L’Oréal’s Lumi Glowtion is an excellent dupe for this skin look. I have been using the two lightest shades for years, and it’s amazing. Amazing alone, mixed in with foundation, under foundation. Of the price of these is a little heavy, personally, I would recommend trying the Lumi!

being poor gives me such a utilitarian view of makeup and i love it. it took me a year of research and saving up to buy exactly what i knew i'd like, so i don't feel a need or want, not even a hint of it for other dewy products since i have my tried and true ones:
tatcha dewy skin cream (i finally posted a mini review!), danessa's prismfx lotion + tiara vision flush, and glossier's futuredew layered together gives me a starlike sheen that lasts allllll day, and even when i run out of 'em, i won't be sad. i'll just get something by elf to replace it since it's all the same to me as long as i end up
    SHIIIIIIIIIINNNNAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY~

And this is why we love you. I’ve gotten caught in that cycle, hoping that the next thing would change my (already great) life. Only to be disappointed that in the end it looked just like what I already had. It’s only cosmetics, not a life partner. If we only put that much energy into our relationships. Thanks for putting it all into words.

Same. And with Auric's super air tight packaging I feel like it's going to stay intact formula wise much longer. CT packaging isn't great.

I had this same idea pop up this week with Auric. Because I have a mostly full bottle of Flawless Filter and a teensy smidge of the Glowwand left (which I use differently and often at the same time). And I saw swatches and heard comparisons and can see the shade differences, but at the end of the day, I have a mostly full bottle of Flawless Filter. I like it. It is one in a long line of luminizers I use to mix with my primer to wear along or under foundation (and occasionally as a highlight over foundation). The Auric will be there when I finish the Flawless Filter. Just like the Flawless Filter was there when I finished Marc Jacobs Dew Drops. And maybe I'll buy Auric, maybe I'll buy the Chanel, maybe I'll repurchase Flawless Filter, maybe I'll repurchase the Dew Drops. All of them are different. But not different enough to mean I need two that do the same thing. This is a category of things I use daily because I like it and it doesn't have to be the perfect one. I can finish one and use the next. This is kind of why I love panning. It takes the romantic illusions out of it when you are faced with using up a thing you bought. And now I know the Chanel is the same kind of thing in this line of products I use, which is super useful for when I finish Flawless Filter, but also a relief because I don't need to think about it until I finish Flawless Filter. And then I can just pick one based on where is most convenient for me to shop, whether there's a sale or a bonus.

I appreciate your insights into the obsessiveness that can accompany searching for products. I have spent countless hours doing research (i.e. reading/watching reviews, comparing ingredient lists, etc.) for cosmetics (as well as clothing, cleaning products, or anything really) to find the best one- there is something so soothing & satisfying about "the hunt," but I'm now trying to abstain from this hobby while I am on an intermittent low buy.

You're still my favorite. Your subscriber count SHOULD be higher. You earned it. You deserve it. However, if the last 4 years (and the continuing saga thereof), have taught me anything, it is that those who deserve to be at the top aren't always the first to reach it. This message is not to point out you don't have a million subscribers, but instead to let you know that you should take great pride in the reason you don't (yet) 😉. Your kindness, authenticity, honesty, vulnerability, intellect, and unique sense of style is refreshing. I adore the way you incorporate all of this into an art form. Anyone can test a highlighter and offer a coupon code for the next, often ridiculous trend. However, very few can take us on a journey with the art of Terry Barber, wax poetic and touch our hearts the way you do. Oh, and also, you are beautiful!

  • @wanderingoff13
    @wanderingoff13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I think the point you make in this video is really strong and like, important to your overall message. It's something I've noticed watching your content, where like, it's a joy to watch you swatch all your red lipsticks and point out the tiny differences and arrange them in a row by color and all that, and also there are times when I'm like "ooh, Hannah's definitely wearing x product" and then check the description and it's actually just not that. Like, makeup isn't and shouldn't just be about what people see on you so it doesn't matter if no one else notices the minute differences between what you look like with the red you chose versus any other, but you can see where obsessing over those minute differences could go to an unhealthy place pretty quickly.
Anyway, great, extremely astute video as usual!! Thanks for making it

I love when you talk about beauty and how it gets tied up in identity and escapism. I've spent way more money on beauty and skincare in 2019 and 2020, never to the point of ruining my financial health, but I know I'm doing it to bury my unhappiness. It's humbling but necessary to have the reminder. It's all just colored dust and it's ok to love it but let's not get carried away thinking it's going to change us fundamentally.

Your chat at the end reminds me of the “Duping the Vibes” series. Are we adding products to our collections because we are chasing a cloud-self for whom we will never catch? Let’s not loose our heads. Having written this I love swatch videos and building my own palettes online. But there’s a different between taking actions to obtain the “perfect” item and knowing when to let it rest. I will always be me. No product will change that.

The issue you describe here I have with crease/transition shades. For me, in my daily eye look a light brown is a light brown. I don’t see much difference in using an eyeshadow or my bronzer to blow up a bit the look where my eyes are more deep-set. With lipstick, however, it’s different. Some brands just get colors better! Chanel, Lisa Eldridge is, for me, the kind of lipsticks where the color is exquisite. But realistically, for the beholders, a red lip is a red lip :)

I've never thought a beauty product would change my life and make me a new woman. I've started pushing myself not to watch TH-cam during my work week and I think it has helped immensely with stopping me from feeling such an urge to shop.
Giving myself a product limit for the year (12) is really helping too. I want to buy 1 or 2 of the eye duos from Auric and a highlighter but in a whim I also want a Virgo lipstick and maybe even the mini love palette. Then I think 12 products. Do I want to knock out half of my years allowance in the first month or 2 of the year? With that in mind and minimizing how much I put new products at the forefront of my mind I am better able to shake off the urge to hoard it all.

on products looking almost the same when worn- omg. i tend to obsess over blush colors, because i have an idea of how the perfect blush should look, but i have yet to find it, because of all the variables involved. that is, the color of my face and then the variety of colors in my foundation and powders. but ultimately, of course, so many times it's hard to tell what blush i'm even wearing because on the face so much looks the same. so, this year i might just go for it and declutter all but like, three blushes so i can stop worrying about it. ;-)

But I am so glad I watched...as always, you manage to take the small little moments of desire that we all experience as consumers, and endow them with thoughtful presence. I came for the shiny stuff, stayed for the philosophical questioning of how "unique" any one product could truly be! This is a really good reminder to reflect on our own collections and think about how much of the things we yearn for are similar enough to what already exists in our collections. I'm in the market for a liquid highlighting product since I've used up all of my cream and liquid illuminators, but I'm going to patiently wait for your Auric review since the price/ingredients/delivery system of that particular version of this glow product entices me the most. 😁

Girl. I really needed to hear your takeaway at the end. I recently got swept up in the fragrance community and as cool as it's been to start noticing scent in a more nuanced way, it's so easy to start thinking that I'll be somehow different if I only amass the right sort of collection. It's far too expensive of a habit to start hauling like there's no tomorrow especially seeing as how smelling different won't get me working again or change the state of the world in any meaningful way which is what I'm really trying to do. Paying attention to all the minutia of fragrance notes I don't even know if I'd like is driving me mad so I'm resolving to be honest with myself, decide what I can afford, and wait.
Anyhoo, I've been watching you for about a year and a half now and love being along for your journey. Have a fab day!

I hope the chanel les beiges is not beautiful in theory. It looks positively brilliant on your skin. Thanks for the comparison review! I'm not into the "shimmer goos" and because of my dry skin I want to stray away from the luminous powders...so I think the les beiges is my next splurge!

I am a very fair natural redhead and the Charlotte tilbury is a perfect match when used on my face all over like a primer…spectacular…

Still considering whether to get the mini Charlotte Tilbury or not get one at all. The mini is about 2x as expensive as the full size per oz, but I would much rather pay $15 for a small amount than $45 for a much larger amount that go bad in the bottle before I use all of it. As a very very oily person, I'd generally use it as a highlighter and not a primer

I would love to know the cost per use of these products? In other words, do you find yourself using more of one than the other, if so, one would be more cost effective than the other.... wow, I’m finding making a complete sentence really hard right now!

Hannah you hit the nail right on the head. Not that I didn't know exactly that but to hear you say it reminds me I am not the only one with this thing I feel. Ive been on this comparison search for the 3 of those (auric) for at least a week. And you'll get a kick out of why. Because auric doesn't offer Klarna. 😁 So I keep hoping someone will say that auric is exactly the same to Tilbury. But I need it in general, to fix my life.

To add to the “perfect glow quest” ...
Revlon’s Lumi Glotion is a total dupe to your products mentioned at a fraction of the price

Your take on the obsession over comparison hit me like a tonne of bricks. Whilst I have no problem with over spending, I can say without any doubt that I have a problem with exhausting my time and energy pouring over swatches, searching for 'my perfect one'. This is something I am attempting to combat this year with a 'no-shop' plan in place. I will be returning to this video to remain level headed. ❤

I have so many thoughts. First, the flawless filter has been on my list FOREVER as well, and my reasons for never buying it are the same-I can’t figure out where in my routine I’d use it, so I know myself: I just won’t use it. But I also know that it would be beautiful if I did-I’m so torn. She came out with a mini version, and surprisingly, I really don’t want that. It’s so tiny, and I’d rather get the full size because I know from experience that for base products, I won’t use a mini. I have some gift cards from Christmas and I go back and forth, thinking about how different this might be from other products I already own-as you said, there are minute differences, but what would those differences amount to in practice? All this to say, I love how your reviews aren’t *just* reviews-they’re stories about how humans work in real life. Loved this video. I know I don’t have to care about the products you’re reviewing (even though in this case I really did) to learn something from your review!

Charlotte Tilbury's foundations still contain the mystique for me, as so many people enjoy the product. But I can't justify such a hefty foundation purchase since foundation isn't my thing. But oh boy do I still get caught up in the "hunt" of it all sometimes. Even when I know I won't love the product as much as others because foundation isn't where my heart lies. Darn you marketing!

Thank you for you and this video. You are the best. I am so lucky to find you. I fell into this rabbit hole after my mom passed. It was like I was trying to buy being happy and contour a smile on my face.Line a sad clown 😝I was t really a makeup wearer before. It took a lot of reflecting to realize what was happening. Makeup become my own personal snake oil.I used to draw and sketch for fun but became submerged in cosmetics and skincare .Makeup is fun but it doesn’t change you. I still love makeup but not hypnotized by it and influencers like I was.
