I have to tell you corporal Kelly you have the best channel for this kind of video. I truly enjoy watching and learning from you. Keep up the great work and F all those hacks out there. Another Outstanding AF video.
I often learn from Kelly's videos, also ..... I mean, I was in the Navy for nine years before I joined the Army so the knots aren't a learning point but the bushcraft and survival aspect are.
BEST LINE IN THE VIDEO: "That sucked!" Mr. Kelly, you're just about the only honest person out there that does these types of videos. Most of the others say "...I slept great." Keep up the good work.
Love the old “web gear”. Not sure why we called it web gear, but that was what we had. About the only new tech in 1980’s US Army was Gortex. Also the poncho was perhaps the most loved of any field gear…..so useful!
I just got home from doing my first solo over night in the woods. I only took a tarp, some cordage, a small folding saw, black bags to make my bedding, a thin fleece cover, some duct tape, some tin foil and a lighter. I had a thermal farmer style jacket and two tracksuits on. I kind of cheated though as i made mince and tatties before i left but heated them up with your hobo style cook in the tin foil. My night went well although my only thing that could complain about was my feat were freezing when i woke up at 6;30am. Next time I'll put on long socks instead of the small trainer socks i had on. The temperature here in Scotland went down to 5 degrees Celsius during the night and the app said it feels like 4 degrees but it wasn't to bad. I really enjoyed myself, in fact it was outstanding AF. I tuned my phone off and watched the stars and fire most of the night until i fell asleep. Its amazing how much your hearing seems magnified when your all alone in the woods surrounded by nature. I've been watching channels similar to yours for a good while now and always wanted to give it a try but watching your many improvised shelters the last we while has inspired me to bite the built and give it a go before the cold weather sets in. I'll be doing it more often from now on for sure and i think next summer I'll even take the kids with me when it's a bit warmer. Keep the videos up pal, there great to watch.
Not to be rude sir, however I personally feel many TH-cam personalities, are just here for the money and do whatever makes them "KNOWN" you sir,are made of different tough stuff, and I more than appreciate what you do.You DON'T HAVE TO show us, your talents,to survive,(for free,I might add) yet you do, PLEASE UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH YOU ARE VALUED FOR ALL YOUR WONDERFUL SERVICES, and never leave the people willing to learn and who can grow with your guidance and help, sir
First, we had Nick at Nite, now it's Sundays With Shawn. Best part of my weekend. This is what needs to be on TV, not crap like Real Dancing Housewives of Kardashians, or whatever it's called. Informative, entertaining and very easy on the eyes. Keep it up Corporal, outstanding as always.
The Old School adventures never get old. You have made me break out my surpluses TA50. I stumbled across a surplus shop as a mustang 2LT and got a set of the old H-suspenders. Best damn rig I ever had. I follow your challenges when I can. Learn and laugh from my failures. Thanks for the videos. Keep ‘em coming…
Good job Corporal Kelly.I'm stuck in a Veterans Home due to a bad fall.I enjoy watching your videos as they're no nonsense and practical.Videos are the closest I'll get to outdoors .Stuck in a wheel chair.
So I went back to the build on the side of cliff ( which is a great video and build) to remember what you talked about around the camp fire. What you said is all true. The other tubers on “ bush craft” don’t do anything close to what you do. I have learned so much from watching you and you have a natural way of instruction that can be applied to anyone. I understand how you feel and I wish I could change it. Thank you for sharing your talents and I look forward to your videos every week.
Outstanding AF. Don't let the lazy people "bushcrafters/survivalist " get to you. You work so dang hard for the content you produce/provide. Keep doing what you do. F the rest.
I agree. Anyone can see how hard that he works in the video, building this stuff, but that's only half the story. A friend of mine has a TH-cam channel on beauty products, and I know just how hard she works at editing her videos. It probably takes twice as long to edit the videos, as it does to build his shelters.
Don’t be disheartened, your content showing what basics you need, how to tie knots, and fabricate field shelters has raised my confidence that I’d be able to construct and survive an overnight or two if needed, however no bacon in my get home bag, but two days of life boat rations.
I count on your weekly editions. Do everything you do. It is all welcomed, entertaining and educational.Because of you I have started to buy my own gear. It would be so cool to take your courses some day.
Pretty much the only way I go camping anymore. Myself and one or two of my sons usually, but last two times hit the bank and had all four. Had a poncho shelter, couple of small tarps, and my oldest two have skin shelters they have constructed from last years deer skins. Good times.
Thank you very much for another great video, Corporal! Watching your video vile eating a good dinner makes the weekend complete and outstanding! After a car accident I became paralyzed from my waist down, but after watching your videos and learning from you I have taken my Polaris forester 550 into the wilderness almost every weekend since April for the first time since 2009. I thank you so much for teaching me ways to be a proud and happy bushcrafter again. Now on wheels. Thank you sir!
Thanks Shawn, a nice video showing how you can get the most out of a minimized survival kit. Simplicity and economy of means to respond with solvency to unforeseen situations, typical in times of emergency. Once again, thank you for your expertise and dedication to the channel. We look forward to the next video. 👍😉
Bro I gotta tell ya... I've always played "make a pretty firewood pile before lighting it" for like, ever! For the past 2 yrs now, I do exactly what you do and it's frigging awesome! LOL! The absolute quickest and most efficient way to get a nice pile of coals whether it's for a quick meal or to get the big stuff lit. Another awesome AF vid Shawn! Ty!
I didn't comment on the cliff side video a month back but will do it here. This has been the only channel that I will religiously watch, whether its right when it drops or maybe a day late. These videos are time well spent both educationally and in terms of pure entertainment. It kind of baffles me that people like to bash others when all they are doing is trying to teach in an entertaining way. I don't think there's been a video of yours that I didn't like from the time I started watching your channel. Looking forward to the colder weather, because that weather is my favorite to camp in and would love to learn some new ways to enjoy nature. Thanks Corporal, outstanding AF.
Also forgot to say that watching another channel about the 4Runner would be really cool. While I don't have a larger vehicle like that to go overlanding in, I plan to get one eventually. If you did something like that it would definitely give me ideas for the future.
Somewhere in the numerous moves some of the old gear disappeared. I'd like to find that old butt pack, to heavy now for the web belts I own. Makes me miss the " old days " , a bit. Good show Corporal Kelly. As always, Sundays after church.
Timber hitch, clove hitch, bowline, trucker's hitch and more. Wow, reminiscing my boy scout days. I'm enjoying your videos. Greetings from the Philippines!
Great video as always! I know your tweaking things and I hope you are still enjoying all the effort your putting in. I’m relatively new to your channel (maybe a year or so) but I’m hooked. I’ll be tuning in no matter what your doing. The addition of your overlanding type vids are great!!! Keep up the great work Corp! Thank You for your service and thank you for your channel!
Professional indoorsman here and I gotta say, your videos inspired me to try this 'camping' thing and I've never been more happy with something I chose to do on whim. Going to try and teach the little ones when they're big enough and have "Corporal's Corner classes", thanks for the quality content as always man. Can't wait for the next one!
Brings back some old boot camp memories. I never had to make my rack of the mornings because I used my poncho liner as a blanket and slept on top of the old itchy wool blanket.
@@mzinns I was the only one doing it for the first few weeks of boot camp. A recruiter told me about it the day I shipped out, only about 6 other people started doing it and of course my rack mate didn't so we had to fix his rack every morning instead of hiding in the back talking shit.

Funny you mentioned off-roading survival as a neglected thing. My wife and I are just getting into backroad/off-road camping and she asked what happens if we breakdown or get hurt. I told her that we’d employ outdoor skills and calmly work through the deal. Being stranded isn’t the end of the world; being unprepared is…
Great to see you rocking the old school gear, Brother! Hardcore with just the trash bag, I used the GI foam sleep pad this weekend and it wasn't too comfortable. Good times!
I always learn something from ya brother. It may seem like a small thing but digging out that hole in the stream so ya could get a full cup to boil was excellent info for a novice like myself. Thank you!
Garden cleared, pool closed for the season, cleaned up waiting patiently for corporals corner. Love your videos every Sunday. You mentioned the scandi grind on your knife. I have one too and love it. I have a request: around a fire some night could you do a demonstration on sharpening the scandi grind? I have a real hard time with it. I’m sure there’s a better technique Thx
You managed to add in some bacon 🥓! I purchased a poncho for emergency uses and rainy days. This Sunday you brought sunshine and a reminder to everyone as to how simple and effective a poncho is. Uncomfortable camping for sure. It does suck! Coffee time. Have a great week Shawn.✌️🇨🇦
Another OUTSTANDING video CPL!!!! I loved the old military issue videos. I still have my "H" harness and "Ass pack" I was issued in 1985. It served me well for 20yrs. and has been in continued service every time I hit the woods. Nothing like sleeping in a poncho hooch with your poncho liner. That's how I camp. Keep'em coming CPL. RANGERS LEAD THE WAY 🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Corporals corner thank you for everything you do and everything you show us all.. my kids and my wife love getting out and living in the woods.. it’s the best of life..
Good one. I still have that old kit handy. My only criticism? These older bones and titanium knees would find that ground a tad hard. Not to mention getting up and down. Nevertheless, good one! All that stuff is easily kept in a vehicle at all times.
I enjoy your military surplus outings. I.use a lot of military surplus equipment which is tough however heavy to carry. I started years ago using as a kid using stuff from dad ww2 and then using in the army when I got a little older. The boar stew look a lot better then C rations.
A couple of my friends and brothers watch your videos religiously. For the simple fact that you help explain. You've helped taught us how to be more efficient out in the field when we go bivouacing.
Just got back from a solo overnight here in Maine. Nights are getting cold here too brother. Got back in time to see yet another outstanding video. Keep up the great work Corporal. Thanks.
I just discovered you last night stay up for 4 hours watching I can’t stop and now all I wanna do is go out and camp and cook thank you for this I really needed it, can help with my mental health
Good video, I miss the 30 min videos tho.... An idea for a video. Could you bury a survival cache and go in a year and use it? I would like to see the approach of corporals corner in that
gotta love the old school gear,,love the way you introduce such things to people who wouldnt see it or use it in any other way ,,and give them some training and non tech explaination ,,what a way to get it done marine,,
Another great video..and sleeping on the ground does suck..lol. My girl asked me about getting the Kelly addition pks knife for her brothers birthday and was sad to hear they sold out. If 100 sold in 17 minutes..then you need to drop like 10000 next time.... ok..maybe 1000 is more realistic. Catch ya next time.
I always see the hoods on the ponchos tied off and I have always wondered when I seen it was wether or not it could be left untied and hanging on the inside for water collection mist or dew frost even if your in an area with abundant water you could use it to put things you might need flashlights and stuff........I haven't ever seen anyone utilize the hood on the poncho as anything more than another tie out point
I like the mix of useable mil surplus gear and old school survivalism with modern Bushcraft and occasionally some primitive tech. So many possibilities if you train yourself not to rely on just one system but incorporate several.
The end of this video felt like a good bye. The way you packed everything up and then looked around as you walked away felt like you were saying goodbye one last time. I truly hope that's not the case. I, and I'm sure a lot of other people, look forward to these Sunday videos. Your channel is the only one that I keep up on religiously. Even going back regularly to watch your old builds.
I love your content. I have adopted your quick deploy ridgeline technique, and it has improved my tarp setups a lot. You also inspired me to get right with my knit raft. Do thank you Sir!
Been watching you for over a year close to two years , builds are always awesome learnt a lot from you , one of my favourite bushcraft channels amongst a cuple of uk channels , keep up with the good work Scott from the uk 👍
Semper Fi Devil Dog! Any thoughts about doing the Pros and Cons of a KBar? I was in 84-88. Old School. Know replaced but by what? How about Old School VS New School? Thank You for the Videos!
People always with the "should've done this, should've done that"... F that! You do what makes you happy and that, in turn, makes the vast majority of us happy when we watch. Thanks!
I’ve spent many an hour browsing around Smoky Mountain Knife Works, and it would be extremely cool to meet you and Mr. Canterbury. Unfortunately, I’ve got a ticket to once again ride the chemo train. I’ll be sharing as always. Carpe Diem 🤙
Excellent shawn, short, sweet and to the point. Love the minimal gear camping. Its great to go out with bare bones equipment and still be warm dry and comfortable. Well done bud, sunday is complete , Thank you .
@@JC-cm9bn this is his first video I’ve missed since I’ve subscribed lol I have email notifications but for some reason I didn’t get it this time. I always do. I ended up searching for his channel and seeing the new video was up. It sucks.
Outstanding video, the 5 c’s a must have in every pack!!! Can’t wait till winter time and hopefully we see some dugout shelter, always seem to be viewed more🤔. Keep up the great work corporal .
Shawn, I just wanted to add to my earlier comment. I've learned quite a lot from you since finding you channel. Some things you do and instruct on are different than others show, but I find yours are the easiest and work the best. As I said, I've learned a lot and have incorporated a lot of your ideas into my own pack. And as you say, I need to quit making excuses and get out and do more overnighters. I have room on my property to get out whenever I want, so I just need to do it !!! Thank you for all the instruction you have passed along, and like I always tell you, please keep up the good work.
Legit question; not criticism: Why do you create a fire ring but overlap your tender over the stones? Is that an intentional goal or is it just something that doesn't matter? Also, I (for one; referring to the cliff video) appreciate different content. Your regular content teaches me and keeps me interested; something new would be a plus. In fact, some of my field gear has been inspired by your channel and recommendations. Coming from a Staff Sergeant with 22 years (still serving), don't worry about what the naysayers say; the phrase "haters gonna hate" comes to mind. As far as algorithms go, all creators seem to have issues with them. I have always gotten notifications for your videos and haven't missed one in over two years, since I subbed. That should be enough for this novel (LOL). I will cut it "short" (too late for that) ..... Just know, there are those that would leave quietly, if you were doing wrong. Those of us that feel that way are still here because of our appreciation for what you do and the knowledge you pass on.
Finally, Finally, Finally, things are slowing down some for me now that temperatures are cooling off. Finally, I can catch Corporal's Corner. If only I can get a rainy weekend to watch all I have missed.
You can't beat the old bush tv. Hope you are well corp and I HAVE learnt so much from your videos. Thank you Sir! I have a butt bag that my Pa had in the Vietnam War and yes, it goes on me every time that I go bush. Love it. His battalion were the first Aussies there. God rest his soul!
I think I’ve always carried a tarp & rope in my vehicle. Have used it for a few “day trips” that turned into overnighted!! Never leave home without it. I just need to get better w/ the knots… 👊🏻

Me too
Outstanding video as usual. And I loved the Romancing The Stone campfire reference.
I would like to see the approach of corporals corner in that
As often as I'm in a bad way your videos inspire me to do better and I thank you greatly for your weekly videos.
H harness was the way to go. Very comfortable
gotta love the old school gear,,love the way you introduce such things to people who wouldnt see it or use it in any other way ,,and give them some training and non tech explaination ,,what a way to get it done marine,,
Another great video..and sleeping on the ground does suck..lol. My girl asked me about getting the Kelly addition pks knife for her brothers birthday and was sad to hear they sold out. If 100 sold in 17 minutes..then you need to drop like 10000 next time.... ok..maybe 1000 is more realistic. Catch ya next time.
Your vids are always inspiring. Hope to see some Overland camping.
Im actually thinking of putting together a small kit in my truck for emergencies.
"That's what I call a campfire"... Romancing the stone you're awesome AF Corporal keep those videos coming
Nice change up great video bud
I have learned several things from watching your videos that could possibly save my life one day. For that I thank you.
I always see the hoods on the ponchos tied off and I have always wondered when I seen it was wether or not it could be left untied and hanging on the inside for water collection mist or dew frost even if your in an area with abundant water you could use it to put things you might need flashlights and stuff........I haven't ever seen anyone utilize the hood on the poncho as anything more than another tie out point
make a video on it so we can see it in action
I like the mix of useable mil surplus gear and old school survivalism with modern Bushcraft and occasionally some primitive tech. So many possibilities if you train yourself not to rely on just one system but incorporate several.
The end of this video felt like a good bye. The way you packed everything up and then looked around as you walked away felt like you were saying goodbye one last time. I truly hope that's not the case. I, and I'm sure a lot of other people, look forward to these Sunday videos. Your channel is the only one that I keep up on religiously. Even going back regularly to watch your old builds.
he ain't leavin'....
and you believe this........
@@recall5811 I don’t believe that for a second. You’re Corporal AF....You ain’t giving up!!!
I love your content. I have adopted your quick deploy ridgeline technique, and it has improved my tarp setups a lot. You also inspired me to get right with my knit raft. Do thank you Sir!
Love these primitive builds on minimal gear, though Im sure your back would disagree lol
Been watching you for over a year close to two years , builds are always awesome learnt a lot from you , one of my favourite bushcraft channels amongst a cuple of uk channels , keep up with the good work
Scott from the uk 👍
Semper Fi Devil Dog! Any thoughts about doing the Pros and Cons of a KBar? I was in 84-88. Old School. Know replaced but by what? How about Old School VS New School? Thank You for the Videos!
Thanks for another great video. So much of your videos are "well that makes sense". Thanks for pointing out the common sense that many of us miss.
Gotta ask, if your sleep sucked why didn't you fill the drum liner with all the fallen leaves? Noisy as F, but insulating.
Thank you for making these instructional videos. I am learning a lot. I look forward to your videos every week.
Thank you sir may I have another
Excellent minimal emergency kit. Thankyou so much for your vids. You're the Best. So appreciate your help! 🖖
Ya just can’t beat “back to basics”. I chuckled a bit when ya walked away carrying your staff like a rifle
Your channel inspires creativity in camping
15:30 Up here in Fairbanks AK we just got about a foot of snow so now it's almost snow fort time. Outstanding video cprl keep up the good work!
Fuck TH-cam. I didn’t get the notification that the video was up. Been waiting for it all week.
Sign up for direct email notifications, I did and never miss Corporal Kelley's videos 👍
@@JC-cm9bn this is his first video I’ve missed since I’ve subscribed lol I have email notifications but for some reason I didn’t get it this time. I always do. I ended up searching for his channel and seeing the new video was up. It sucks.
I hope all is well on the homefront, always enjoy watching your videos. Reminds me of my Boyscout days.
Knot craft is a lost art.
I wish I could like this video each time I watch it. I am making a similar kit for day hikes, hunting, and fishing.
Loved the Return of the Living Dead reference, that was one of my favorite movies growing up!
That pack-up and walk-off seemed ominous.
Thanks for everything corporal Kelly. Your content is valuable and appreciated.
Something truly satisfying watching Old School
Loved the big builds, but I’m always a fan of the skills and systems. Thank you Corporal.
