (lack your patience)
First time it was a pain, but have since done another, it gets easier over time! But I still can't stand all the springs 👍
How do you do it man?! Do you take pics of every stage? So you can keep track of what goes where?
Yeah, take more photos than you think you need. Surprising how many times I've thought, that's easy to re-assemble, only to find when the time comes, I can't remember where everything goes!!
@@VintageToyRush yeah I can imagine. Awesome vids!
Need magnetic tray to hold the Screws
The one I use came from the phone repair site IFixIt. You can also write and wipe away too which I find handy sometimes 👍
