Every time I see this on TH-cam or my Calle 54 DVD I am brought to tears by the absolute sheer virtuosity of these three musicians. Michel's smile while Anthony is playing his almost Bachian counterpoints and his smile at the end of the piece says it all. I am a bass player myself...I am not worthy!
This piece started my electric bass playing career nearly twelve years ago, and it still raises the hairs on my neck when I listen to it. Pure ecstasy.
How I came across this song is an interesting story. A plumber was doing some maintenance work in our home, and before leaving he realized we had an electric piano in the living room. He asked me and my sisters if we liked music, and then he recommended us to listen to this song. Thanks to this guy, we started to listen to jazz in my family. Some years ago, we managed to see Michel live and to talk to him after the concert :D what an amazing night that was.

I play 5-string and listen to all sorts of music. This is the first time I’ve truely felt compelled to pick up a 6-string. I can’t believe how full this piece sounds with three instruments. They are all playing for three people
same i'm mainly a 5 string players but i noticed that every single one of my favorite bassist are 6 string player : anthony jackson, pattittucci, alain caron, tetsuo sakurai, henrik linder, thundercat, even nathan east even if its not its main basse. the only reason that i don't have a 6 string yet is because i can't find one that respond to my need : 6 string with jazz pickup, 18 or 19mm string spacing for slap too. the only option were the steve bailey fender signature but its basically impossible to find one since a decade, the other option are the yamaha trb6p but the last model were made in the mid 90s and you basically only see those coming out once in a blue moon. the closest thing is the yamaha pattitucci signature but its a 6000$ bass tho.

This performance ignites the same feeling for me - with the added bonus of the incredible breakdown sections featuring Jackson and Hernandez. Magnifico!

El Negro Hernández , es un baterista que no tiene una difusión como la de un Dave Weckel , Steve Gad , etc , pero es un baterista muy difícil de superar en presicion y base ritmica.
Vi la pelicula documental calle 54, de estreno en un cine de Barcelona en España, y en este tema en concreto se respiraba en toda la sala una intensidad brutal, así que cuando terminó el tema no tuvimos otra opción que aplaudir todo el público asistente, fue increible y muy emocionante; Anthony Jackson fue bajista también con Michel Petrucianni, y últimamente también con Hiromi Uehara, igualmente para escucharlos
Anthony Jackson, Victor Wooten, and Abe Laboriel, these are the prodigy of bass (in term of playing styles) I see a lot of uniqueness between them, which are couldn't be found elsewhere and damn hell so difficult to copy. WOW
