Aye Carumba!! Few will ever reach this level of perfection (feeling, technique, creativity), but it is truly something to aspire to. Like any form of great art we should be encouraged and inspired by it.
One quick thing I'd like to add: This is more of a feel thing, I can't quite describe it. I used to do it with my brothers all the time in church (my bros and I all three composed the local Gospel band at church) and of course there is a time signature but a lot of this stuff is played through feeling, we don't count, we just feel....strange but true. Wonderful stuff really! I sincerely advice any novice drummer to learn himself some Songo (type in songo lesson here on YT) or some Mozambique (type in Steve Gadd, he incorporated it into many pop songs) something every drummer should have at his disposal/arsenal.
