Rajini movies would always have a special place in our lives (as a 90s kid). Staying far away from chennai but still catching up on his movie first day first show, kicks in myriad of nostalgic memories. Just the whistles and claps will kick in the nostalgia
He also opened the Indian market specially south Indian content to a very huge audience without that I don't think it would have been easy for tamil movies to release in many screens overseas! What ever his height his personality off screen is incredible 😍
I really liked when you mentioned that thalaivar didn’t get to do a lot of work with ace directors who could’ve activated the real acting prowess in him. I’m glad that you brought it up. I think many directors did not explore the actor side of thalaivar especially after the late 80s. This is perhaps the real reason why Gen Z see him only as a Superstar/commercial actor.

Apart from the movies that you mentioned, his measured acting in Kabali and Kaala are also worth mentioning. These movies may not have been all that great. But, his seasoned acting in these flicks were a breath of fresh air.

I honestly cannot believe that people even think he deserved this award in a state where a man has been giving his blood and sweat to put Indian cinema on the world map. Announced exactly 4 days before the election we know what this award is for. Kindly don't ever insult by giving this award to kamal Haasan as it has already been bestowed to a person who definitely doesn't deserve this.
I believe Tamil audience are lucky in a sense we had a two extremes in a spectrum of cinema and we get to enjoy you both. On one end Kamal doing his amazing work showing why he is best in what he does and other end rajini being rajini bringing celebration to fans. Contrary to fc audience opinion , I wouldn't change rajini to someone else. It's this truly remarkable variety we have still we get to enjoy both and appreciate it . In north he was face of South indian cinema in a wrong way, actually his movies made us stereotype south indian cinema, after bahubali people started watching South Indian movies properly and there are better actors like manmooty, kamal hassan chiranjeevi and mohanlal (the best among all) but definitely not rajinkanth
@bada bing bada boom problem with some people is they cannot digest the fact that someone non Telugu is Praising a Telugu movie and actor, after watching rudraveena I can say chiranjeevi is miles ahead from rajinkanth, rajinikanth tried copying others in the name of remake. Chiranjeevi in rudraveena was as good as kamal hassan in its remake, chiranjeevi is fairly underutilized
Even kaala and kabali he can easily do duet songs but he did those movies that too with new one like pa ranjithh I mean atleast he tried to attempt some thing different
BR mentions Rajini's 1975-1985 phase showed the real actor in him...actually he has completed 100movies by that time...and in the next 35 years he has acted only in 60films...so his major works are in that phase .. Ranjini was a versatile actor from the beginning…but now due to people pressure he had to choose only hero role.. he had done villain character for most Kamal movies in early years. He did supporting role. He respected women actors and always been there to support them. I heard from Sri Priya that he went and advised Sri Priya to stay with her parents when he saw some news about her in newspaper. There is much more unknown true facts about him. He is well deserved than Kamal Hassan. In every Kamal movie, Kamal will be the hero or portrayed as good one no..very good one. If he doing a villain role then the movie don’t have a hero or there will be another dual of him doing a hero role.
Rajanikanth and Salman Khan are similar in so many ways; both are superstar but not pushing the boundary enough. Both are happy in their usual zone.....
BR, I'm so glad you mentioned Netrikaan and Thalapathi. For me those two films are supreme examples of how the actor Rajni and star Rajni could well be positioned in an entertaining yet powerful roles. The Surya of Thalapathi especially are full of flaws and I can't any star of Rajni's stature agreeing to something similar even now.

I disagree with the Shashi Kapoor part. His contributions are not limited to acting. He produced some of those pathbreaking films such as Kalyug or Junoon that broke the norms of Bollywood. He was the driving force behind many more of such films. That alone deserves a Dadasaheb. Vinod Khanna - I agree. 😁
For you info, Rajini didn't win the "Best actor award". He won an award which is given for an individual contributions to cinema overall (and not just acting). Then in that case, I think both Rajini and Kamal are equally deserving (and no need to belittle Rajini's achievements). If anybody had given Best actor award to Rajini, all you sulking is right. Because Rajini himself accepts that he is not as good as Kamal
Why rajini not opted the way Mammootty and Mohanlal are now doing? Focusing on both artistic and commerical films. And now he is over 70 and people have ajith and vijay as their next superstars, I think he should take roles apt to his age.
Because he can still make a film gross 200 Crore plus, even with the most average script. Pulimurugan (M-wood's highest grossing film) itself got only 152 crores, but Rajini's below-average Darbar (with a horrible script) easily got 250 Crores. You can safety make a 650 Crore budget film (2.0) with him and get a 100 crore profit. Producers and distributors love him. By the end of the day, people just want to be entertained, whether critics like the film or not. And the producers want money. If he does artistic films, he will dilute his market because people want only entertainment from him. Besides, he is not as great as an actor as Mohanlal or Mammooty, and he knows that.
I don't know much about politics. But yes, he was the one who introduced south indian cinema to whole india Before bahubali, north audience only knew Rajinikanth nd chiranjeevi. You didn't mention about economics of film industry beyond art this tens of thousands depend on this for livelihood. He created world market for Tamil movies which is helping the industry. Lastly, it's OK for kamal fans to demand this award for him but to crib /cry and try to portray Rajini as unworthy is creepy and this is one of reason for kamal inspite of his talent is not in Rajini's league.
Acting is a skill, thats why Vijay Sethupathi has received National Award. But Acting like Acting is all the Most Difficult , that's why Rajini has received Dada Saheb 😂

You don't say that "I would like extend my congratulations to you but there are people who deserve this award better than you". I think Dadasaheb phalke award is not just for best acting but for overall contribution to film industry in general. No one gave Rajini the best actor award now (for you all to compare him with Kamal). I am not against Kamal, but both are equally deserving. So, stop belittling Rajini's achievements. This video looks like you wanted to take a dig at judges who chose him over Kamal (whom you thought was deserving) and also belittle his achievements by bringing in political factors (despite him working hard in the industry for 45 years). I mean just as a normal person, if I work hard to achieve something in life and people belittle my efforts, I would genuinely feel bad. Likewise, with the amount (immeasurable) of contribution that Rajini has done to the cinema, I can't imagine what would Rajini go through hearing all such comments. Might be that's why he stands tall (withstanding all the hate).. Kamal definitely did bring in technical innovations to film but he couldn't sell/convert them into saleable projects. All the benefits that today's actors like Vijay, Ajith, SK enjoy is due to the blueprint that Rajini created. It's very important that he gets his due for what he has done. Moreover, the kind of influence he has had on people, inspiring millions across different walks of life is one of his greatest achievements. Be it sports, cinema or business, everywhere there are examples of people who are inspired by Rajini. While Kamal is a great actor and I have been awestruck by his performance in several films, he deserves to be awarded Best actor at the national level as and when he delivers a best performance (Like he was awarded previously).

Rajnikanth started releasing the Telugu dubbed version of his films in AP/TP ,due to this other Tamil movies made their market in Telugu states
I disagree with the Shashi Kapoor part. His contributions are not limited to acting. He produced some of those pathbreaking films such as Kalyug or Junoon that broke the norms of Bollywood. He was the driving force behind many more of such films. That alone deserves a Dadasaheb.

For you info, Rajini didn't win the "Best actor award". He won an award which is given for an individual contributions to cinema overall (and not just acting). Then in that case, I think both Rajini and Kamal are equally deserving (and no need to belittle Rajini's achievements). If anybody had given Best actor award to Rajini, all you sulking is right. Because Rajini himself accepts that he is not as good as Kamal

Why rajini not opted the way Mammootty and Mohanlal are now doing? Focusing on both artistic and commerical films. And now he is over 70 and people have ajith and vijay as their next superstars, I think he should take roles apt to his age.
Because he can still make a film gross 200 Crore plus, even with the most average script. Pulimurugan (M-wood's highest grossing film) itself got only 152 crores, but Rajini's below-average Darbar (with a horrible script) easily got 250 Crores. You can safety make a 650 Crore budget film (2.0) with him and get a 100 crore profit. Producers and distributors love him. By the end of the day, people just want to be entertained, whether critics like the film or not. And the producers want money. If he does artistic films, he will dilute his market because people want only entertainment from him. Besides, he is not as great as an actor as Mohanlal or Mammooty, and he knows that.

The dhadhasaheb award that ajith got last year was a duplicate. There are so many awards named after dhadhasaheb.
You didn't mention about economics of film industry beyond art this tens of thousands depend on this for livelihood. He created world market for Tamil movies which is helping the industry. Lastly, it's OK for kamal fans to demand this award for him but to crib /cry and try to portray Rajini as unworthy is creepy and this is one of reason for kamal inspite of his talent is not in Rajini's league.

Hi @Baradwaj Rangan - While some of your points are right, I must say it was disappointing to hear few points that you made. If you want to congratulate someone, you just congratulate. You don't say that "I would like extend my congratulations to you but there are people who deserve this award better than you". I think Dadasaheb phalke award is not just for best acting but for overall contribution to film industry in general. No one gave Rajini the best actor award now (for you all to compare him with Kamal). I am not against Kamal, but both are equally deserving. So, stop belittling Rajini's achievements. This video looks like you wanted to take a dig at judges who chose him over Kamal (whom you thought was deserving) and also belittle his achievements by bringing in political factors (despite him working hard in the industry for 45 years). I mean just as a normal person, if I work hard to achieve something in life and people belittle my efforts, I would genuinely feel bad. Likewise, with the amount (immeasurable) of contribution that Rajini has done to the cinema, I can't imagine what would Rajini go through hearing all such comments. Might be that's why he stands tall (withstanding all the hate).. See everybody has their opinions but in the name of congratulatory message, you just didn't congratulate him (but belittled his achievements by bringing political factors etc). Kamal definitely did bring in technical innovations to film but he couldn't sell/convert them into saleable projects. All the benefits that today's actors like Vijay, Ajith, SK enjoy is due to the blueprint that Rajini created. It's very important that he gets his due for what he has done. Moreover, the kind of influence he has had on people, inspiring millions across different walks of life is one of his greatest achievements. Be it sports, cinema or business, everywhere there are examples of people who are inspired by Rajini. While Kamal is a great actor and I have been awestruck by his performance in several films, he deserves to be awarded Best actor at the national level as and when he delivers a best performance (Like he was awarded previously).
being a rajnikant fan and then a kamal hassan fan, i can say that if anybody deserves it, its kamal hassan. the fact rajnikant received is politically motivated. its the handiwork of we know who. they can never make it in TN for sure. nevertheless i am happy for rajnikant. but its a shame that kamal hasnt got it yet, but hey kamal hassan is leaps ahead of everybody else. who cares about these awards anyways when kangana and vivek agnihotri get national awards, its no surprise they are rigged.
