It's my understanding that from here on out, all Case knives with carbon 1095 steel will just be stamped with "CS", with the other stamps being either "CV" (which is 1095 + chromium & vanadium), the TruSharp "SS" or the Tony Bose collabs - previously "ATS34", now "154CM" which will continue with their new collab with Bill Ruple (check his customs out, he's an absolute master, the equal of Tony Bose IMO). I got this info from a knife dealer friend, who's also a huge Case collector. Same guy who I got the vintage Sodbuster from that I sent to Richter... Hope that helps
Just wanted to comment and say how much I've been enjoying your channel. I just found it this week, and you already have some of the best knife reviews I've seen on youtube. As a guy who uses his knife daily and works in a blue-collar job, it's nice to see someone review knives by actually using them, not just talking about how smooth the action is for fidgeting in an office. I also love traditional knives, so it's great to see you embrace that side of the knife world. Looking forward to future content! And would love to see more about your homestead set up! Keep up the great work!
If I remember right, the CV steel from Case was 1080 or 1085. When they started to make the switch to 1095, they had some knives sold through SMKW that were stamped "1095". Since then they have made all their carbon steel blades in 1095 with the tang stamp "CS". Hope that helps. Oh, and that yellow copperlock looks amazing! Thanks for the look at it! 👍
It’s my understanding CS and 1095 are essentially the same steel with only insignificant differences. I’ve also heard Case is phasing out CV steel due to supply issues. I have a Sodbuster Junior in CV as well as a full size trapper in 1095. Performance seems to be comparable in my experience. Great steels IMO. Keep up the great work.
I asked this question back when smkw released their “exclusive yellow trapper” stamped 1095, but my yellow trapper was simply stamped “CS” so like you pointed out I was curious what the difference was… and the general consensus was that it was also 1095, so like you I thought, that’s silly, why stamp some 1095 and others CS…. But, if someone doesn’t beat me to it, they have a tool up here where I work that actually analyzes metal and will tell you the exact composition, so Monday I will bring a CV and a CS knife and see what they are.
🤔 A mystery on the case boxes. I am hesitant to order a case knife site unseen as it will bother me if the quality control is lacking. Today Im carrying BM Mini Freek!! See you Sunday 😬
Hope this helps I sell these for a living at my place of work CV is 1095CV CS is 1095, the exclusive for SMKW came out before they made the swap in early 2022 to 1095. This is due to shortage of material, they are finally hitting shelves even though it was announced over a year ago
I’ve always heard SS is 420HC CV is 1084 Best answer I’ve gotten though was from DoomCrew utube channel. He took his carbon Case knives to get analyzed. The answer he was given was: CV is modified 1084 (added chromium) CS is 06 Tool Steel 1095 is 1095
Got my s90v pm2, case large stockman in carbon steel and a vic pioneer x in my pockets. On my belt got my Leatherman rebar sharpie and olight warrior something or other and an lt Wright medium gp in AEBL. Remember to be careful with my mama 👉👈🥺
I gave it some thought once before i thought the side to side play is due to the mid lock just being smaller and less tension then a lockback. Not sure though I still love the Copperlock..Always thought CV was 1095 CroVan and the other they use was 1095 stock but i dunno either .
look like they went thru some "transition" on steels and hopefully now they settle on a naming convention in all the new releases. That mini Cooper looks really nice. congrats!
I like the Yellow Delrin best of Case’s synthetic covers with White coming next CS should be 1095 but could be as low as 1075 or 1085 You would almost have to file test the blade to see how hard it is to try to determine if it’s 1095 but it’s not a $12 Chinese knife so I wouldn’t do that I prefer the Large Copperlock but to each their own I have two minis and two large The large ones are a gorgeous Red Sycamore with a Bowie Blade and a sweet Pocket Worn Orange Wharncliffe Like your knives and love your presentation But love you even more
Seems like Case is still living in the old days, when people didn’t worry so much about exact steel formulations, but rather they stuck with particular brands because they knew that brand worked for them. So those brands could make up whatever names for these steels and people didn’t seem to care much exactly what it was…as long as it sounds cool like “TruSharp” 😂 Nowadays we are nerds and we want to know details! So they need to get with the program if they’re gonna compete in this market.
warning on the back of the box is pretty radical did not know they mention that, you have a nice bracelet, i am going to paint some happy stones i think
I have a Case moose trapper numbered 6275 sp from 1977 that is some kind of carbon steel -- i can find nothing nothing telling me what sp steel is -- there are no other numbers
This vague type of labeling makes me assume the worst. There are so many clones and knock offs out there that discrepancies are not to be taken lightly. If a company cannot produce consistent info about their product I tend to avoid them and look for a manufacturer who is up front about what they are selling. It is the very least they can do when asking for you to part with your hard earned dollars. My suspicious cranky point of view.🧐
Unfortunately- that’s not true. Case Carbon Steel at 65 HRC will never be as good as Maxamet at 65 HRC. Once you get into learning about knives you will understand💕
I can't help you with the metallurgy but those are sweet looking knives. Does Richter Knives have time to make slips for other people or is he under contract specifically to you? 🥸 Seriously, thanks for sharing.

Hi Erica
Same old Case stockmen with the gnarly patinas, same carry everyday
Take care

Mysteries of life! I've always had great service from case CV. Great video
Same! Cheers!🎉
I have a Case Mini Copperlock on the way to Spain from Germany. Of course it's Carbon steel. Red bone.
Yay!

Ooooh perfect that’s awesome!!!❤
What happened with this?
I wish I had purchased a Tribal Lock model when they were available. I liked the look of the spear point blade.
They’re still available I have seen them❤
Most of CS steel knives from Case are 1095! Those are beautiful knives!!
Yes!❤
It's just the new way of stamping.Same steel 1095.Need confirmation call CASE CUSTOMER SERVICE
Thank you❤

Thanks Fletcher!!!
My Delrin Soddy is a CS. Maybe CS is a lower end carbon steel compared to 1095. Maybe 1095 was specifically for SMKW exclusives?
We got answers above luckily!
That Copperlock is a sweet little knife. I’m loving mine. It took a screaming edge
I am stoked to sharpen it!!!
I’ve always heard
SS is 420HC
CV is 1084
Best answer I’ve gotten though was from DoomCrew utube channel. He took his carbon Case knives to get analyzed. The answer he was given was:
CV is modified 1084 (added chromium)

1095 is 1095

I will!!!!
That’s interesting that they changed up the way they labeled the steel, especially if it’s the same steel for both of your knives!
Right!
I gave it some thought once before i thought the side to side play is due to the mid lock just being smaller and less tension then a lockback. Not sure though I still love the Copperlock..Always thought CV was 1095 CroVan and the other they use was 1095 stock but i dunno either .

That mini Cooper looks really nice. congrats!
I love it!!!!
Case yellow delrin is supposed to look like ivory... so it's gonna be lighter.
1095 is nearly identical in composition to their crome vanadium. Their crome vanadium is a custom 1095 blend
Thanks for watching!
@@ericasedc man I'm a fixed blade guy but you have me wanting a slip joint sodbuster Jr. That autumn burnt bone or whatever it is is beautiful
@@SouthernKnifeLife do it! Get one!
@@ericasedc I have been looking for the past few days 😂I had a slimline trapper from the early 90s it would peel taters like nothing
@@SouthernKnifeLife I have a Slimline Trapper with the yellow handle. Bought in 1956 and still going.
I just called case and the lady that answered the phone said that the CS had a just a little less chromium and vanadium than the 1095
Oooooh
So they they're in contradiction to other customer service who insist it's the same. Great
Maybe one worker can only line up two stamps CS and another one can do four for 1095.
Tis a mystery for sure.
😂❤
I like the Yellow Delrin best of Case’s synthetic covers with White coming next

It can be confusing…I think if they have 1095, it will say it
Right💫
I just got into the case knives I bought a yellow sod buster Jr has Cs on the box and 3137 not sure what that is.
Carbon steel
The yellow must not be tampered with. They are sacred. ;)
I tampered 🤣
They couldn't be 1095, cuz they'd brag about it!
Just in Case, haha!

That’s a strange tactic. Why would they make it a mystery? 🤣 idk
