- Recording of the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra.A Composition by Alfred Reed.(1944) Russian Christmas Music
1.Carol of the Little Russian Children
2.Antiphonal Chant
3.Village Song
4.Cathedral Chorus. - เพลง
Among other things, "Russian Christmas Music" shows what a master orchestrator Alfred Reed was. Everybody has a good part and all voices are used appropriately (definitely not just a matter of finding an available instrument to play at the desired pitch). And the result is something that gives me tingles just about every time I hear it.
One of my favorite pieces of band literature ever. I get chills every time I listen to it. I am so thankful I had the privilege to play such a beautiful piece.
I love any and every piece composed by Alfred Reed.
Ahh.. I am so glad I found this song. Brings back great memories. I played second horn and in one rehearsal the first horn and I blacked out from using too much air at the end... Good times. :D
the finale around the 11 minute mark is where it's at for me. Especially those building brass statements. This is a magnificent piece of music!
The russians must have a pretty epic christmas
IKR!!!
😂😂on god
My freshman year of high school. (2009) Oh good gracious... This was BY FAR the best.... BEST... piece we performed. Trumpet here, but every part was important.
i play first clarinet for this song and i really love this song....tokyo kosei's first clarinet is really epic. just don't know how they make such dark and clear dark tone.....
I played this masterwork as percussionist { Tubular bells} years ago was crying when we are done
The ending of this piece was hell for us flutes, but boy, was it worth it. My career in wind ensembles pretty much boils down to this piece.
there's something about playing saxophone on a piece like this that really makes you envy the power of the brass
I think besides the pieces being amazing by them-selves, Alfred Reed's works all seem to have these really really great endings, I mean really like the ending here sounds so cool!!! It's even better to play of course lol!
In Soviet Russia, song play you!
I play clarinet in my school band! This Christmas show we are playing this! It sounds amazing when it's all together!
I love this song. In my band we play this song every year and it's just so fun and it sounds so cool.
Senior Year of High School (2014-2015) :)
LOVE this piece!
As a timpanist, this piece is EPIC
Lol I play Alto sax for this and it is amazing even though I have so many measures of resting... I love Reed!
it's from the real tokyo kosei wind orchestra???
wooow - I can't believe it =) !!
I'm playing 3ed trumpet on this piece, I feel so much better hearing the 3ed trumpet crack at 14 minutes 😉
I played this on the clarinet 👌👌
Never knew there was a marching band arrangement until yesterday.
This piece is SO beautiful. Glad i was able to play this piece of history (and even happier that the best wind orchestra in the world did a recording)
Not the best wind "orchestra" in the world. Not even close. That would be the US Marine Band in Washington, DC.
I have played the Bells in this piece of music, a wonderful experience
One of our songs this year.
One of thr best pieces ive ever played on flute. Would love to play it agai
MY FAVORITE PART IS NO DOUBT AT ALL 13:53. I C A N T . THE LOW BRASS, THE TRUMPETS, THE HORNS, THE WOODWINDS COMING IN AFTER THE TRUMPET CLIMAX, NUT NUT NUT.
My high school band director (now long gone but dearly loved) adapted the Cathedral Chorus into an arrangement for our band that has been our signature closing for going on 50 years now. It still brings tears of great pride and joy to my eyes even 35 years later. He would always tell us, "one, two, PROUDLY play.." and we did.

so props to the soloist here for hangin on lol
The sound has so much body
I have not been able to play this song at all during my high school time being a senior at a school that is very new. and this song is beautiful so i wish i was able to play it. i am first alto sax
mmm dat english horn
and that french horn line at the end. As a horn player, this is what we live and breathe
Evan Aitken yassss! fellow french horn player! this was by far my favorite piece i played in high school. i still get tears at the end especially at the french horn licks!
I played EH on this in high school (20+ years ago) I still got the nervous butterflies right before the first solo. Beautiful!
This is our opener for marching band this year
What a beautiful piece of music this is. Loved playing it in high school every year during Christmas season. Although, I’m a little partial to having the alto sax play the English horn solos (our band didn’t have another double reed player for oboe) :)
HERESY!
Vodka uuuurday!
best clarinet ever
Our marching band will play these for our show this year :3
I play baritone
i can play this!!!!!!!!
😊👍
Beautiful, USA
I'm playing this in my school district's wind ensemble. We'll be playing it after our concert at NYSSMA in June. Why June?!
and again around the 14 minute mark. Just glorious!
Thumbs if you play first trumpet in this song.
I die at measure 236.
The horns at the end make me wet myself
technically, this song is easy technically....but interpretation really hard
Check out SCV87RCM here on TH-cam. It's actually a drum corps (1987 Santa Clara Vanguard) but I'd bet the marching band version would be something similar.
ホルンソロは並木博美です。
TRUMPETS FOR THE WIN - NISH
10:11
Is 13:53 the Grandioso?
+musichornfurby12 yeah, its the climax of the piece :D
That's the Cathedral Chorus. Such a majestic sound... :)
What the hell kind of marching band do you have???
Strongly disagree with tempos throughout.
I just melt at the part that starts at 6:48
that was my favorite part to play
i am a flute player
it's from the real tokyo kosei wind orchestra??
woooow - I can't believe it :)
