i have one of those things. i used as my soundbox in my old audi in which the inbuilt stereo system is not working. So basically the whole front dash vibrates and makes a cool sound. works very well. I put some silicone on the foot of the speaker so it wont just fly towards me when hitting the breaks.

I'm not a scientist. There are many kinds of glass, but I don't think it's about how high the frequency is. Rather the correct frequency. If it can make the glass resonate. Then is there enough "force? amplitude?" in that resonation to cause the glass to break, which is usually propogated through imperfections. Also you have to factor in anything that prevents resonation like the frame. With this, it would be very difficult to achieve but maybe on low quality, thin glass where you have created weak points. Or you could strap it to a suction cup robot and make it one heck of a distraction.
@@phineasfaber5159 you can create microscopic scratches with a light brush of steel wool which would help starting the crack which would propagate through the glass exponentially to make it much much more feasible, the resonant frequency of glass varies (for example your wine glass might be around 400-1000hz when empty) but the amount of force required for it to flex enough to shatter changes exponentially with the thickness, what is it connected to(liquids are good at absorbing inertia, a stiff wooden frame less so), temperature of the glass etc etc. It would be rather hard to shatter a window glass with a tiny speaker. The point of finding the right frequency to form a crack isn't necessarily to destroy the entire structure of the glass but to make one part flex (resonate with the sound, the inertia created through this movement will stress and break the crystalline bonds within the glass) enough, and that flexing motion is absorbed by all of the connecting glass along the flex.

*Damson Twist* or copycats like it if people were interested. They're called conductive and Diffusion speakers, and they're really cool to play with, but pretty awful as portable speakers. Bass is often lacking, sound kind of muddy, and is extremely dependant on the surface you're using it on. And if a song is too loud/bass-y then the speaker will vibrate too much making chatter notices as it dances it's way off your table.

As a kid, back when window screens were made from a metal wire stretch tight in a frame ! We would take a woman’s Bobby hair pin. Tie a light fishing line to the pin. Find a home with the window open. Slip up, hook the pin in the center of the screen! Run some distance away, where could hide from view . Then pull the line tight, then rub the line with a wet rag! This would turn the screen into a speaker! And the vibrations when rubbed the line, would would create the sound loudly at the window! The sound would be a whooping, droning sound. As long or short rubs, fast & slow. The people at home would generally freak out! They look out see nothing! We would stop then start again when walked away! If they came outside we just drop the line! Thus was best at night! We did this to a old man that was a ass wipe to everyone. We prank him for weeks he even called cops and fire department! To keep clear you pull hard to break the line at the knot roll up the line! Never know it was us!

After he got a insurance claim got new ones. Some one seen the others up in the tree! Same guy we took some 100# test deep sea line! Tied to his axle with about 100’ of slack then went up the street tied to six garbage cans! Next morning we all were in the yard he came up the street hauling ass as usual then here come the cans spilling garbage all up the street! Was so funny we do not know how fare he got but even the neighborhood laugh at him! You can do a lot with fishing line!

I'm not a scientist. There are many kinds of glass, but I don't think it's about how high the frequency is. Rather the correct frequency. If it can make the glass resonate. Then is there enough "force? amplitude?" in that resonation to cause the glass to break, which is usually propogated through imperfections. Also you have to factor in anything that prevents resonation like the frame. With this, it would be very difficult to achieve but maybe on low quality, thin glass where you have created weak points. Or you could strap it to a suction cup robot and make it one heck of a distraction.
@@phineasfaber5159 you can create microscopic scratches with a light brush of steel wool which would help starting the crack which would propagate through the glass exponentially to make it much much more feasible, the resonant frequency of glass varies (for example your wine glass might be around 400-1000hz when empty) but the amount of force required for it to flex enough to shatter changes exponentially with the thickness, what is it connected to(liquids are good at absorbing inertia, a stiff wooden frame less so), temperature of the glass etc etc. It would be rather hard to shatter a window glass with a tiny speaker. The point of finding the right frequency to form a crack isn't necessarily to destroy the entire structure of the glass but to make one part flex (resonate with the sound, the inertia created through this movement will stress and break the crystalline bonds within the glass) enough, and that flexing motion is absorbed by all of the connecting glass along the flex.

They're called conductive and Diffusion speakers, and they're really cool to play with, but pretty awful as portable speakers. Bass is often lacking, sound kind of muddy, and is extremely dependant on the surface you're using it on. And if a song is too loud/bass-y then the speaker will vibrate too much making chatter notices as it dances it's way off your table.

These used to be sold back in the 90s in a odd electronics catalog, always wondered how good they work
As a kid, back when window screens were made from a metal wire stretch tight in a frame ! We would take a woman’s Bobby hair pin. Tie a light fishing line to the pin. Find a home with the window open. Slip up, hook the pin in the center of the screen! Run some distance away, where could hide from view . Then pull the line tight, then rub the line with a wet rag! This would turn the screen into a speaker! And the vibrations when rubbed the line, would would create the sound loudly at the window! The sound would be a whooping, droning sound. As long or short rubs, fast & slow. The people at home would generally freak out! They look out see nothing! We would stop then start again when walked away! If they came outside we just drop the line! Thus was best at night! We did this to a old man that was a ass wipe to everyone. We prank him for weeks he even called cops and fire department! To keep clear you pull hard to break the line at the knot roll up the line! Never know it was us!

He bought a set of new style of mag wheels he put on his car! Bragged how he was first to have them etc. we went down to his house one night! Jacked up his car! Removed all the wheels! Then rope them up in the top of the big ass pine tree he had in his front yard! We were careful to leave no finger prints etc. next day he went crazy! Had the crime lab come out go over his car for evidence etc then went on saying no way who ever took them would get away as they were one of a kind! It was at least 6 weeks later! After he got a insurance claim got new ones. Some one seen the others up in the tree! Same guy we took some 100# test deep sea line! Tied to his axle with about 100’ of slack then went up the street tied to six garbage cans! Next morning we all were in the yard he came up the street hauling ass as usual then here come the cans spilling garbage all up the street! Was so funny we do not know how fare he got but even the neighborhood laugh at him! You can do a lot with fishing line!
