I think there should be a way to make crude knife out hitting two stones together. It needs quite some time to build, it doesn’t hold long at all and breaks instantly when defending with it. But it can make that first incision.

I think the bedroll trick has never bothered me because it gives such a limited, immediately-nearby and often confusing view that it's not a bad approximation of feeling around with your hands.
I really wish they'd let you prep pies ahead of time instead of forcing you to do it with an unused skillet over a burning fire. Having multiple unbaked ready ahead of time would be good. :/
42:22 Interesting note: clocks like this would not in fact be good for judging when the geomagnetic storm hit. Assuming they were functional at the time it happened (which isn't even a certainty if the house was abandoned long before the silent apocalypse), the clocks would still come to life and resume ticking every time an aurora happened, meaning the exact time of the apocalypse would be lost from their face with the first aurora.
I think on my current run I might move my main base from Camp Office to Hunting Lodge in BR. Reason being that I have never seen anybody base there before and I don't have a moose spawn in ML but I do have a moose spawn in FM and BR. The one in BR is right in front of the Hunting Lodge front door. Plus in BR there is also a forge, workbench in the Hunting Lodge basement, and a 6 top stove. The only downside is to get to the other regions like Blackrock, TWM, and DP is quite a bit longer.

I'm currently in something of an LD lull, having had my previous Interloper game of 300 days lost to the updates. I've bought the DLC and explored a little bit - but I can't bring myself to invest in a new loper start just now... I don't know what it is but this happened before and I ended up taking a year off the game... Anyone else find this? In the meantime, I still love watching these videos!
Same. I'd recommend a quick challenge run like whiteout, which if I'm not mistaken has some new items added in. That might get you interested enough, but if not, no worries!
Me too, I lost my first successful interloper run with the big update, I was fully equipped with animal clothing, I had been to the gold mine and ash canyon, and it was reseted. I made a new run after the update but it's not the same feeling, I used a lot of backup saves to make it to the same point.
Zaknafein. In early interlooper , if you, scare away a Wolf with a stone that has caught a rabbit, you can still harvest that rabbit,by hand. Because the wolf has broken the skin of the rabbit. and that works on deere to. So there is a way to harvest whitout tools, in early Interlooper, I was a bit concerned about this myself, after the update. Hope you find this usefull. love you,re vids and content, by the way :) I,ve learned a lot from watching them.
On lower difficulties, Blackrock tends to have more car batteries because of the ammunition workbench. I haven't paid much attention to it on interloper, so I'm not sure if it's similar.
Amazing series as always Zak. I forgot to mention, the wind sound bug you're reporting is caused by having the "Pain" affliction I believe. It makes the wind noises kind of distorted :)

When you mentioned the pies will smell as they are meat pies, I had just checked the wiki under 'Scent': "Cooked food recipes that used animal meat (such as stews or pies) will not produce scent". This makes me think Hinterland have changed it so pies no longer smell. Historically, when dropping a decoy with '3', the pies would drop. I've not checked it but I'm guessing they should no longer be dropped. Doesn't make sense that if the meat is in the pie it stops smelling but again, dropping it on the ground wouldn't stop it smelling either so... "It's only a game". If meat pies and stews no longer contribute to scent thats a bit of a game changer. Really enjoying the play-through. I also managed to get Melonloader sorted and get scurvy enabled in my run so thank you for that also.
Glad you got scurvy, sorted (a sentence I never thought I'd say haha). Clicking 3 still drop pies and they do still smell so wiki is wrong then. You will see this in Part 41 :)
Ah, that was a great episode. I had to watch the navigating the farmhouse in the dark twice, it was so funny. I have an idea for a challenge if there's a mod available......the endless aurora.
The tool required harvesting is kinda meh. IRL you can absolutely skin a rabbit without a knife. It's not pleasant but it's certainly doable. Maybe be like all the other survival games and let you craft a sharp stone early game? Very low durability, very inefficient, but man. Having to find a hacksaw before you starve to death is kinda rough. IMO.

Think you're on to something about the motion sickness, i really hope the devs have that in mind when designing these things. Motion Sickness can ruin a game 100% for people suffering from it.
I'm not a huge fan of not being able to use bare hands to harvest at first, but it's not a big deal. What I wish they would change is have it so the new harvest animation only happen on the first cut, I'm already kinda sick of seeing the wobbly camera animation every single time you harvest a piece of meat, it's a bit nausea inducing to be honest

Hab gestern dank deinem Guide die Challenge versucht und bin natürlich kläglich gescheitert, aber als ich im Anschluss einen neuen Survival Run starten wollte sah ich, dass ich dennoch das Abzeichen für den Darkwalker bekommen habe. Ist das berechtigt ? xD Alles was ich tat, war in BL zu starten wie du es sagtest, ich rannte wie ein Huhn, dass man den Kopf abgeschlagen hatte, zu den Feuern. Kam auf insgesamt 3 Seiten. In Milton zog ich mir eine Verstauchung zu, war unterkühlt und lag mich in aller Verzweiflung auf einen Felsvorsprung beim Kletterseil hin und erfror. Ist das Abzeichen berechtigt oder hab ich da einen neues "Feature" im Spiel entdeckt...? Und wieder ein tolles Video, danke dir!

BTW, I don't think you need to worry about scurvy because this run started before it was added. OTOH, my current run started after scurvy was added. I struggled for a while and then discovered that fish have a lot of vitamin C for some reason. Hinterland realized that fishing was completely unnecessary and modified the game.

Yesterday a moose spawned at trappers. I go in trappers to drop some gear, go outside, the moose turns into a bear, wtf. I go in trappers to get some fire. Go outside, no moose, no bear. I go round towards bear cave, noise behind me. Bear AND moose spawned in behind me. I kill the bear, cook the bear. Next day I go outside, nothing there. I look up the hill, no Barry's, I turn round, the moose AND 3 deer have spawned in. It's broke ML, it takes ages for predators to spawn and they don't spawn unless I look away. Got loads of food though. Custom stalker, no rifle, no revolver
I'm just speaking for myself as a german: we use the french pronounciation because it is a french originating word. And regarding Zak I guess it could be similar because he lives in a north european/scandinavian country.
Hey Zak, I really like your videos and probably watched most of them. That being said, I think you could improve your video quality a lot in those dark segments. Of course as a player myself, I don't want you to waste lantern fuel or matches on it when you can navigate these areas in very dark conditions or even completely blind with the placement trick. It is still a bad viewing experience despite being more immersive. Maybe you could change the saturation in the editing process sometimes? Or something else? I'm not a video editing guy. ❤
I've noticed it especially in the last video of the series, where you were like 5 min+ in complete darkness. Commenting this here to increase the chances of you seeing it, since it's a new upload ;)
Hi. As I have stated many times before, I generally always have the lantern out so viewers can see, so I prioritize viewer experience over ingame strategy. I dont recall doing much in darkness other than talking or moving to beds, though its possible you are viewing with darker settings than I am. The recordings are actually 10% brighter than the game, meaning the viewer sees more than I do (though this is probably reduced by TH-cam compression). I did add night vision in my Eternal Darkness video, and in Episode 4 (I think) I added a note that generally I avoid darkness for viewer experience. Hope it helps. I do my best. I prefer not brightening i post in this particular series. I try to minimize darkness but it cant always be done. Thank you for watching the series :)

I once found the battery right next to the transmitter on Signal Hill, the door kinda blocks you from seeing it once it‘s open :)

I just tried if I can harvest a rabbit who got caught by a wolve without any equipment. It is possible, as the wolve ripped open the rabbit.
