there is an alternative at the 5th fret - take a conventional Amaj7th - eliminate the A note on low E string, finger the Amaj7 notes on D, G and B string, adding B note (9th) on high E string with pinky. sonically not identical, but it gets it done
But work on that stretch across the 6th and 9th frets, you will need it for Shape of My Heart - play that on guitar and every person in ear-shot will want to take you home.

You can use another position of neck. Middle finger on A String on 12 fret, index on D String at 11 fret, Pinky on G at 13 and Ring on B string at 12.
