Wow.....I just went through a couple of fish die offs, plus just started leaving a lunar light on through the night at about the same time. I have 3 chromis in the tank and noticed that they have been getting a little more aggressive towards one another. This would make sense considering the areas where the new fish added would hide around the same areas that the chromis had already established. Thank you for helping clear things up on what possibly happened. Seems like I have some fish to get rid of or possibly turning off the light at night.
Wow, would never have thought the lights were the culprits. Glad you got it figured out and resolved. It will be cool if the other reefer can breed them. I have never kept fire fish so have no experience with them. I think once the Tank settles in, a couple weeks, then you can try one the same or little larger size. Best case scenario for it to work I think. Thanks for the upload.
Chromis are supposed to be non aggressive but that's not true, I've restarted my 125 gallon reef tank and the first 2 fish I got were chromis, they were best buds until some time later I introduced a yellow tang to the tank, then 1 of the chromis befriended the tang and attacked the other chromis until it eventually died. Seems to me these fish are unpredictable ticking time bombs. I'm glad you finally found a solution to the demise of your fish, knowledge is the key to not repeating mistakes.
You know what happens when the light gets low... I know I'm a bit more aggressive! LOL. I've really been enjoying Pat's updates and instagram... hope to get to chat it up sometime soon. Take care Billy and I'm happy to see your reef growing... RAPIDLY!
So sorry about all of the trouble. Your Chromis...are sure to be missed, but I am very glad you figured it all out. I cant wait to watch your mimic tang grow up :) I miss my mango.
Crazy fur sure. Who would’ve thought. Great video and nice looking mimic tang. I just got a blue carribean tang which is transitioning from juvenile stage. Can’t wait to see him come along. He’s still skittish.
Who would of thought of that!? Wow. Glad you found out the reason. Now I will add a lunar light over my clownfish broodstock tank. Been waiting 3 years for all of them to breed....maybe this is the trick I need. Love your vide Billy!
Makes sense Billy. I mentioned to you my experiences with breeding chromis and clicking etc. they never killed my other fish but lunar lights make sense. I had t5’s on my tank but had built in led lunar lights that were blue. Whalla! I agree this can cause breeding behavior. Its great when the lightbulbs go off!! Btw i would suggest more firefish or add six threadfin cardinals. The blue cheeks will pop under your leds. They may hide some in your caves and mine were model citizens. Tend to squabble with each other as many cardinals do, but were a great addition. The male carried the eggs in his mouth but they would never hatch or if they did were eaten. I like the idea of one tang onlyfor your system. Thnaks for sharing as your chromis were doing what they do naturally in the wild.
Cool you figured it out!! Congratulations Pipes!!! Keep the 5 Firefish and go with some pinks and purple fish, their small I just can’t remember the names. Anyway good video man love this!! 👍👍👌😎
Great troubleshooting - always keeping an open mind for possibilities. I think you’d love a Midas blenny in there and of course everyone’s favourite the flame hawkfish. 😁 And by the way you likely already know this but just in case - brine shrimp are nutritionally very poor unless they’re fortified with something like spirulina. I’ve got in the habit of adding several drops of Selcon to the food when it’s thawing and then letting it soak for a bit, before feeding. The Selcon is also an appetite stimulant. 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video and very interesting to know. I love fire fish and wish I could have some. The two I got at tank inception disappeared and I’ve got a 6 line that would probably terrorize any new additions.
I added a bonded pair of mocha storm clownfish the other day and the moment i put it in the water one immediately died idk wtf happened. The other one is perfectly fine so idk what was up. Good thing i ordered from divers den in liveaquaria so i got my warranty but man it still breaks my heart to see such a beauty die.
I find it more likely that the lunar cycle cause breeding Behavior which greatly increase the stress level of your other fish allowing some kind of pathogen that they were carrying to come out like often does, probably Uronema since we're talkin chromis and they're known to be carriers, which wiped out the fish. I've had some very aggressive chromis and damsels before and they were absolutely able to pester a fish to death by making it fall victim to something else due to high stress levels but they were never ever able to actually just beat a latge fish to death, Firefish... sure Tang... no.
Firefish are great!!! I had one named Finn based on Adventure Time. He was my model citizen fish... early to bed early to rise :) one time he even jumped out of the tank and did some hardwood floor surfing 🏄 lol, my tank is completely inclosed and he still manage to jump tank! Lucky for him my wife went over to look at the tank and screamed 😱 I stepped on Finn... I don’t know how long he was out of the tank before being stepped on , but he ended up pulling through :)
That’s crazy I wonder if you had two different pairs breeding at the same time? I only have 3 and they definitely get aggressive but I guess I’ve been lucky. I get eggs about every 2-3 weeks they slap the glass and tail slap my hand if I go in the tank and chase everything around but no deaths so far. That being said I set up an 80 gallon frag/grow out tank that is almost finished cycling maybe it’s a good idea to move my chromis in there something else. Good luck sorry I doubted chromis breeding for fish death.
Got ya self a new sub dude.... I once had chromis and they killed each other till there was only one left..... I feed mine frozen brine shrimp with garlic once a day and they love it... it also helps there immune system
Interesting, would have never thought of that. Nice new fish. Murphy has a great channel.
Thanks bud.
Wow! Never would of thought that! Great investigative work Billy
Yo thanks Dean
Glad you have figured it out and got the trouble markers out!! Many be some purple fire fish or a dragonets!!!
Dragonets sound good to me👍👍
Question: when you do a fresh water dip do you also have to acclimate them again to the saltwater before they go into the tank?
No. Just make sure the water temperature is the same
hey dude where can i buy your coral glasses im based in south london uk
I'll have more available by December. I'll post a video 👍
So do you still run your moonlight setting or just choose carefully the fish in there
No more moonlighting 👍
Hmmm 🤔 I got 1 clown fish and 2 chromises... the 2 chromises died :( got any idea why?
Sometimes it just happens unless you see the clownfish being aggressive
I think you conclusion is right on with the fish loss. Tank is looking great by the way.
Thanks Rich. And yeah it's definitely my conclusion
Amazing! Never thought about this. Good stuff!
Yup, it's crazy how the line lights made them act
Oh man. Things can happen when you change something. Great video. We learned something
Thanks K
Awesome analysis. 👍🏼
Thanks man😁

Yup, I turned off the lunar light just in case the new fish get frisky

Yeah, he's gonna keep me posted on if any babies show up

Yup, I had all 6 chromis for over 2 years with no issues then bang, they went crazy
You know what happens when the light gets low... I know I'm a bit more aggressive! LOL. I've really been enjoying Pat's updates and instagram... hope to get to chat it up sometime soon. Take care Billy and I'm happy to see your reef growing... RAPIDLY!
Hey thanks Garrett 👍

Yeah this mimic is awesome. Hopefully he grows up nicely
Sounds like a very plausible explanation💯💯
Yeah buddy
Are you sure it wasn't the salt? J/k
Lolol
Crazy fur sure. Who would’ve thought. Great video and nice looking mimic tang. I just got a blue carribean tang which is transitioning from juvenile stage. Can’t wait to see him come along. He’s still skittish.
Just came home and my mimic was a goner. He was doing awesome for the five days I had him
well when the moon comes out so do the freaks lol
Lol exactly
Thanks for the update Billy very interesting
👍👍👍

It's could totally be the answer for ya👍 good luck
I have fire fish and love them they come in variety of colors

I'll definitely add more firefish👍👍👍
What moon light can i add to my 65. With the ocean revive
I'm not sure. I guess any type would be fine
Cool you figured it out!! Congratulations Pipes!!! Keep the 5 Firefish and go with some pinks and purple fish, their small I just can’t remember the names.
Anyway good video man love this!! 👍👍👌😎
Thanks 👍 I think the pink ones are anthias
Anthias?
Lynn ReefNerd yesss he needs Anthias
Yup. That might work 👍
The tank is looking good my dude!
Thanks man
OMG no wonder my clowns have become crazy! Lunar lights are getting shut off! Thanks for informing us and happy you figured it out!
The clowns might stop spawning for you but those fish are prone to make babies on a regular
Awesome job Billy, wow, tank still looks great 😎🔥
Thanks 😊
Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I'll keep this in mind as another trick to reduce fish agression.
👍👍👍

Magnifique, BRAVO Billy !!! 👏👏👏
Thanks 😊
Great video and very interesting to know.
I love fire fish and wish I could have some. The two I got at tank inception disappeared and I’ve got a 6 line that would probably terrorize any new additions.
Yeah I've heard six lines will do that. It's odd why they do it
Great info!
Thank you Daniel 👍
Im glad you got to the bottom of it, i love your rock work.
Moon light setting the mood. LoL 😂 sounds about right.
Lol yup. Set the mood to good I guess

Fish death is so odd. I just lost the mimic tang today after 5 days of him doing perfect
Billy nice work-so the chromis were actually weredamsels like I thought 🐺🦈
Yup, they turned at the full moon lol
Your tank looks really good.
Thank you
Wow Billy .. Thank you for the update.. I know now not to run the Lunars. Last thing I need are my tangs freaking out lol. 🤗
Lol breeding tangs would be cool though 👍
I am glad you figured it out but am still sad for you@
Thanks Langen😁

Yeah I literally witnessed the chromis doing it to the big fish
Firefish are great!!! I had one named Finn based on Adventure Time. How do you spell Absafreakinlutley? Chromis!
Lol just like that I think
Glad you found out what it was
Yup...radions lol. Just kidding Ecotech 😎

👍😁😁
Good that you found out chromis are pain in the butts...
Fish need to sleep. I cover my tank at night like a birdcage because it is in the living room and I stay up past their bedtime.
I always like to make sure my corals get sleep lol.
Wow that's insane. #Blame it on the lights lol jk😂
Lolol.
The Radions did it. 😱😥
Stay firsty my friends!
Lol👍👍👍
That gold torch 🔥🔥 looking nice and fat.
Yeah. It loves where I put it👍👍
So they were werewolves in fish clothing, coming out on the full moon... lol
Exactly lol
My clowns are just a@#holes. I have 4 and they are very territorial.
