Fled to the U.S. from the Yemeni civil war in 1995, the Yemeni couple, Abdul and his wife Arwa started their catering business purely from their passion in hosting big groups and treating people with homemade food. Later, they opened up House of Mandi in 2015 while continuing to serve large catering and party orders. Our friend who lived in the Middle East for some time said this is by far the best Yemeni restaurant in the DMV area. House of Mandi was featured in the Arlington Magazine in May 2017 as well. How proud!

Great review! I've been there once, good food. If you haven't already, check out Marib in Springfield. Fantastic Yemeni food and the staff is always very friendly. It's in the same shopping complex as El Grande so you can get Yemeni food and a huge jackfruit in one trip, haha.

Rumor has it that former President Bill Clinton once said: “If you never had a Yemenite cuisine, you’re missing half of your life!” This Yemenite joint - House of Mandi in Arlington - is as close to real authentic Yemenite cuisine as it can get here in the USA 🇺🇸. The owners are really warm and hospitable and always make you feel at home. Since we’re regulars, they always serve us with free stuff. Thank you Yemen 🇾🇪 for offering the world such a unique and rich cuisine like no other, and of course thank you for offering the word coffee!

awwh! sweetheart, bint al sahn is similar to malawah but not the same! bint al sahn is eaten sweet while malawh is just savoury and buttery. sabaya (bint al sahn) when pinched and lifted lifts to many separated layers. really yummy hope you try it! personally, i prefer malawh anyways. im sure you were from the north because we dont have much fish dishes but in the south they mostly eat fish!
Mulawah is a different dish it's a Yemeni dish that came to Israel through the Jewish Yemeni immigrants

Sahwiq sauce is made w tomato, jalapeno, garlic, and cilantro (garlic & cliantro are optional) and spiced w salt and cumin and you can add ground pepper

Ina Hopper No, surprisingly, it was not bitter at all! Maybe add just a little to try it out first? I’ve never made it at home. But your plan sounds great. We learned so much as well. It was our first time trying Yemeni food, and we absolutely loved it! ❤️😋😋

@@Rapidn911 There's no such thing as Saudi food. Yemen predates the founding of Saudi with thousands and thousands of years. It's not that they stole the food but rather their food has been influenced by various cuisines like African(due to proximity to Africa), Turkish (since the country was ruled by the ottomans for many years) and Arabic cuisine since Yemen is in Arabia.
