Mk1 Golf - Rear suspension

How to replace the rear suspension, on a Vw Mk1 Golf gti. This is the same for the vw golf mk2 Golf and Vw Corrado , polo, derby, Jetta, Passat .
The strut was leaking and needed to be replace . The spring is very soft and using my own body weight. I was able to compressing the spring enlighten to remove the locking nut.

Just out of curiosity, would it have been an option over there where you live to suspend the registration? I did this w/ one of my cars a few days ago, because I didn't want to rush the repair job and honestly didn't have the time anyway.

Yeah we have the same but you have to declare before the start of the month and it’s kind of messy . The nct ( road safety test) had to be done because I was going off with the mk1 golf owners club on a cruise. It was all go go go. But sometimes you need that or nothing will be archived 😅 hope your keeping well , happy Christmas! How are all your cars and projects ?

I see. It's a lot easier over here. It takes about 2 minutes from the comfort of your own internet-connected device. I've been ill over the last few weeks so not too much progress on the projects but then again I wasn't about to take them anywhere anyway. Keep well and enjoy your holidays as well! 🎄
