As a dental assistant, these fast teeth whitening products never work. Teeth whitening has to be done with multiple visits to carefully whiten the teeth without damaging them
@@jamescheddar4896 they can whiten the teeth but the teeth become alot more brittle and damaged, and many dentists cheat alot with cosmetic procedures, the slower the procedure is the better it usually is. if you want safe whitening, you need to visit the dentist a few times to carefully whiten them and the dentist needs to use good whitening gear

You may notice changes with each iteration, but it won't be yellow to white immediately. Or your teeth were already so close to white that only one session was necessary.

It works with hair 🤷♂️ purple toner and purple shampoo take the brassy (yellow) tones out of bleached hair. It must be something about the composition of teeth or the chemicals that are/aren't safe to put in put mouths that makes it work differently.
As an artist I knew instantly it was fake. You can't make something lighter than it already was by adding on colored pigment. You might be able to cancel the color out but you'd get grey, not white.
I understand this logically, but I've seen (and used) purple food colouring to turn yellow buttercream white before. Is it actually just turning it grey and it looks white enough to be called white, or is there something else going on with food colouring?
I think the only time it truly works is with hair, specifically with those shampoos, purple shampoo on bleached hair can occasionally result in near white hair. This is coming from an artist who enjoys bleaching and dying their own dark brown hair, it's very yellow on the part I specifically didn't dye purple cause I haven't used purple shampoo in roughly a month, I avoid using purple shampoo when my hair is dyed cause I want to preserve the colour I want, but the purple dye has faded to a grey-ish blue since my last time washing my hair.
Reporting ads is useless. I've reported various ai ads that steal footage and add an ai voice or ai fake mouth movement to the person, and even porn ads, but nothing happens! As long as it gets ad revenue youtube allows it. 😮
Reporting ads doesnt do anything, I have been seeing this exact same ad by the same person advertising "work from home amazon jobs at $25 an hr" and all its a facade to get you to put your info in these random websites so they can steal your personal information. (name, address, phone number, social security, etc) these scam ads have been on the site for over a year and ive reported them AT LEAST 5 times and nothing has happened.

VFX were used. As far as I can tell, the banana is already painted white when the scene begins but VFX are applied to make it appear the perfect, vibrant yellow. You can see that there's still some imperfections around his finger where the banana is white underneath as he moves around. As he steps behind the glass the yellow VFX is removed and the true white painted banana is revealed. It's pretty well done.
Here's an interesting real fact: most "whitening" laundry detergents contain an ultraviolet dye. When invisible UV light (especially abundant in sunlight) hits the dye, it reflects back as visible white light. So the clothes actually reflect back more visible white light than what they were illuminated with, making them actually appear "whiter".

The purple there really does help to cancel any yellow colors in sunlight (it's actually emitting excess purple light). Depending on how well you see the far end of the spectrum, you could certainly be picking it up.
It doesn't work, because any film can only ever subtract brightness, because it blocks light. Even if this worked to neutralize the yellow then it would give you a grey, not white. But on top of that, almost all color wheels are wrong, and the true opposite of yellow in a subtractive color space is not purple, but pure blue. On top of that you're dealing with the complexities of color "metamers" that don't cancel each others out completely. It's just wrong on every level.
As an artist yup, this is true. Also green isn't red's complimentary colour, it's magenta's and sometimes even purple's. Cyan is red's true complimentary colour.
YES this is why "blueing" your clothes was a thing that existed for so long, sun damage and decomposed particles would turn white clothes yellow and they sold blue dye that was only meant to slightly counteract the effects of this.
There's a concept in color theory called additive or subtractive coloring. Additive is what you see with light, so for example mixing light of all colors makes white light. In this context, yellow and purple light do "cancel" each other out, making white. However, pigments absorb light and thus work through subtractive coloring instead. So, when you mix pigments of all colors, you get black (or dark brown in practise), and if you mix purple and yellow pigment, you also get black/brown. So unless you want your teeth to be more black/brown, this product seems fundamentally ill-conceived.

Fun fact: there are some clothes detergents with a slight blue tint, so that white clothes appear white or blueish, but not yellowish. They are not widely used nowadays though.
Also, there used to be a widely used product called "bluing" that you added to whites to get yellowish tint out. Back in the days when people used starch in clothes and wax their floors.
Some of these powders use optical brighteners that absorb certain wavelengths of light, mainly ultraviolet and re-emit them as different wavelengths, mainly blues, making them appear brighter. They are also very bad for the environment and cause irritation to the wearer not to mention reduce the lifetime of the fabric.
There's actually a product that makes your teeth purple in order to get them more white. Got it from my dentist as a kid. It's a little pill you chew that stains your teeth blue or purple. You then clean your teeth until you don't see any purple spots anymore. Great tool to learn how to clean your teeth properly.
Yeah, those are disclosing tablets. They don’t make your teeth white, they only show you where there is dirt so you can clean your teeth better. Still useful tho
I had those tablets from the dentist as a kid in the 70s too. They were called Plague tablets to help identify Plague on your teeth, so you could make sure your brushing was good enough to get rid of the plague. Nothing to do with whitening. It was to prevent tooth decay when I was wearing braces for 18 months.

This is actually used in baking when trying to get a whiter icing. Since cream has a slight yellow hue, a tiny bit of purple is sometimes added. But this results in a grey usually, as you can’t brighten with pigment. But if you’re then dying to another color, it helps give a more neutral starting color
The thing is in beauty school we would tone “brassy” yellow-orange hair with purple direct dyes and we knew it didn’t turn your hair white, we called it “ash” tone because it turned grey-beige.
Wouldn't it do the same for teeth as well, then? I use purple shampoo to temporarily remove the yellow tones in my hair and it works amazingly so why doesn't it work with purple toothpaste?

If you want grey teeth that’s your business, but people generally tend to want to *brighten* the color of their teeth, not darken it, no matter whether the resulting shade has yellow tones in it or not. If the effect is subtle enough that the resulting color isn’t perceivably darker, it’s probably too subtle to be getting rid of much yellow, either
@@hamstermc7807 I bought a tube of Colgate purple toothpaste the other day. It was cheap so if it doesn't work it'll just be toothpaste, I guess. The annoying thing is I could not find any answer to whether or not it did anything or if it is abrasive on the teeth when I googled purple toothpaste. I bought it in the hopes it would brighten my teeth in the same way my purple shampoo does for my hair. I wasn't aware of the greyness part of purple shampoo 😅 although my hair doesn't get dark grey but it becomes very platinum from the shampoo. Anyways, I've literally gotten more answers from this comment section than Google. The toothpaste actually does work a bit. The ads are a total scam because you dont get the white teeth instantly but it definitely helps to get there. Even if you consistently use it it won’t be extremely white

I actually have this product, I got it for free when I got some toothpaste from Hismile, it does work BUT for literally like a second, the purple makes it look white for a second but after you rinse with water the effect kind of wears off. The toothpaste I got works fine and taste amazing but the whitening stuff is ok I guess, I wouldn’t waist my money on it honestly
I also like the whacky flavors and got the whitening purple goo for free, certainly doesn't work like advertised but more people probably need to realize that over the counter "whitening" toothpastes or pens or whatever just don't work, gotta go to a pro if u actually want them whitened. Hydrogen peroxide is the only real over the counter solution that I know but I could be wrong. Using white strips or just gargling hydogren peroxide regularly will make your teeth whiter although it’s not the best for your teeth
I got it to prove to my ex gf it wouldn’t work, I have notoriously dark teeth from drinking coffee, so I started using it and then people started noticing and telling me my teeth looked whiter.. now I just don’t know what to believe
I can see why some people fall for this scam. Purple shampoo is used to lessen the yellow effect bleach can have on your hair: it doesn't make the hair purple but adds grey hue instead. So, one might figure that the same must apply to tooth products.
The thing is, that screen acts like a filter on top of the image, it may neutralize some of the yellow, but our eyes still detect the banana as the most yellow thing in the image, causing it to still pop compared to the rest of the colors

I used the product you are mentioning, it made my teeth more yellow after two uses so I stopped using it. However it’s important to note, the company does suggest you follow with another product for adequate results. Do with that info what you will lol.

Couple days ago I accidentally spilled some blue biro ink on the composite kitchen counter in front of the kettle where it's lost it's blue tint and looks grey, i rubbed the blue in which didn't fully come out and it looks more like it used to. Not a porous surface at all. It's still doing it, there are spots of dried ink that just spread to the surrounding surface when i scrub it
Is this a joke about Tide being blue? Dyes mix together to make black or brown, light waves mix together to make white. Unless there is some specific chemical reaction happening, blue dye should just make your clothes blue (or greenish if yellow.) Unless human eyes have changed somehow in the way the eye perceives color, I don't see how this would work, especially with Indigo dye. Maybe they were colorblind and they couldn't see the resultant color. In fact, I decided to look it up because I was so skeptical of this. Allegedly people actually used crushed Lapis Lazuli, not indigo. It belongs to the same chemical class as baking soda, and creates a very light blue coloring. It's more likely that it was used for its chemical properties and rinsed out before staining the clothes, with the other possibility I see being that this created a shade of green or blue that colorblind eyes perceived as whiter, but the use as a detergent is more likely.
Edit: elaboration To spell it out more, the yellow and purple combination doesn't work since it is relative to the color of LIGHT, not physically mixing colors. That, and you need the whole rainbow to produce white light, not just two complimenting colors.
Not arguing: why does it work to tone hair but not teeth? To achieve platinum blonde, the hair is bleached to a very light yellow and then purple toner is applied. This produces almost white hair.
@krisdiane my guess (not an expert in either field, and a hair colorist would probably give a better answer) is two-fold. 1) the exact right shade of purple can desaturate very light yellow, giving you a slightly darker very light gray. In hair, this looks white. On teeth, it looks dirty. 2) The hair purple soaks in and affects the hair. The teeth purple seems to just sit on top of the teeth, which are a lot less porous than hair

@@jamescheddar4896 they can whiten the teeth but the teeth become alot more brittle and damaged, and many dentists cheat alot with cosmetic procedures, the slower the procedure is the better it usually is.
if you want safe whitening, you need to visit the dentist a few times to carefully whiten them and the dentist needs to use good whitening gear

As an artist I knew instantly it was fake. You can't make something lighter than it already was by adding on colored pigment. You might be able to cancel the color out but you'd get grey, not white.
I understand this logically, but I've seen (and used) purple food colouring to turn yellow buttercream white before.

I think the only time it truly works is with hair, specifically with those shampoos, purple shampoo on bleached hair can occasionally result in near white hair.
This is coming from an artist who enjoys bleaching and dying their own dark brown hair, it's very yellow on the part I specifically didn't dye purple cause I haven't used purple shampoo in roughly a month, I avoid using purple shampoo when my hair is dyed cause I want to preserve the colour I want, but the purple dye has faded to a grey-ish blue since my last time washing my hair.

Reporting ads doesnt do anything, I have been seeing this exact same ad by the same person advertising "work from home amazon jobs at $25 an hr" and all its a facade to get you to put your info in these random websites so they can steal your personal information. (name, address, phone number, social security, etc) these scam ads have been on the site for over a year and ive reported them AT LEAST 5 times and nothing has happened.

VFX were used. As far as I can tell, the banana is already painted white when the scene begins but VFX are applied to make it appear the perfect, vibrant yellow. You can see that there's still some imperfections around his finger where the banana is white underneath as he moves around. As he steps behind the glass the yellow VFX is removed and the true white painted banana is revealed. It's pretty well done.

Here's an interesting real fact: most "whitening" laundry detergents contain an ultraviolet dye. When invisible UV light (especially abundant in sunlight) hits the dye, it reflects back as visible white light. So the clothes actually reflect back more visible white light than what they were illuminated with, making them actually appear "whiter".

The purple there really does help to cancel any yellow colors in sunlight (it's actually emitting excess purple light). Depending on how well you see the far end of the spectrum, you could certainly be picking it up.

It doesn't work, because any film can only ever subtract brightness, because it blocks light. Even if this worked to neutralize the yellow then it would give you a grey, not white.
But on top of that, almost all color wheels are wrong, and the true opposite of yellow in a subtractive color space is not purple, but pure blue. On top of that you're dealing with the complexities of color "metamers" that don't cancel each others out completely. It's just wrong on every level.

As an artist yup, this is true. Also green isn't red's complimentary colour, it's magenta's and sometimes even purple's. Cyan is red's true complimentary colour.
YES this is why "blueing" your clothes was a thing that existed for so long, sun damage and decomposed particles would turn white clothes yellow and they sold blue dye that was only meant to slightly counteract the effects of this.

There's a concept in color theory called additive or subtractive coloring. Additive is what you see with light, so for example mixing light of all colors makes white light. In this context, yellow and purple light do "cancel" each other out, making white. However, pigments absorb light and thus work through subtractive coloring instead. So, when you mix pigments of all colors, you get black (or dark brown in practise), and if you mix purple and yellow pigment, you also get black/brown.
So unless you want your teeth to be more black/brown, this product seems fundamentally ill-conceived.

Fun fact: there are some clothes detergents with a slight blue tint, so that white clothes appear white or blueish, but not yellowish. They are not widely used nowadays though.

There's actually a product that makes your teeth purple in order to get them more white. Got it from my dentist as a kid. It's a little pill you chew that stains your teeth blue or purple. You then clean your teeth until you don't see any purple spots anymore. Great tool to learn how to clean your teeth properly.

They were called Plague tablets to help identify Plague on your teeth, so you could make sure your brushing was good enough to get rid of the plague. Nothing to do with whitening. It was to prevent tooth decay when I was wearing braces for 18 months.

This is actually used in baking when trying to get a whiter icing. Since cream has a slight yellow hue, a tiny bit of purple is sometimes added. But this results in a grey usually, as you can’t brighten with pigment. But if you’re then dying to another color, it helps give a more neutral starting color

The thing is in beauty school we would tone “brassy” yellow-orange hair with purple direct dyes and we knew it didn’t turn your hair white, we called it “ash” tone because it turned grey-beige.

If you want grey teeth that’s your business, but people generally tend to want to *brighten* the color of their teeth, not darken it, no matter whether the resulting shade has yellow tones in it or not. If the effect is subtle enough that the resulting color isn’t perceivably darker, it’s probably too subtle to be getting rid of much yellow, either
@@hamstermc7807 I bought a tube of Colgate purple toothpaste the other day. It was cheap so if it doesn't work it'll just be toothpaste, I guess. The annoying thing is I could not find any answer to whether or not it did anything or if it is abrasive on the teeth when I googled purple toothpaste. I bought it in the hopes it would brighten my teeth in the same way my purple shampoo does for my hair. I wasn't aware of the greyness part of purple shampoo 😅 although my hair doesn't get dark grey but it becomes very platinum from the shampoo.

An ad on social media was... a scam??? joking aside, all scams should be exposed no matter how obvious they are. Even though personally i struggle to find any sympathy for people that gullible.
Everyone is gullible. You can't be an expert in everything. Nor can you be alert all the time. We're imperfect humans, all of us.

Thank you!! I love Hismile’s flavoured toothpastes but I tried the purple one before they started showing the scam ads and of course it didn’t work, I’ve been telling everyone ever since to not waste their money!
their grape flavored toothpaste is the only thing that’s helped me brush my teeth regularly (yes i’m pathetic) but i’m glad i saw this so i didn’t waste even more money

Do you recommend their toothpastes? My girlfriend hates mint flavours, and has been looking for a good non-mint toothpaste, because mint toothpastes can make teeth brushing difficult for her. At the moment, she’s using a kids’ strawberry toothpaste, which isn’t the best, but is better than not brushing at all, so I’ve been looking for a better toothpaste for her.

I actually have this product, I got it for free when I got some toothpaste from Hismile, it does work BUT for literally like a second, the purple makes it look white for a second but after you rinse with water the effect kind of wears off. The toothpaste I got works fine and taste amazing but the whitening stuff is ok I guess, I wouldn’t waist my money on it honestly
I also like the whacky flavors and got the whitening purple goo for free, certainly doesn't work like advertised but more people probably need to realize that over the counter "whitening" toothpastes or pens or whatever just don't work, gotta go to a pro if u actually want them whitened. Good experiences with Hismile beyond that tho
Hydrogen peroxide is the only real over the counter solution that I know but I could be wrong. Using white strips or just gargling hydogren peroxide regularly will make your teeth whiter although it’s not the best for your teeth

I got it to prove to my ex gf it wouldn’t work, I have notoriously dark teeth from drinking coffee, so I started using it and then people started noticing and telling me my teeth looked whiter.. now I just don’t know what to believe

I can see why some people fall for this scam. Purple shampoo is used to lessen the yellow effect bleach can have on your hair: it doesn't make the hair purple but adds grey hue instead. So, one might figure that the same must apply to tooth products.

The thing is, that screen acts like a filter on top of the image, it may neutralize some of the yellow, but our eyes still detect the banana as the most yellow thing in the image, causing it to still pop compared to the rest of the colors

There’s a *lot* of scam ads. There was one about a 6k stimulus check, and now there’s one about dirt cheap car insurance. I wouldn’t be surprised if product scams were also out there.

I used the product you are mentioning, it made my teeth more yellow after two uses so I stopped using it. However it’s important to note, the company does suggest you follow with another product for adequate results. Do with that info what you will lol.

Couple days ago I accidentally spilled some blue biro ink on the composite kitchen counter in front of the kettle where it's lost it's blue tint and looks grey, i rubbed the blue in which didn't fully come out and it looks more like it used to. Not a porous surface at all. It's still doing it, there are spots of dried ink that just spread to the surrounding surface when i scrub it
Is this a joke about Tide being blue? Dyes mix together to make black or brown, light waves mix together to make white. Unless there is some specific chemical reaction happening, blue dye should just make your clothes blue (or greenish if yellow.) Unless human eyes have changed somehow in the way the eye perceives color, I don't see how this would work, especially with Indigo dye. Maybe they were colorblind and they couldn't see the resultant color.
In fact, I decided to look it up because I was so skeptical of this. Allegedly people actually used crushed Lapis Lazuli, not indigo. It belongs to the same chemical class as baking soda, and creates a very light blue coloring. It's more likely that it was used for its chemical properties and rinsed out before staining the clothes, with the other possibility I see being that this created a shade of green or blue that colorblind eyes perceived as whiter, but the use as a detergent is more likely.

To spell it out more, the yellow and purple combination doesn't work since it is relative to the color of LIGHT, not physically mixing colors. That, and you need the whole rainbow to produce white light, not just two complimenting colors.
Not arguing: why does it work to tone hair but not teeth? To achieve platinum blonde, the hair is bleached to a very light yellow and then purple toner is applied. This produces almost white hair.
@krisdiane my guess (not an expert in either field, and a hair colorist would probably give a better answer) is two-fold. 1) the exact right shade of purple can desaturate very light yellow, giving you a slightly darker very light gray. In hair, this looks white. On teeth, it looks dirty. 2) The hair purple soaks in and affects the hair. The teeth purple seems to just sit on top of the teeth, which are a lot less porous than hair
