Excellent analysis. I love the Hellion, it’s a solid upgraded light category vehicle in bright colors. I think one important feature is the size. A compact vehicle is easier to handle in narrow spots and crowded spawning.
Appreciate a lot the durability and invincibility segments. The Mad Norma (Zedbuster) is my way to go. Also, thanks for leaving clear how the tool kits work!
Although I have a lot of hours in this game, I learn something new every time I watch your videos. I always use the bandito for the trunk capacity, and started using the impaler for moving around, after I saw your video about killing blood ferals. Awesome job, as always!! 💯😎
As always very good video, with many valuable insides, however there are few things to reflect over, as per game files: - each vehicle has also "Ignition timer" - time it takes to start the engine. It ranges from 0.7 to 1.8s - as long as one park each time as RvidD recommends then don't need to worry about it, but if not or have no such option, better to keep this variable in mind. - vehicles health zones - health pools varies between different model, left front door (driver) are often more resistant than rest e.g. Big Boss has engine health pool of 600 and left doors 300, "Brogans" have 200 for engine and 150 for front doors. - vehicle Repair Kits replenish vehicle health (duh?) - basic restore 800, Advanced 1600 + 400 (just for engine) = Advanced RK is up to 2.5 better than Basic RK, especially if used on destroyed vehicles with big enough engine health pools*. Worth to also remind Advanced RK is applied quicker = 1.25s, Regular/Basic = 6.6s (same as Gas Can). Disclaimer: - Numeric values provided are base values - possibly all or none of those are scaled by difficulty (e.g. thanks to this video I now know basic fuel tank and gas can capacities on LZ are multiplied by factor of 0.55). - The fact there are some values in games files and are named in obvious way (e.g. "EngineHealth") do not mean all of those are used. Some may be part of some removed concept mechanic. *Excluding Trail beast, Hellion, Pyrohawk (all 300), all other upgraded |vehicles I checked has Engine health over 400 + Police Cruiser (exactly 400).
Unless something has changed in the last update, I feel like its worth mentioning that zombies can clip inside vehicles if you're moving fast enough. In the vid, you said the engine would never take damage from reversing over zoms, but if you're reversing too fast, they can clip through the trunk. If they die close enough to the front, like around the front seats, the engine will take damage. Its mostly a problem with short vehicles trying to reverse over ferals, but that sudden unexpected engine damage can be a killer on Lethal. Also nice to see that my fav vehicle, the Max, is better than expected in pretty much everything. I use a mod that gives it ~9 trunk slots so its pretty much the perfect vehicle for me. The one thing that bothers me though, is that the upgraded Norma still starts slow. Like, we did a complete engine overhaul, and all that body work, but somehow forgot to upgrade the starter.
For me the issue with exploding cars in LZ, especially when backing into ferals, was windowed mode, which was the default on all of my gaming laptops for some reason. It was a true nightmare that would make playing on anything other than dread zone impossible due to near-instantly exploding vehicles. It also had other issues too, like an input lag. Going back to full screen fixed all those issues. Now as soon as the @ss end of the car makes contact with zombies, they just fly whichever way. And it is impossible for me to run over ferals at full speed as they dodge out of the way, so they end up trapped under the rear axle and grinded into fertilizer at slow speed reversal. That being said, I still cannot run over those freaks in Brogan and the van. I just end up driving over them without any damage to the ferals or the car, which makes those vehicles useless to me.
@@WhiteFoamDispenser Its more so when you're going slow reverse to get close to them, then you lay on the gas to run them over. There's a chance they clip through the trunk and die somewhere around the middle of the car. If they're close enough to the front, the engine will take damage. Which is why I notice it more on the shorter vehicles like the Road Racer and the Jeep variants.
I was thinking of about the vehicles some couple of weeks back and for my suprise there wasn't any and you delivered. Thanks for all the effort. I'm glad the the trail best even with its atrocious security still enter in the top 5. I love that jeep.
This list is insane! awesome work. My go to is used to be the Vandito for scavenging runs or Viking for getting around the map due to its off-road capabilities :) but your hands down correct when it comes to harder difficulty spikes become very important.
This video was absolutely excellent! The information was great, and the sheer amount of effort that went into making it is staggering and inspiring! Even me with 1k hours learnt some new things. I didn’t know you could repair Impaler from the hood! That kicks arse! And that vehicle was vital to my very first Lethal win. I didn’t know the Kaiser wasn’t that good. I’m sad to leave it behind, but it’s for the best. I did know about some vehicles being harder to climb than others - and I learnt the hard way in my first few lethal runs. Lost some good survivors, and I’ll never be able to rank the Trail Beast that high because of it.
Brilliant video! Lots of data for those who want it but explained in simple terms too. I have been relying on the impaler a lot but hoping to use something with more trunk space, so I'm glad to see the vandito ranked so high, might switch to that!
Generally opted for the Vandito or Smashwagon based on reddit, etc., but it's nice to see some actual testing behind it. Might need to throw in an Impaler if I get to Lethal. (currently working on nightmare)
Wanna give a huge thanks to you Rvid for the amazing guides. Yesterday I 100%ed SOD2 on Xbox after 12d of playtime! Your guides were instrumental in getting there 😁 When SOD3 comes out you best believe I'll be here waiting for the goat to make the best guides again 🐐
Leant new things! Love your stuff very insightful!!🎉❤ I find it humorous that my 4 carry over vehicles ( upgraded)are all in the top 4. I wonder what happened to that purple megalodon vehicle 😢
@@nitronome I wouldn't have made it if the fuel efficiency results came out just as what we assumed. But the results were surprising. So I wanted to show everyone the results. Then I tested durability. It was even more surprising. Finally tested speed and it was shocking.
I recently started this game and am glad my choice of the Smashwagon was as good as it is, though I've never seen most of these more unique options like the Impaler. Something I missed seeing in this video was some description of maneuverability variations between classes, since while I love the cargo space of the Vandito it has terribly tuned turning and often spins out on the smallest of turns at lower speeds. It makes it more of a struggle to drive and less enjoyable.
I’d love to know if anyone else has experienced this. I used to be all about the Wichita ES. I think it has a bug, where backing over a feral, especially off road, has a chance to have the feral go under the car and insta kill the vehicle. And I mean instant explosion. Not a 15 second count down. The first time I played Lethal, I got my beloved Witchita. After banging it up some, I put enough repair kits to make it shiny and new. Then, backing out of the driveway, a blood feral ran up behind me, the car bounced on him and exploded, killing my driver instantly. I almost quit playing the difficulty, because I just thought that they made backing over ferals instantly lethal. I did some testing, and I’ve now had it happen 3-4 times. I won’t upgrade the miragra anymore.
I was going to say even before the video started that the vandito is the way to go, it's my go to for any playthrough, on my last one though, couldn't find a van, so I opted for the smashwagon and was thoroughly pleased with that one as well.
Im pretty sure someone already mentioned this but the black pilato cr holds 9 also. Many tough to mount vehicles can be easily mounted by jumping straight up then holding forward. While scientifically speaking, your facts are unassailable there are many vehicles I like or dislike for various reasons which do not match with the facts shared but thats going to be cool. To each their own, and everyones opinion, etc. Thank you for this video! It will certainly change my choices in some cases.
Yes. Pilato CR has 9 slots. I showed it in the tables! Didn't list it in the top 3 since I already showed its upgraded vehicle (Smashwagon) in the 2nd. Ambulance can be climbed without giving directional input and then giving direction. I climbed one in the video too. But how practical is that in an emergency? Impossible. And Trail Beast can't even be climbed like that. It has a very specific climbing spot near its engine and it is difficult even when doing calmly. I like Road Mangler too! Sometimes feelings over facts. But if we only look at the facts, it is the worst upgraded vehicle
Very nice. The only thing I miss here when it comes to the verdict is a higher emphasis on off-roadability and handling for two reasons: The vehicles with a plow are horrible at offroading, but the Utility Truck takes the cake. It gets stuck on everything. Recommending it just because you can park with the driver's door inaccessible is almost irresponsible. It also handles very poorly, just like the Military Truck and the non-upgraded vans. One of the most useful moves you can do in your car when zombies latches on to the hood or doors is to back up, gain some speed and then do a reverse powerslide with it. This will result in the zombies being thrown off, dying... unless your car is too slow. Even the Miragra can do this, but you have to reverse for a looong time before you can with the Utility Truck.
The MeatWagon and it's VERY OP Perk, I feel should have been touched on. Although useless in the Harder Difficulties. The Distraction that dropping the Meat provides in "Dread Zone" or lower is one of a kind. 🤙
Honestly every play though I always love to go for a trail beast to start because it’s suspension is soo good and definitely that fuel efficiency but also it’s inventory is very descent and it’s very light
Smashwagon is my favorite, because not only it looks dope, but it also has 4 doors, rarely needed but when needed its a life saver. Its handling is surprisingly good, compared to any similar sized vehicle, fantastic fuel efficiency, whats not to love!! Only complain I have is the difficulty to get on top of it.
this was super helpful, so in all the cars I currently have e 0 are useful and only big boss has decent storage, need to change my roster for cars now , thanksss
While it is incredibly niche, You should give the Big Boss an honorable mention. It is the only vehicle that seats 6, so if you have four people in your game you can still have a Follower and still accommodate a mission NPC.
This has got to be the most thorough and complete SoD2 vehicle video i have ever seen or will ever see well done and thank you for all the hard work gathering, comparing, and collating all this data RvidD. That presentation was incredible and with no wasted time, amazing. And thanks also to Quincy for the great narration. Well done, both of you A++
I planned add "Special Features" chapter (sirens, surveying ability and off-roading) But the script got too big for a vehicle ranking video. Siren is not an apocalyptic feature, so ignored it. Since both off roaders got into the top ranking, I explained their capabilities when they are mentioned. And I advised not to upgrade survey car because of the loss of surveying ability.
Zedbuster is my favorite vehicle. I think it's the most well rounded. decent on gas, good looting space, plenty of room for multiplayer or npcs, kills ferals (of course that last part needs an experieced driver to use it efficiently). Another reason I love it, requires more skill over the impaler. Not that using the impaler is wrong, I just like that lil bit of challenge to compensate for all the pros I guess.
I'm guessing News Van, Mad Norman and Megalodon vehicles aren't included because they're basically reskins, but a couple of the other reskins/paintjob vehicles are on the list so I'm ever so slightly confused.
You forgot a couple of VERY important categories for vehicles. First is start-up time. You only mentioned that the Norma is slow to start-up. You didn't mention that the Zedbuster is also a slow starter. Various vehicles seem to have different startup times, which can be extremely important if you're trying to bug-out. Another category is handling. Four types of handling should have been examined. Going around a corner while accelerating, going around a corner at full speed, and going around a corner while using the hand-brake. The fourth type of handling is the spin to get rid of clinging zombies. Again, an important thing that was only mentioned on two vehicles. I know you didn't want to make the video too long, but some of these areas are where your discounted vehicles like the Road Mangler actually shine.
If i remember correctly you can get onto the ambulance & bloodmobile's roof, but the only place you can climb up is right behind the mirrors & its really finicky about how you do that.
MAD NORMA FTW!!! I been waiting for it to rotate back in a bounty mission for awhile.. I love the way they cant jump on hood & its drift & accel are P O I !!!! ~My #2 are the Ford Explorer types.. I have a special one with a death logo on the side. It's all black & probably the same as others but i like it... ~~The Upgraded Jeep is bad ass but no trunk space... So it's epic for afte ryou clear the map & you are farming for people etc.
Viking is also one of the worst vehicles when it comes to durability because the fuels tanks are exposed in this one, the zombies can easily latch onto the tanks and with only one or two hits on the tanks the vehicle will explode. I wish you mentioned this in your video.
@@StateofDecayScience I got my viking destroyed by ferals this way. Maybe it's a glitch but I doubt the devs are gonna fix that because update 38 is going to be the final update
I don't particularly care about efficiency but here's my take 1. Smashwagon is awful, it has weird handling much worse than the SUV baseline 2. Viking and Trailblazer doesn't make sense aesthetically, they're just bad. They're great in gameplay though. 3. Police Car/Kaiser is my favorite even though they're inefficient.
I hate to say this becuse the video is excellent and the research is well done, but you should have factored in "ease of access" because on a fresh lethal zone start the impaler is by far the easiest vehicle to get since you can radio it in. Getting to the point in lethal to craft or buy a heavy vehicle upgrade kid is a big investment. There are also vehicles you can get through bounties. I would assume you could go through an entire lethal zone without finding an SUV, but im not sure. I think with ease of aquiring included Impaler would be #1.
I planned to add a section about guaranteed ways to get vehicles, but the script already got too big, so just added those as texts at the end of the video.
I didn't test Megalodon and Mad Norma since they are obviously reskins. Even Trumbull 4x4 and Burninator have the same stats. So Megalodon and Mad Norma are 100% Mega Max and Zedbuster.
I noticed the Bloodmobile isn't on this list. Is it identical to the Ambulance? I have heard from somewhere that it actually has better fuel efficiency.
LOL! In my EPIC ICONIC mod "Beyond Lethal Overhaul" I removed zombies latching to engine - playing like that is way more fun! I also rebalanced all vehicles (trunk and fuel consumption), so you can actually choose between different vehicles as they all become viable and adequate for their tiers!
Yo Rvid 😄 it's been a while since the last time 😅 How've you been ? 😅 I know it's hard to make good content but never lose hope🙂 You will reach the Millions of subscibers ❤ Stay strong and never forget this few word " GOD LOVE YOU "❤
I know there's a lot of people who object, but I'm fine with your accent, and there are subtitles anyway. When you recruit someone to narrate your videos for you, it feels less personal. But I get the TH-cam numbers are more important than my feelings.
The reason I’m using native voiceovers is to get everyone to watch this video. I only do this when I’ve put a lot of effort into making it. Some viewers definitely stop watching when they hear an accent they don’t like. SOD2 has a very small player base right now, so I don’t want to lose even 1% of viewers for a video I spent months creating. SOD3 will have a big player base. So at that time, I won't mind losing even 10-20% viewers

Top content as usual, but what about sirens? Or I missed the part where it was taken into account
I planned add "Special Features" chapter (sirens, surveying ability and off-roading)
But the script got too big for a vehicle ranking video.
Siren is not an apocalyptic feature, so ignored it.
Since both off roaders got into the top ranking, I explained their capabilities when they are mentioned.
And I advised not to upgrade survey car because of the loss of surveying ability.
great effort
Zedbuster is my favorite vehicle. I think it's the most well rounded. decent on gas, good looting space, plenty of room for multiplayer or npcs, kills ferals (of course that last part needs an experieced driver to use it efficiently). Another reason I love it, requires more skill over the impaler. Not that using the impaler is wrong, I just like that lil bit of challenge to compensate for all the pros I guess.
The Green "street creep" paint job makes it insanely good!
@@StateofDecayScience
How do you get that variant? I've never been able to. Is it an exclusive radio option?
No, just a random upgrade
@@StateofDecayScience
Ok, I just haven't been blessed by the RNG gods yet.
I'm guessing News Van, Mad Norman and Megalodon vehicles aren't included because they're basically reskins, but a couple of the other reskins/paintjob vehicles are on the list so I'm ever so slightly confused.
I love that police cruiser and
Ret talons pilato suv
13:48 Quincy's voice felt shocking at this moment.
There is no quick starting vehicles. And slow starting doesn't matter for zedbuster
If i remember correctly you can get onto the ambulance & bloodmobile's roof, but the only place you can climb up is right behind the mirrors & its really finicky about how you do that.
You can always do that by jumping without directional input and then giving direction mid jump
Your videos are the best! Any chance to make that last spreadsheet avaiable for download? Thank you
Do you want a high res image or a pdf?
@@StateofDecayScience Whatever is easier for you..
@@MrLuizsaluti I just shared that in my discord server. Will you be able to join?
I really prefer RvidD narration
I think almost all of us do as well but i think RvidD likes to collaborate with friends sometimes also. 🤝
Same, and I'm not even English speaker. He shouldn't be shamed of his accent
Viking is also one of the worst vehicles when it comes to durability because the fuels tanks are exposed in this one, the zombies can easily latch onto the tanks and with only one or two hits on the tanks the vehicle will explode. I wish you mentioned this in your video.
Ferals can insta destroy viking, but I considered that a glitch, so didn't include that
@@StateofDecayScience I got my viking destroyed by ferals this way. Maybe it's a glitch but I doubt the devs are gonna fix that because update 38 is going to be the final update
You right. 100% chance that they will never fix it. I should have added that to the list of unsafe vehicles
The unexpected has happened!
@@StateofDecayScience Did they fix the bug in the final update?
You should have had mobility on the list too like the cargo vans have low mobility and then the Trumbull 4x4 would have high mobility
Won't that come under speed and maneuverability
I don't particularly care about efficiency but here's my take
1. Smashwagon is awful, it has weird handling much worse than the SUV baseline
Could you verify if Megalodon has the same stats as Mega Max?
I didn't test Megalodon and Mad Norma since they are obviously reskins.
Even Trumbull 4x4 and Burninator have the same stats. So Megalodon and Mad Norma are 100% Mega Max and Zedbuster.
Have some link or something to the
spreadsheet that u make?
I shared it in my Discord. Ping me there. If you can't, let me know. I will upload it somewhere else and link you
I noticed the Bloodmobile isn't on this list. Is it identical to the Ambulance? I have heard from somewhere that it actually has better fuel efficiency.
@@strangejune Are you sure you noticed?
Did I miss it? Is it called something different? I swear I didn't see it...
I did miss it! It has the same fuel efficiency. Thanks for the heads up!
It is the same vehicle.
Also
Mega Max = Megalodon,
Zedbuster = Mad Norma
Even Trumbull 4x4 = Burninator (minus fire)
Time to get rid of my Road Mangler.
What's the replacement?
Did they nerfed the spikes? Cause a normal feral just singlehandedly destroyed my Mad Norma
spikes on the front
If safety is not an issue and you have Vandito and Survey Car, what would be your 3rd choice of a vehicle?
Smashwagon would be 2nd best upgraded.
survery car would be one of the top non upgraded
Do the utility truck and Impaler take engine damage when driving over zeds?
@@natandelloye yes
@StateofDecayScience ok, thanks!
