Rules that Ferrari Owners Must Follow

  • As one of the most popular sports cars in the world, Ferrari likes to maintain its exclusive brand. In the fine print of their contracts, they have some rules that Ferrari owners must follow when buying a new car from Ferrari. Watch today's #MorningMusing to hear about these rules.

    Transcript:
    Do you want to own a Ferrari? Hello, this is Reinhard von Hennigs. And if the answer is yes, well maybe you want to drive a Ferrari. You don't want to own one, but if you really want to own a Ferrari read the fine print. And no this is not just the lawyers talk as in reading as a fine print. It is the last talk to read the fine print because what's in, it may surprise you.
    The fine print in the Ferrari contract as it's used in the United States, and I've seen this implemented in other parts of the world as well, is that there are multiple rules and restrictions as to what you can do with the car.
    I'll highlight two. Number one, you cannot resell the Ferrari the first year after you bought it if you buy a new Ferrari directly from them, why? They want to make sure that you're not flipping the car, that you're not trying to buy a new car at the dealers' price, and then flip it because it's such a rare collection car and you want to make money out of that.
    So if you want to flip a car, don't get a brand new Ferrari from Ferrari. And number two, don't cover the logo. Ferrari issued a cease and desist letter to an artist who covered the whole Ferrari logo. And instead of the famous horse, put something different on it.
    Ferrari was not amused about the wrapping of the car, but also about the logo is covered. So part of the cease and desist is that the wrapping did a cutout. So where the logo is supposed to be, a logo was not visible, even though the wrapping was rather ugly.
    A few more things come to mind what you need to do. And I wonder if you're exporting the car. How does this work? I also wonder if you buy a car in a country where certain rules are different and certain rules are restrictive with regard to general terms and conditions how this would play together. But my takeaway today is if you want to protect a brand, do it on all levels and make sure that your brand is adhered to even in the smallest fine print of your contract.
    #398, April 2021, Ferrari, fine print, contracts, brand, logo.

      Yeah it's just like an Exclusive Club with their own rules. Of course, if you don't like, you don't have to buy. They won't give a fuck. I think that Snobby attitude actually brings up the brand value. Look at the high end night club who literally denies you as a human if you don't look good enough or don't have enough money. Don't you want to go to that club instead of a club open for anyone like older women, fat chicks, guys in dad bods, trashy people?

      Ferrari loses money developing flagship cars. By selling them below actual cost at limited production runs. This is why Ferrari would only sell you a flagship car if you are a vetted loyal Ferrari customer. Ferrari only wants their flagship cars to go to its most loyal Ferrari customers. Which means you have to buy a few lower end crappier Ferrari cars before you can get an oppurtunity to buy a La Ferrari. Which you aren’t even allowed to sell for 2 years of ownership. If you don’t happen to like your La Ferrari. If you violate this rule Ferrari will ban you.
      Ferrari hates car flippers who makes a quick buck because they don’t earn any income from secondary sale. Ferrari created this snobish exclusive mistique on who is allowed to own their cars. So they can control how their brand image is represented. Violate any of this rule and you’re banned for life.

    This is why you buy a Ferrari in a private party sale in the U.S. You can tell the goons at the company where they can shove their license agreements, because they have no right to interject themselves into a private transfer of ownership. That's how you can create a Purrari loophole.

    Rules of Ferrari ownership.
    1) You must take 2 or more parking spots when parking in public.
    2) You must drive at least 15 mph over the speed limit at all times.
    3) You must rev your engine excessively at stop lights and stop signs.
    4) You must accept your Ferrari is going to break down constantly. This is a design feature, not a defect.
    5) You must only service your Ferrari at Ferrari dealerships and happily pay whatever the bill is. Service bills start at $5,000.
    6) You must act like a douchebag if someone in a lesser-car wants to talk with you.
    7) You must be very vague about how you got your money.
    8) You're not allowed to wash your Ferrari at automated/drive through car washes under penalty of having your first born shot.
    9) You must mention Michael Schumacher at least once every 45 seconds when talking about your Ferrari.
    10) Your first Ferrari must be in Ferrari Red, NO EXCEPTIONS!

I said that sign over there says only do 20. The cops laughed and said that says A20, it is the road number. I argued with them to leave me alone as I was only doing 20. 'No', they said, 'We starting following you on the A160'.

    Ferrari sued Deadmau5 for customizing his 458 with a _(beautiful)_ Nyan Cat wrap and calling it a "Purrari" -- _for which he had every right to do!_ Ferrari claimed it was "copyright infringement", which is a bogus accusation. Deadmau5 wasn't claiming his 458 was anything else, nor was he trying to profit from it. Ferrari then tried to evoke the Right of Refusal Agreement, but that's bogus too since he wasn't looking to sell it at that time. I understand the flipping rule, Ford and Chevrolt have done it as well. (Understanding does not mean agreeing with. You OWN the car, you can do with it as you will.)
    Covering the badge I get. Ferrari, as blood-soaked as the brand is, is proud and prominent, and wants proper representation of their machines for the life of the machine.
    Ferrari's used to kill race drivers or DNF constantly. If it wasn't poor brakes, it was gearboxes, if it wasn't gearboxes it was engines so high-strung they couldn't last, if it wasn't engines it was suspension components too light for the job that would break without warning. It's a dark past they want to put behind them.

    • @ExternalInputs
      @ExternalInputs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dark past? Formula 1, Le Mans, Indy Cars, NASCAR and many other forms of car racing took a heavy toll on driver lives in earlier times. Racing cars are highly strung machines, you don't win with a robust, slower design and car racing is an inherently dangerous pursuit. It was Colin Chapman at Lotus that took the concept to its limit, not Ferrari. Bruce McLaren, who founded the original company, died in a racing sports car crash, as did many of his contemporaries.

    I'm told that Ferrari makes a particular model which is very fast and not easy to drive. To buy this car, you must first prove to Ferrari that you already own a Ferrari and have kept it for a certain amount of time. Then, you must travel to Italy (on your own $) and take their week-long driving course before you even qualify for ownership privilege. Then, put on a waiting list to buy the car. Arrogance on wheels !!

    • @22steve5150
      @22steve5150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that sort of thing goes with all their high end models. In some cases you have to own the car 2 years and then have a company rep come out and inspect your car and then you have to pay 25 thousand to get a "certification" from Ferrari that the Ferrari that you own is in fact a Ferrari. In other cases, you have to purchase 1 or 2 lesser models just to be put on the waiting list for the higher end vehicle that you actually want.

    Number 1 rule for Ferrari owners.

  • @LarryHatch
    @LarryHatch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Remember that Enzo was so rude and abusive to his best customer at the time (who owned two ferrari back when everyone else had just one) that Ferruccio Lamborghini started his own company in spite. That has cost Ferrari billions over the years just because of his ego and bad temper. Obviously, the Ford GT debacle cost the brand too, again because of ill manners. Carroll Shelby won 30 races for Mr. Ferrari and asked for a fair share of the winnings. Enzo told him "you should be honored to drive for us" and basically take it or leave it. Shelby went to Aston-Martin, his own firm, and later Ford. When Ferrari started taking wild risks to win races, Shelby famously said "that SOB killed my friend Musso...and others too". When he got the Ford deal for the Ford GT's at Le Mans he said "Ferrari's ass is mine". Yes, all these men had egos but Enzo was such a jerk and he ended up hurting his own company and legacy in the process. Ferrari used to have unwritten rule that their new car owners had to be 40 years old and up. Because of age discrimination laws in many countries, especially the US, they cannot put that is writing. But suffice it to say several young celebrities offering to pay cash for 3-4 cars, one athlete with a certified $12 million cashiers check in hand(!), have been turned down under this unwritten rule.

      I still think that what came after Ford GT was more humiliating, they did a really good car, the 512s, they finally could compete with Ford GT...
      THEM COMES PORSCHE WITH THE FUCKING 917 AND WIPE THEM OUT SO FUCKING HARD THAT THEY NEVER WENT TO COMPETE AGAIN ON HEADS.
      Porsche humble and dedication made them so good that the brand still has that amazing Aura. I still remember a old outdoor of Porsche that i've seen on internet. It show up porsche 9 of 10 first position in le mans, and says "no one is perfect."
      To end it, Enzo died with his team being humiliated in F1 by McLaren, couldn't compete properly in Le Mans and saw the Porsche, again, destroy them with one car that it's on Magnum Opus class, the 959. The F40 is beautiful, but in comparison with Porsche 959 the F40 scream like dispair of a man that got totally surpassed.
      I do think that if wasn't Schumacher and his dedication + F355, Ferrari would have be just something of past.

    A lot of people saying this is absurd but just so you know the reason I do this is because there’s so much demand for these cars that they can and people still buy every single one they make and it helps keep their brand image the way they prefer. All brands would do this if they could get away with it but Ferrari is the only one that can so it’s the only one that does.

    I've heard that certain models of Ferraris once brought can't be driven on streets and only driven on race tracks, plus, the company holds the car for you until you specify what track you'll be driving. You can't do personalizations to your car. You buy a Pagani and customize it any way you want with no problem.😎

    • @JB-zu5gb
      @JB-zu5gb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Some models can't be driven on the street as they don't meet road requirements. FXX and other models fit into this. Part of the ownership becomes a track dedicated car but Ferrari also houses the vehicle and maintains it on your behalf. Is that worth it? Well, probably depends on where you fall into the economic bracket for whether or not having Ferrari stable your non-road car is acceptable. I'm pretty sure I'm never going to be in a financial place were such an arrangement would be a discussion.

    This seems like an own goal to me; it only encourages an independent aftermarket support network, rather than persuading owners to stay loyal to the dealership.
    At the other end of the market it's like brands 'insisting' you get services done with them at inflated prices. Aa soon as any warranty terms expire people go straight to the independent network. Weird.

After about 45 minutes my lower back was killing my, esp around my tailbone area…After an hr I was dying. So much pain. There was nothing to slouch or rest on. The seats felt like I was sitting in a toy car seat I couldn’t believe such a shitty car was so expensive. The interior deck and dash was so basic and ugly once u really looked at it. I remember the dash said “250” on it. I also pulled a muscle in my leg getting out of the car, tailbone area that goes right down ur whole leg…I couldn’t walk properly for about a week…within the first few days my cous scraped the bottom on an uneven road….it was bad. U could see it from so far away, like somebody took off the edge with a grinder…so I’d pass on the Ferrari even if I could afford one.

    How many of you have seen the ads for 2/3 year old Ferraris with less than 5000 miles on them? Absurd, might as well hang it on the wall.
    Also I understand many sell their Ferrari before first major maintenance due to the cost.

    Does anyone know what they could possibly do if you did any of those things and broke their rules? What would the consequences be?

      If you ignore a cease and desist order they are gonna sue you, for either a few thousands, or for a price that's gonna ruin your life entirely.
      So just to be sure, just buy a mclaren or lamborghini

    If you take ownership of anything, be it a car, a house, etc, how can the manufacturer have any right to tell you what you can do with it once legally owned by you?
